I also posted this question on the restaurant board, but figured most of the family types probably check in here....

We will be going to WDW in January with our 3 year old dd who doesn't eat much. How much is the average lunch or dinner meal for a child? Do you HAVE to buy a meal for a small child like that or can they eat off your plate?

If you choose a counter service or a sit down restaurant with a menu then you can certainly share meals. If you choose a buffet they charge for 3 and above so that may not be cost effective. Lots of times I travel alone with my 2 daughters and we get 1 adult meal, 1 childrens meal and an appetizer and that's plenty for 3 of us. When my youngest was 3 we were sometimes charged at the buffet and sometimes not. It seemed to depend on the amount she ate and the discretion of the server. We were always prepared to pay but it was a nice surprise when we didn't get charged for her even at 3. We are finding lots more healthy choices at WDW lately, fruits and cheeses at at least one counter service rest in every park. My girls love that you can get raw carrots or grapes instead of ff's at most counter service places. I have also been able to get a kids meal without the fries or drink as my girls don't drink soda and prefer water - just ask. Take a minute to study the menu, ask questions and then make your choices.

Have a great trip.
