2 adults, dare I say "middle aged" Love convenience to parks, casual atmosphere, generous food courts. Having conquered BWV and BCV, considering VWL in January. Hoping for feedback...:3dglasses

After a stay at VWL, you may never want to go back to the others.
Also be forwarned that you may develop an uncontrollable urge to add on.

Consider yourself warned.. pirate:

Just back yesterday, we LOVED it! Had son, DIL and two grandsons with us, but DH and I thought it was as great as our 'home', SSR. The villas were much quieter than the resort itself. The big pool was always packed, but the villa pool was rarely crowded. Our favorite thing to do, just DH and I, was get up, sneak out, and take an early morning walk around the place. Lots of 'wildlife' (bunnies and ducks!), very few people, very romantic.

VWL is wonderful. But given your desire for convenience to parks, combined with casual atmosphere (not the VWL isn't casual) I'd suggest BCV instead. That's because its so easy to get to Epcot from there, and the Studio's as well.

Just returned, two adults and celebrated "40" there for my birthday. Do I qualify for middle age? I guess only time will tell if it's "middle".:lmao:

Fantastic time. Loved everything. Took a boat out. Walked to FW. Hung out at the beach and pool. Drenched myself, with many kids, at geyser time. It's been a long time since we were in a studio and even loved that. Book it and have a wonderful time. Nice to feel cozy in January too.

Food court. Not a lot of variety (a la Value/Mods) but good. Ate breakfast, snuck a child's breakfast actually, there most days. Took it outside to eat. Sets of tables right out the door. And group down by the beach. The resort is very beautiful.

Lots of nook and crannies to relax. Lodge. Outdoor terraces front and back. Lovely room up the stairs by WCC.

Villas. Lovely room by entrance.

This is my favorite resort, food courts... there is one in the hotel. There are 2 TS restaurants. This is a wonderful resort. The boat ride is a such a peaceful way to get to MK. Enjoy!!!

DW and I liked it so much we bought the company!

I never get tired of saying that. I must be getting old.

Besides, half the people on here have probably never seen the commercial I'm riffing on.

:rotfl:

Anyway, we liked staying at that resort so much that's our DVC home resort. It's relaxing, and when we're there, we feel like we're a million miles away from everything, but we're just a short boat ride from the MK, the CR, and the monorail loop. And a short walk from Fort Wilderness!

We love V-Dub-L! I almost cancelled an add on at AKV because I felt that I was letting V-Dub-L down. I justified that add on at AKV by planning a future add on at V-Dub-L. :)

In a word "yes"!!! My DW and I love it for an adult only trip or when we take our kids. VWL is very casual and comfortable, can be very romantic (love the fireplaces and cozy corners), love being able to take the boat to MK, and just "hang out" at the lodge and pool. We enjoy the walk to FW, searching for hidden mickey's, sitting down at the beach for EWP, wine on the balcony, and the abundant wildlife. What's not to love about VWL:confused3 ? Hope you have a great trip!

We celebrated DH's 60th there. It is our favorite DVC resort. In January, temps should be fine to take a bike ride over to FW, we did in December and saw deer along the way.

Bobbi:goodvibes

DanenRox, we own at the VWL and just love it. Each evening we go sit in the WL lobby with some adult beverages and just relax and people watch after a day in the parks.

We think you'll really like it!

There are millions of reasons to love the VWL, but these three aren't on my list.

Convenience to parks - the boat service to MK is my favorite "ride" in all of WDW, but it's a slow method of transportation. Especially if the boat is first going to Fort Wilderness. That said, it's so lovely and peaceful!!!! Once you arrive at MK, you can take the monorail to Epcot, so that is easy. Transportation to MGM and AK is by bus, so not any real convenience other than the usual convenience of being able to use WDW transportation.

Casual atmosphere - Well, it depends on what you mean by casual. You can certainly walk anywhere wearing a wet bathing suit, but I wouldn't feel like doing it through the lobby - of course, I probably wouldn't do that in any of the WDW lobbies!!!! The word I would use instead of casul is laid-back. But there's also a "grand" feeling to the resort. Not grand as in stuck-up, but in the sense of majestic. Everything is BIG and ...well, grand!!!!

Generous food courts -In a word, no. If what you are looking for is something that has many windows, each serving a different kind of food, you'll be dissapointed. Roaring Forks should be thought of as more of a quick-service restaurant that a food court. There are good but limited options. We absolutely love it - I think they have the best cheesburgers on the property!! But you have to like what they offer. Poke around and see if you can find a menu from there, so you'll know what I mean.

All of that said, VWL is one of my very favorite vacations - I'll be there this summer!!!!! You should definitely give it a try!!!!

We were at VWL in May and we really enjoyed it(including DH who sulked about the waitlist coming through, he wanted to go back to SSR!).

Roaring Forks is more of a CS, than a food court. I'll agree with DVCLiz, the hamburgers are very good(took a bite of eldest son's). I split a pizza and some veggies and dip with my youngest(the CM in charge behind the counter insisted on making us a fresh one, than giving us the one that had been sitting). We picked up some bowls of fruit to take back and eat for breakfast.

Going to MK, we did the bus and the boat and preferred the bus, especially on the way back as the bus stop is close to the villas. Transportation was good to the other parks. Once again lucked out on our Epcot morning, short wait and many moans from the rest of the crowd as it was the 4th Epcot bus in a row. I think they were waiting for MK or AK.

Now DH loves the workout room at SSR, the one at VWL is rather small but had his favorite equipment.
