My husband and I will both need ecv's when visiting disney in March.
Will this be a problem using disney transportation or any type of shuttle service? Does anyone have any tips? If they can be taken apart.. are they able to be put in the trunk of a rental car? (both of them?)

My husband has very bad plantar fasciatis and I will be fresh out of chemo and radiation.. so I wont have the strength to walk long distances.

Thanks, Janetanne

I'm not of much use when it comes to rental cars ;) . About Disney transportation; keep in mind that most busses only have 2 wheelchair/ECV spots per bus (some have 3). With both of you using an ECV, there is a good chance that there will be moments where you will have to split up and/or wait for a second bus. For instance because there is already somebody on the bus with a wheelchair/ECV -for instance at resorts with multiple stops and resorts that share busses. Or because there's somebody at the bus stop in front of you with a wheelchair/ECV.

If you keep that in mind and plan accordingly, you should be fine using disney transportation. I just did 8 nights at WDW with a friend, both of us using a wheelchair. With it being very slow times, us mostly staying clear from doing rope drops and closings and us also doing a lot of stuff solo, we had only a hand full of moments where we couldn't ride the bus together.

A few years ago we had two families traveling at the same time with a total of six people and included two ECVs. At the rental place we tried everything we could think of, up to a Cadillac Sedan and nothing would work. WEe ended up with a work-around; if going to another Resort for dinner we would only take one ECV (for the broken ankle) but when going to a park we would split up and half the group take the bus with one ECV and the other half using the car.

After Judy became seriously ill, because of her size we were able to get a Pride Go-Go for her, which is fairly small. By putting both seats and the batteries from my ECV in the rear of our Taurus, I was able to get all the other ECV parts into the trunk. But we would not have been able to carry an extra person in the car.

So the answer is as long as it is just the two of you, and one of the rentals is fairly small, you can do it by putting some of the parts in the car's back seat or floor.

Two ECVs will fit in the back of a full sized SUV - that's how we did it when we had two

Give consideration to staying at a Bay Lake Resort (Boardwalk - Beach - Yacht - Swan - Dolphin) Then at least, you don't have to worry about transport to Epcot or the Studios. Also, many of the best restaurants at Disney acessible by ECV.

As Cheshire Figment said, if you have small (or at least one is small) ECVs, and there are just the two of you, putting them in the back of a car should be fine. I have a Highlander and my Golden Buzzaround Lite and my sister's Revo fit just fine in the back, and we have room for everyone in the seats, but those are two small ECVs. If you have one of them larger, I'm not sure, you might have to put some parts in the back seat, and some in the trunk, if you have a car, rather than an SUV type vehicle.

I think I'd highly recommend renting a car, rather than chancing Disney transportation in your circumstances, though. You are likely to be wanting to stay together and this would be your best bet - not taking chances of being separated for an unknown length of time on the buses. JMHO, though.
