Will Disneyland open before Disneyworld?

The reality is, California has the 6th largest economy in the world. It simply cannot remain "closed" too long without impacting the entire country in some way. It will reopen, with or without all the key points in the governor's plan being fully in place. It is not possible to sit around and wait for a vaccine or effective treatment. Testing, tracing and isolating infected people and high risk individuals is the way forward and I believe what they will be focused on.

LA mayor just indicated he just can’t see concerts, sports or large gatherings being allowed in Los Angeles until 2021. I know Disneyland is Orange County and they have less reported cases, but this can’t be good news if the County next to them is getting information like this from health officials.

LA has been significantly harder hit that Orange County. They have a very different population size and area.

And that would be nice for Orange County if this thing recognized county lines, but it doesn’t. When Disneyland opens, you don’t think people from LA County will be crowding into the park? Forget the ones feeling symptoms.. it’s the ones that feel fine and don’t know they are infected deciding they are tired of being stuck at home and then deciding to go to Disneyland. Yes, Orange County and LA county have different density and population.. but you cannot think in terms of borders on this one.

Man, that would suck. Hopefully, here in Texas, I will get to make my own decision, because the Lt Governor (Lt Dan) already said he didn't care if old people like himself died for the young Bunch of real geniuses we have here. I think they will open up early in Texas. Although, I don't think we ever had a statewide "order". It will be up to the localities and each individual to decide for themselves. If it don't feel right, I'm not going out. Luckily, I can work from home. If all of that really had to be in place in CA to open up, it could be 2022 before that happens, especially the vaccine part.

Texas is my home state! My entire family still lives there. My dad is convinced Abbott will have everything open before June 1, and they’ll just wait and see if and when a second surge happens. my friends in healthcare in Houston tell me the hospitals are nowhere near capacity and they have all the supplies they need. Several friends are doctors at Memorial Hermann, and they have less than 200 cases as of a few days ago. I have to say i thought things were going to be worse in Texas and so far it’s been much lower than they thought. There has to be some middle ground between what I think Texas is going to do and the draconian measures of California.

And Lt. Dan.... omg I just learned today that it’s actually the health departments in each county in California that actually make the decisions. Which I think is worse than Newsome. I feel like we are never getting out. My husband works from home and is actually still based in Houston.... I told him if they haven’t opened schools, by August, we are going back home. I’m only partially kidding!

Especially so because LA County could only be a 15-20 minute drive (or less), depending on where you're coming from. It's not like people in LA County (me being one of them) don't go to Disneyland.

Has there been any talk of opening days for Shanghai or Hong Kong?? I agree- I feel like nothing here will open before them!

I know Shanghai has been slowly soft opening areas of Disneytown so I can see Downtown Disney & Disney Springs reopening first

I agree about middle ground. Also, Texas hasn't been too bad off (fingers crossed). We are in Austin and have been even better luck than Dallas and Houston. Luckily, even if Texas decides/demands things to open up, Austin can choose what they want. Also, we have a lot of California based companies here. Several high tech companies here, including mine and my husband's, went to "work from home" even before anyone in Texas encouraged or put in a place a stay-at-home order. Hopefully, we can both just keep working from home if we don't feel comfortable yet.

This is the correct answer. It depends on which governor relaxes restrictions first. And it appears to me that it will be FL.

Testing, tracing and isolating infected people and high risk individuals is the way forward and I believe what they will be focused on.

A large portion of CA’s GDP comes from jobs that are either essential and thus are already currently open, or from jobs that can be performed remotely. So, we’re better off than some other states from that perspective. One site I saw on unemployment figures had CA at about middle of the pack in terms of projected unemployment rate.
And no state is waiting around for an effective treatment or vaccine. That’s just an exaggeration.
Testing and tracing is key for all highly impacted states. But, that doesn’t seem like it’s around the corner yet.

Absolutely. Accros the board, restruarnts and shops will be firrst to allow to open (maybe with capacity limits) well before theme parks and the like. And once that happens no reason restaurans and shops in DD and DS can't open up with other places.

I read that the Mayor of Los Angeles plans to defer to Disney regarding when it is okay for him to lift restrictions on mass gathering events in LA. Meaning, he is looking towards Disney as the industry leader regarding entertainment venues.

With Trump now leaving it up to the governors, I think the answer is that WDW will open faster than Disneyland or allowed to open. The only danger is that WDW opens and there is a second wave where it’s back to the drawing board in Florida because there will be people who will flock and crowd into WDW the first day using the excuse of the politicians and Disney saying it’s safe enough to open instead of thinking of others (high risk people) and not having any self control.

I still think they'd want to open both at the same time. if they open only one I could see people with reservations at the one that isn't open changing and going to the other side of the country.... and demanding to be able to exchange tickets.

They may want to open both parks simultaneously, but if it’s clear one can open much sooner than the other, they’ll go that direction. I personally don’t think it matters. There just isn’t going to be a mass exodus of people flying from all over the country to go to Disney Parks. People are out of work. Everyone I know that’s still lucky enough to be employed are saving as much money as they can. We sure are. I mean, maybe I’m wrong, or maybe we are just more financially conservative, but I would just not be dropping thousands of dollars on a trip to Disneyland or WDW given the current economic situation. Maybe the people posting on here have recession proof jobs, I don’t know! I just think most park traffic will be mostly local state residents for awhile. Perhaps people with trips already planned will still come in droves regardless of the current economic situation.

My husband actually does have a recession proof job (military), but we live local to Disneyland and already have APs so returning when they open won't be an issue. However, if WDW opened first, there is NO WAY we would fly cross country just to go there instead. First of all, flights are scarce right now. Second, being on a plane for 5 hours straight isn't something I will be doing for a LONG time.

I agree that when the parks open, it will largely be visitors who are local/within driving distance for awhile.

New IHME update shows May 18 for possible relaxed social distancing in California. June 1 for Florida. However these containment strategies limit gathering size. In any rate, the analysis puts California 2 weeks ahead of Florida. Take from that what you will.

I know they were voting last week to open beaches in some counties but only for running/walking with the proper social distance guidelines in play
