Will 3 adults in a stateroom be comfortable?

Hi!! My daughter, mom, & I are looking to cruise for the first time. I know the sofa will fold out into a bed, but how comfortable is it? Foldouts at the resorts are horrible for adults (so glad they're doing more Murphy beds), so wondering if I or my daughter will be okay on the foldout, or if I really need to get a 2nd stateroom. Thanks!!

The sofa bed is not your typical "fold out" type sofa. The back of the sofa folds open onto the seat. It has a regular twin size mattress on it, just like the Murphy bed and/or the bunk bed.



I have an adult son who's slept on the sofa bed, and said it was fine.

Be aware that two of you will need to share the queen bed if your stateroom sleeps 3.

It will be a bit tight with 3 adults but not terrible. I sailed with my mother and teenage son in a non-family verandah cabin on the Dream, and that was as full as I'd ever want to sail. I value comfort on vacations & personally wouldn't do it again unless we were in a "family" stateroom, which are the more spacious stateroom categories, and which often have a Murphy bed. I also would not be willing to sleep on anything but the queen bed myself, but again, I like to spoil myself when I'm on vacation (and I'm also the one paying so I tend to think I deserve it). If you're not looking for luxury, it should be fine to sleep on the couch or Murphy bed.

I didn't realize the family staterooms might have murphy beds, I'll have to check into that. Thanks for the info!!

The murphy beds are only twin size, but they look more comfortable than the converted couch. They're by the verandah or window. Most Dream class family staterooms have them. Check individual stateroom reports (making sure you're reading reviews for the correct class of ship: Dream & Fantasy have virtually identical staterooms, as do Magic & Wonder) to verify that the particular cabin number you plan to book has a murphy bed.

I booked a room with a murphy bed just for two adults, hoping the murphy bed is more comfortable? Although my friend did not complain about the couch/bed, which does flip over to have a real mattress. You need to look for cabins that sleep FIVE. That will tell you which ones have it, although I made my reservation by phone to Disney to confirm.

It’s the sharing a queen bed that is our deal-breaker. The sofa bed is fine, just not as fine as that big bed with the Frette linens.

I had a Murphy bed in a Magic Concierge cabin. Worst sleeping condition on a cruise. The ones in the Family Verandahs must be better; people don’t complain about them.

Cruise cabins are small - for 2 or 3 people. Getting a second cabin for one person (they would pay for 2 people, though - single supplement), is costly; check out the family deluxe Verandah. It has the extra space/ depth that is the width of the Murphy bed. I think that bed blocks the balcony door when lowered at night.

My kids were adult sized, and shared a stateroom with us, they had no complaints about the couch bed or the drop down bed or space. We had a Verandah stateroom on the Magic. The stateroom was 215 square foot.

It depends on what type of state room you book. If you booked a family verandah there are no issues since our party had 4 adults in the room.

My friend ( adult, not a big person) got black and blue bruises from sleeping on the Murphy bed with the wooden frame. She was not OK with it.

Not all Deluxe Family Verandah rooms have a Murphy bed. This was the second 4A room we had on the Fantasy, no Murphy bed.





Yes, the room still sleeps 4 (queen bed - 2; sofa bed - 1; bunk bed - 1).

We often sail with my Dad. He sleeps on the converted sofa bed and says he's comfortable. He's about 6 ft tall. The room is fine for 3 adults, we usually book a verandah room and the extra seating that the balcony provides is nice. Plus it guarantees the split bathroom which is a must with 3. The only thing you are giving up is having a couch if the person who's bed it is at night gets possessive of the space in the day, lol.

my hubby and I cruised with my parents and sister in adjoining veranda cabins. I believe my sister slept on the top bunk (right @Disney_Alli ) and was comfortable

We have sailed with our adult son (he is 6 foot) in a family veranda stateroom without the Murphy bed, and he did not enjoy the sofa bed at all! On top of that, the three of us could not fit on the veranda at one time, so we were always shifting around with one person sitting on the chair inside. He really wishes DCL would not charge a single person for double occupancy because he would love to get his own room and he wants that veranda!
