Will adult costumes be allowed at the Halloween party?

Obviously Disney will look at their bottom line while making their decision. They know how much everyone likes to dress up for the MNSSHP, and will not completely rule it out and lose profit. I'm not opposed to some restrictions if it increases safety, but still allows for everyone to have fun. We have also seen quite a few people Disney bounding and they have great looks.

We are holding our breath in anticipation and our thumbs in hope. Have been planning our costume for months as we are so excited to be able to attend all the way from New Zealand. Will be devastated if we are not able to indulge our inner children's!

Sure hope you are right because it will change many folks plans if they can't wear a Halloween costume to a Halloween party.

Pretty sure it came from Disney in a variety of ways....here are a few.

This from Disney's Mom Panel. While we all know they are not known for accuracy, Disney still has them representing them. "Guests over the age of 14 are no longer allowed to wear costumes in the Theme Parks. From what I understand, as of right now, this rule will also apply during Special Events, such as Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party."

This came out for Disneyland Halloween Party so one would assume like rules for Disney World.

Orlando Sentinel quoting Disney -
"...Disney World said Thursday that it would discontinue the sale of toy guns. New rules also include a ban on costumes for visitors 14 and older, even at Halloween parties. It is unclear whether people can still wear them at Disney races."
This is a super bummer. I just came across this on Disneylands site too. So I chatted with one of the Disneyland website people, via online chat, and she couldn't confirm the adult costume thing or not. She said she thinks the Under 14 was on the website last year, and people still dressed up anyway. Sounds like a gamble to me. And we should just wait until the policy and tickets post for this year.

I'm holding my breath too, no adult costumes on Halloween party tickets, we'd cancel the whole thing.

There was a policy statement from Disney since this thread was started. It clarified what would be allowed and what would not. It appears from that recent statement that adults can wear costumes as long as they meet certain criteria. What stuck out at me as different from prior years was encouraging guests not to dress in layers, not to wear capes longer than waist length and not to wear anything that drags the ground.

My post was from early February.

Here are the CURRENT WDW Rules:

Costume Guidelines
Before you brew up ideas for your next disguise—review our latest list of tips.

While we encourage creativity, we also value safety and good judgement. Please take a moment to read over our latest rules and regulations:

  • Costumes may not contain sharp objects, pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest.

  • Guests who do not adhere to these guidelines may be refused entry into, and/or removed from, unless his or her costume can be modified to meet the above standards.

  • Costumes and some masks may be worn, as long as the mask does not cover the entire face and eyes are visible.
For Guests ages 14 and older:

  • Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground. (e.g. full-length Princess dresses)

  • Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.

  • Themed T-shirts, blouses, sweatshirts, and hats are acceptable.

  • Acceptable accessories include: transparent wings, plastic light sabers, toy swords, and tutus. Headwear may be worn as long as it does not cover the face.

She said she thinks the Under 14 was on the website last year, and people still dressed up anyway.

It wasn't. They made a big change (from stuff that was already a change from before) end of last year/beginning of this year.

What stuck out at me as different from prior years was encouraging guests not to dress in layers, not to wear capes longer than waist length and not to wear anything that drags the ground.

Capes and dragging on the ground are pure safety issues and shouldn't have ever really been allowed. Especially having clothing dragging. (especially during a running event, since rundisney was brought up here)

Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening.

So they did a 180 since January, eh? Nice!

I am loving that they basically said "we'll send you through the metal detector, but go ahead and wear exactly what you wore last year and every other prior year". Ha!

I'm not a costume person and after trying both coasts' Halloween parties I'm not a party person, but I think it's hilarious and I think it's great for those who like to dress up.
