Wilderness Lodge VS POR Riverside - Royal Room

There is a boat that goes to Ft W from the WL. There is a path, too, but I think it is fairly long.

We stayed at WL in early February and are considering PoR next year. It was nice but we didn't think it was worth the extra $1000. I jokingly told DH that we could have bought 2 iPads for that! We were in the south wing and felt refills were a long walk. The lobby is beautiful, but once you get past that, the rooms are a typical hotel. We might have been soured in that none of our requests were met for room placement. Also DS refused to sleep in the bunks we paid extra for!! Again, nice hotel but we didn't find it worth the extra money.

We had a similar decision this time around. Since our last trip, I've had our next trip choices narrowed down to either Port Orleans or the Wilderness Lodge.

When all was calculated out, we were looking at an $800 difference between the two - Standard vs. Woods View.
Now...if that extra $800 was in the budget this year, I wouldn't hesitate to go with the Wilderness Lodge, and I'm sure we would feel as if it was worth it.
However, it's not this year for a number of reasons, and we'll be equally as happy at Port Orleans.

We'll make it to the Wilderness Lodge at some point, it's just not this trip.

There is a lovely quiet pool at the VWL, which is open to WL guests. We used it last month. And the pool is just on the other side of the WL south wing, which is really close. :)

True, however that doesn't compare to the 4 quiet pools at POR. We can usually find one of the quiet pools at POR close to empty. Every time we have visited WL, the pool at VWL has more people in it than we usually see at POR. Just a personal preference!

OP, my advice is to look at pictures of both resorts and let your heart decide. I was torn between the 2 for our April trip but my daughter is not in love with WL so we went with POR. The first choice would have been CSR but it was not available for our dates.
The two links are unofficial sites for the resorts with good info:

We did it! I booked the WL... The indoor corridors, boat transportation, and memories of Ft Wilderness really did it for me! Thank you all for helping with my decision! I feel great about it!

Have you considered doing a split stay. We do the mall of the time. We can never pick just one resort.

I would consider a split stay for sure, but I don't think I could sway DH on that. I would love to do 2 nights in AoA, just to experience it, then the rest of the week at WL... but I can't get DDP for the whole stay that way. I know DDP does not really save us a ton of money, but we LOVE not worrying about what the meals really cost us, pre-paying for them takes that out of our heads!

Am I right that the only way to buy DDP is if you are also buying tickets?

Yayyyy! :yay: You won't regret it!

If you book through DVC, you can add dining without ticket. Other than that then no.
