Now that Covid seems to be stable, lots of families are preparing to drive to DW (or another stateside destination) next week for March Break.

I'm curious what others are thinking. We are seriously considering canceling our trip if the gas prices get insanely high ($10/gallon?)

if traveling to the states,,,the gas will be a bargin compared to here, so that would not stop us,,,but this is the 2nd year that we are not going march break. Bigger trip in July to Hawaii, so savings going there and giving up March break this year.

AAA is recording an average price (although record breaking) of $4.252 so I would think that you would be fine if $10/gallon was your breaking point.

I hate to comment on peoples personal situations, but if a couple of extra bucks per gallon of gas is your breaking point you should already be reconsidering your vacation plans though. Just my personal opinion, others might feel different, but adding a couple hundred bucks to an already planned and expensed trip is kind of a ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ to me.

I agree, the most pain at the pump would be filling up here at home before you leave.
We are the same, forgoing a trip at spring break (we are doing a two night staycation in downtown Vancouver at one of the Fairmont hotels) and putting some of the money that would have been spent at spring break to our Alaska cruise at the end of July (still owe a tiny bit on it and of course, excursions are not cheap there!)

Prices are crazy. I wasn't planning to travel over March break (after I cancelled, I guess too soon looking back). I plan to drive in May and have no expectation prices will be much lower. I do envy my parents their new hybrid car that they only need to fill up every 6 months lol. Course they are also retired and don't drive a lot, but that sure sounds nice :)

We aren’t driving down but plane ticket prices will rise too. Luckily we already have ours.
The bigger issue for me is that EVERYTHING is rising in price. I’m not exaggerating. I’m a budgeting nerd. I use a spending and budgeting tracker monthly so I have a really good idea of what I spend. Every single budget category has gone up. Groceries, all utilities, vet care, dog food, gas , household goods etc .

Now the huge increases in all the elements of travel. We have a pre paid trip for May but after that we will be very careful to spend less on travel . I think we still go places but we will eat out less or stay in cheaper hotels or shorten trips etc. Everything is getting squeezed.
