I was under the impression that Pete wasn't a huge fan of gay days (due to the crowds or something?)Just wondering if any of the podcasters will be at the Magic Kingdom on Saturday (June 6th). That's the focus park for gay days.
I hear what you're saying Kevin. I was so grateful when I lived in "Hotlanta" and they changed Gay Pride from June to October. It made a big difference.
In the past, it seemed like the podcasters that did attend Gay Days were the straight ones.
Here is an excerpt from a blog that Pete wrote many years ago about Gay Days :
"Over the years I have heard about, and have witnessed, what is commonly referred to as PDA (public displays of affection) during gay days, and almost always it’s done in full view of a family, or at least children. I don’t care if you’re straight or gay, there are some things kids don’t need to see – and trust me, two queens frenching outside Cinderella castle is really high on that list.
I can’t help but think of, and feel sorry for – the unsuspecting family who saved for years for a once in a lifetime trip – only to arrive and find that Disney had in fact, been invaded by he-women and shaved down muscle boys. By itself that would not be a problem, but the sheer number of people who seem to go out of their way to rub their sexuality in everyones face during this ‘event’ is nothing short of disgraceful." - Pete Werner
I agree with Pete that people who act that way are disgraceful but I'm sure there are people everyday at Disney who act inappropriately. To invalidate the entire Gay Day event because of a few that act poorly really isn't fair. I would love for Pete to attend again just to see if he changes his mind. (he used to hate the Contemporary and now he loves it)
I've only been once, years ago, but I didn't personally witness anything inappropriate. I just saw people who happen to be gay having fun just like everyone else. I will be attending this Saturday and am hoping to find people with Pride having fun and not needing to be inconsiderate to others to accomplish that goal.
Yeah, I had to re-read it to make sure I it was something Pete said. Doesn't sound like him.
Planning on getting over there at some point today. Will look for you Mike.I hope to see you all in the Magic Kingdom today and many more years to come. Don't forget your red shirts.
I will be there with a bunch of friends. Hopefully, one or more of the podcast will join us.
This will be the 25th annual Gay Day event at the Magic Kingdom and while it's not the most pleasant weather wise, we go because it's tradition. You don't postpone Independence Day because it's too hot, right? We go because dozens of friends get together on the first Saturday in June to celebrate and that's what it's all about for me - friendship and togetherness. Don't let the heat (and probable 3 PM thunderstorm) stop you from celebrating.
oh boy, no. It's not.
I mean, things have gotten SOO much better in the last several years especially, but the world is still full of hateful people.
Still a long way to go.
But in general, I feel if no place else, Disney is safe![]()
Congrats on proposal, hope you have a wonderful, long, happy life together!Eh in 2015 I just don't see the point in gay days although I support anyone who believes in it.
My fiancée just recently proposed to me with a huge ovation at the magic kingdom and it was two men - it just seems the support is there now where we don't need one day, everyday is acceptanced now as normal![]()
Btw, any direction on what I should wear as flower girl? I need direction!!Eh in 2015 I just don't see the point in gay days although I support anyone who believes in it.

A few years ago, I personally asked Pete to revisit his views on Gay Days and his article was removed from the DIS, but it seems that some people still seem to find it and repost this ancient piece of history. People online were using Pete's article to prove their point, which is no longer true. Thank you Pete for removing your article on the DIS.
