WE will need to get a rental car for 1 day while we visit legoland. The day that we are going to legoland is the same day we are checking out of Grand californian and checking into Disneyland hotel. I plan on going to pick up car myself at downtown disney and then picking up family and luggage at Grand Californian. Will there be signs telling me whcih way to get to Grand Californian from Downtown disney parking lot? How far is the drive from Grand Californian to Disneyland Hotel? Also when I get back at night and I need to drop off car I plan on dropping off family and luggage first at DL Hotel and then taking car back. What is the best way to get from Downtown Disney to Disneyland by foot?

Maybe a couple of blocks. The Grand Californian and Disneyland Hotel are not far from each other. Don't know how you drive to one or the other, however. I'm sure the concierge at the GC can give you directions.

After you drop your car, yes, walking through Downtown Disney is the best bet.

:offtopic: my apologies.... Where can you rent a car in Downtown Disney?

There is a Alamo in Downtown Disney, not exactly sure where, I'm assuming close to parking lot.

Thanks for the info.... Now back on topic. You should check with GCH and see if their porter service will transfer your bags to the DLH for you. Because it is still within Disney property I wouldn't see why it would be hard. If anything I wouldn't take my luggage with me down to Legoland... If you have to pick it up GCH why not just leave it with the porters at DLH (Probably Safer than leaving it in the car at Legoland).

Not sure about driving between hotels and Downtown Disney tho...

Here are a couple of maps that shows you where the Disneyland Hotel is in relation to Downtown Disney & the Grand Californian. The link below it shows you an aerial of the area & when you put your mouse over it the labels will come up.

Yellow arrows lead to the GCH & the green arrows lead to the DLH.

When I asked awhile ago on this board i was told that bell services will not transfer my luggage, I was a lttle perturbed by this since DW will do this if you are staying at more than one location. Oh well.

I'd ask the hotel. I think they will transfer your luggage to another Disney hotel.

I wanted to mention that the Alamo location is very VERY close to DLH, well, the office is. I don't know where their cars are kept, but the actual office is *right there*.

I don't have powerpoint and can't make the pretty maps Mary_Jo does, but I wish I could, b/c it's really close!

I have not made use of this company or tour, but I bet I would, vs renting a car and driving to/from Carlsbad in a day (remembering that my brother lives in San Diego so I know WELL how nasty that drive is when you're not used to it).

Grayline (bus company) has a "tour" to Legoland. It's possible/probable it's more expensive than the tickets you can get online, but it includes transportation in a coach bus.

I don't know if someone who has the ducats to stay at GCH wants to take a bus, but since we took the city bus to Amtrak to get to BC for our fancy cruise, I know that WE would! :goodvibes

We rented a car from Alamo two weeks ago and did the trip down to Legoland.
Alamo is located on Ketalla not far from Harbour. Very easy to find and the drive down was nice and easy (we are from New Zealand so it was a little challenging!). I'm sure you'd have no problems navigating from one hotel to the next.

Thanks for the map. One question though, why is the parking for DLH by Grand Californian and GC parking by DLH. Are the arrows maybe labeled wrong?

The Alamo is literally across the street from Grand California's parking lot. As in pull out of the Alamo lot, cross the street at the light where you pull out and you pull into GC's parking lot.

To get from there to Legoland is super easy too. Just take I-5 south and follow the signs to Legoland Dr. (our GPS said it really funny though, all one word instead of Lego Land).

Ours too. Le-gol-and or something like that. Is yours a Garmin? DH gave it to me for Christmas and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! I keep it with mw everywhere, since I have a tendancy to try and take back roads to save time :lmao: and more often than not get lost!

yep it's that brand. And I LOVE that I got fired as the navigator!! LOVED having it this trip, made finding places to eat so much easier, driving was a dream this way.
