Will I hate my OKW Studio on first floor?

I know that everyone here recommends trying to get a studio ont he second or third floors (last year we were on the second and had a great view of the golf course and some greenery) but this year we have actually requested to be in a first floor unit. We will be travelling with an infant and a toddler this time and I don't think we could handle dragging all the stuff that goes along with them up and down stairs (double stroller, extra luggage, baby gear, plus all of the everyday park stuff)- so will we still love it? What exactly is so bad about first floor units, besides the view? Thanks!

Our last 2 stays at OKW have been 1st floor units.
The lack of stairs is a definite plus.
Last October we were in a 2 br with a beautiful view from the patio of the golf course and pond.
Personally I'll take any view at OKW over the view from my cube at work :surfweb: !!!
Any day, any floor any view. :yay:

And I even have a golf coures view at work! :rolleyes1

What in the world could make any view at OKW so terrible?

I think you're right on target getting a 1st floor unit. We had a GREAT 1st floor unit at SSR this last trip (#1125 for anyone interested.)

You can park right outside your door; no hauling stuff up & down stairs. Easy!

I think a few posters have pointed out the legitimate downside to first floor units:

Sometimes more noise. (This was not our experience though.)

Sometimes more security issues. (Like my "escape artist" child would have an easier time getting away. Or, heaven forbid, but an intruder might find a first floor unit an easier target.)

Like I said above, though, it sounds like you have made a reasonable decision, and that in your circumstance the convenience factor of not having to "long haul" a ton of stuff (let alone exhausted or possibly even sleeping children!) would outweigh these other considerations.

There is NOTHING to hate about OKW.....no matter where your room is located. I think you made a wise choice .. much easier for you. Just remember that nothing is perfect and there are some things that may annoy you......don't let it bother you and if it really does, call the front desk and let them know so that they can fix it!!!!!!!!!!! Have a great time!!!!

One bedroom room 1614. Great veiw. Did not hear anyone upstairs but we were so tired. Just had to double check that both patio doors were locked before leaving for the day.

our first floor room in southpoint last year was the pits - literally a trash pit!

we had asked for a golf course view - the patio was literally surrounded by the golf course vegetation! only view was of the roots of the plants and a variety of unmentionable trash items apparently thrown off the balconies of the upper units or from the cart path of the golf course!

heard every bus using the s.p. turnaround, the golf course groomers, and thought it was raining every time the sprinklers went off!

but we are not letting it deter us from returning this year - told ms about last year's disappointments and have asked that they "make it up to us" or at least not make the same mistake twice :)

I would give anything just to be there right now! Any view! I just want some sunshine!
Rain, rain, go away and don't come back for about a year!!!! :lmao:
I'm melting!!!

We were at OKW in November in a first floor unit in bldg 23. We had a golf course/pond view and we really enjoyed it. We didn't have any major overgrowth in front of the balcony, and we never heard any noise from upper levels.

We really enjoyed it.

When we go back in April, I will be requesting N/S near the HH, and let the chips fall where they may.

We were in a studio on the first floor once. I think it was Bldg 64. We had a view of the parking lot next door, but we also had the cutest bunnies and baby ducks come up to our patio. This made for some very cute picture of my son and the wildlife.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Of course I could never actually hate anything about OKW, I was just hoping to hear some good things about first floor studios. Can't wait to go!

We have always stayed on the first floor at OKW and LOVE IT. No stairs HUGE plus (3 kids 6,5,2) and I much rather hear other childrens pitter pats above than worrying about what my kids sound like from above :rotfl2:

We have only stayed in 2 bedrooms so I am not sure how the views differ, but all our views have been of the golf course, and only one was bushy, but lovely!

OKW is the best for smaller kids. If they fall asleep at the parks, it is an easy transitition to the room, since you can park so close!!!

We had a first floor studio and loved it. The car was parked right in front of our studio and it was super convenient. Yes, you may give up a bit of a view as our room had just greenery around it but it was wonderful anyway!

While we rarely stay in studios, we did have a ground floor studio in bldg 43 several years ago. This is the Old Turtle Pond area. It had a nice view of a lake and had ducks come right up the patio every day. There was a couple AC units there, as I recall, so that was the only downfall of the view. Other than that, we felt it was in a very quiet, scenic area.
As for the ground floor units----while we don't mind steps at all, I can def see it being difficult with strollers and very young children (and we've done it). So with the ground floor unit,in addition to being able to park practically outside your front door, the lack of steps should make it very convenient for you. Have a great trip :cool1:

There are a very few 1st floor studios that will be on the road end of a couple of buildings that might be an issue, and building 29 is VERY hemmed in with vegetation for ALL units, not just studios. Other than that, we don't stress too much about where we are placed.

Stayed on the first floor twice and loved it NO STAIRS.
