Will adult costumes be allowed at the Halloween party?

Does anyone know if they will allow costumes this year? I tried searching the forum but couldn't find anything definitive. We usually go every year, but are leaning towards skipping it if we can't dress up.

Unknown. It's a long way off.

They changed their minds for Run Disney event and allowed them with guidelines.

I was just there and saw a few adults rather costume like in the parks. Items that Disney said are okay in race but not okay in parks .... were in the parks for a normal park day. So ..... lots of inconsistency.

If they come up with a firm policy directly including the Halloween Party banning them, I think it will change many folk's plans. It will change ours. I would drop us from 2 parties to 1.

Okay, I guess we will plan on skipping it if they don't come up with something clearer within the next couple months. We live far away so have to plan.

I have a feeling they will allow adult costumes for the halloween party but will have strict guidelines that will actually be enforced.

Have you considered thinking about Disney bounding? I've seen guests Disney bounding each time I've visited since the new rules went into place.

As of now, adults will not be allowed to wear costumes. It may change, though.

Not sure where that info came from. But FWIW, I just did the Main Entrance training update recently for the "new" costum guidelines and we were told that the parties would be an exception to some of the guidelines and more clearly defined guidelines would come at a later date, assume that means when the parties are officially announced later this Spring.

I'm almost certain they will allow them as well with the same restrictions from the Run Disney event. There is no way to know until they announce it, but it's the only thing that makes any sense.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds promising and like they listening to feedback.

This is good to know! We have a couple more months before we have to make a decision.

Same restrictions...so I can't wear one of these then? :guilty::mad::sad:

Sure hope you are right because it will change many folks plans if they can't wear a Halloween costume to a Halloween party.

Pretty sure it came from Disney in a variety of ways....here are a few.

This from Disney's Mom Panel. While we all know they are not known for accuracy, Disney still has them representing them. "Guests over the age of 14 are no longer allowed to wear costumes in the Theme Parks. From what I understand, as of right now, this rule will also apply during Special Events, such as Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party."

This came out for Disneyland Halloween Party so one would assume like rules for Disney World.

Orlando Sentinel quoting Disney -
"...Disney World said Thursday that it would discontinue the sale of toy guns. New rules also include a ban on costumes for visitors 14 and older, even at Halloween parties. It is unclear whether people can still wear them at Disney races."

I would look for pictures from the marathons this year, all were after the policy and my guess is at minimum, that is what will be allowed for adults at the halloween party.

Basically disney bounding, dont look like a cast member, nothing that would cover your face, nothing that could even slightly be called a weapon or disguising one.

NOTE: this is my guess from what was allowed at marathons and not anything announced for halloween.

FWIW: Those pictured "might" NOT be allowed, not because of "character" but because of size and projection. Sometimes guests come with "oversized" costumes or devices that require manager approval at park entry. Happens sometimes. Mgr's try to be as accommodating as they can be but sometimes safety and logistical concerns override.

Just my $.02 after working 7 years of parties. MY DISCLAIMER: This in no way reflects or implies Disney policy as to what will or won't be acceptable, just my personal thought based on some past experiences.

Just so sad that a minuscule number of idiots who feel that it is their god given right to carry firearms into family theme parks (why?) have spoilt it for all the decent adults who love to dress up for the special events and for those of us who love to see their wonderful efforts, many just completely brilliant.

You answered your own question. Those of us who are not "insiders" have only been advised that adult costumes are no longer allowed, and no exceptions have ever been posted or revealed. So the exceptions to the guidelines to which you refer would be necessary to curb back the absolute nature of the current guidelines which are published in WDW's FAQ page:

Inappropriate Attire

Attire that is not appropriate for the parks—and which may result in refusal of admittance—includes but is not limited to:

  • Costumes may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older
  • Masks may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older

If the current guidelines were not absolute, then they wouldn't need exceptions. But since exceptions are contemplated, then the absoluteness of the guidelines must be accepted as a given.

Now, common sense suggests that exceptions will be forthcoming for MNSSHP. But until that happens, the above is all we have.

It was stated in the Orlando Sentinel article when the new security measures were put in place that the Halloween party specifically was included in the costume ban.

from what is out NOW, there is currently no listed exception to the "14 and over may not wear costumes" rule. There is no specific exemption for the Halloween parties. It appears we will have to wait and see if they publish an exemption for the Halloween parties at a later time.

I'm betting the Orlando Sentinel was going by the rule as written. That does not mean they won't change it or add an exemption for the Halloween parties later on. They haven't done it yet, though. The previous post indicates that they may be still developing guidelines for the parties.
