Wilderness Lodge Standard View vs. Woods View

I am staying at the Wilderness Lodge in July. A few years ago, I had a beautiful view of the pool and Bay Lake, but this year I am trying to save money.

Is there any reason to pay an extra $35 per night for a Woods View over a Standard View? We are staying for ten nights, so that's $350 difference. Is the Standard View something ugly? It seems like the woods would be considerered Standard View, but since it is not, I am a little concerned.

Thanks for any help you can provide! If you have stayed in one or the other room categories, I would love to hear from you.

We had standard view at WL. We were actually looking at a pool, the quiet pool behind the villas. We could see the woods, and somewhat the lake through them.

I've never been one to worry about the view, or at least pay to get a room with a great one. Have been lucky enough to get upgraded for fre a couple time.

Got pool view at AKL, and it was high enough to see the Savannah in the distance.

Got the water view at yach Club! This one was a winner! Overlooking the water and Boardwalk, we saw Illuminations fireworks to our far left, and MGM fireworks through the channel at Boardwalk.

I would upgrade to Woods view; we had a standard view for our August trip and the room's view was okay, but not great. We had a view of the loading dock, blech. The room had issues with the toilet not flushing and a giant, bright red stain on the carpet that looked like someone's sippy cup exploded between the beds.

We were moved to a woods view and that was much better. On our prior trip we had a courtyard view and it overlooked the quiet pool at the villas and was wonderful; very peaceful and pretty.

Its not a huge upgrade at WL but in my opinion worth every penny. I hope this helps! We love WL and I'm sure you'll have a great time :)

If you are looking for bunk beds you might have to do woods view.
Some friends of ours just returned and had book standard thinking
it had bunks but it didn't. I would definitely ask.

We stayed in the WL last year, paid for a woods view, in my opinion it wasn't worth it. We had a view of the "woods" but more view of the drainage ditch with stagnant water directly under the balcony. May have just been our bad luck though.

We booked a standard view for WL & this is the exact view I was afraid of getting!:scared1: When you pay what you pay for a deluxe, sorry but that is the LAST thing I want to see after a long day at the parks...we called & upgraded to a woods view-had a view of the pond-very relaxing!!!!:goodvibes

We have had woods view twice at WL - both times, we asked to be facing "The duck pond". On this side of the hotel, you can "sort of" see the Castle through the trees, you can see the monorails go by, you can see the Contemporary hotel and you can see the Firewooks from Wishes from your balcony! :wizard:

That said, I vote for getting a woods view! :goodvibes

Yes, yes, yes! If you can swing it then I wholeheartedly recommend upgrading to Woods View. However, be specific and request a view of the Otter Pond. We booked WV and were located on the 5th floor, right above Whsipering Canyon Cafe. Our room overlooked a loading dock (sounds of large vehicles beeping as backed up!) and it smelled like bacon (overwhelminging so!). You could also hear them clanging the bell at Whispering Canyon Cafe. They moved us to a 3rd floor room overlooking the pond and it was exactly what we expected. We were thrilled!

After that brief experience in the first room I don't think I'd enjoy a standard view but we are the type who likes downtime in the resorts so view is important to us.

I stayed at WL in October in Woods View and will only stay in Courtyard View in the future if we go back. Our balcony overlooked a swamp! We did see the fireworks from the balcony but I would trade that for a pool view just to be away from the swamp! It just didn't sit right with me.

We booked a woods-view when we stayed a few backs because I was worried about that loading dock view. They ugraded us to courtyard at check in. Well...it was on the villas side and it overlooked woods! But it was on the second floor and everyone who walked past looked at us, so we walked back up to the lobby and asked for our woods view as originally planned and got the very end of the hall, facing the lake straight on! It was a WONDERFUL view. We overlooked the boat dock and the geyser. Def worth it.

When we stayed at WL last November, our only choices were Standard view and Courtyard view w/ Bunk Beds, which was more than we wanted to spend. We were not unhappy with our view:

We were on the 6th floor, which helped. If we looked directly down, we saw:

But at night, we could see the fireworks with a direct view:

That night view is the exact one i'm hoping for!! We won't be in the room during the day so I'd rather save the $$ and see the fireworks at night. I requested 5th or 6th floor so hopefully we get lucky.

This was the view we originally got a few years ago when we booked woods view. Thank goodness for these boards because I knew that this was not a woods view. I complained to the bellman who went with us to the room and he immediately called ther front desk and told them the room view was not "woodsy enough" and they re assigned us to a room in the north wing near the otter pond. I never complained that they tried to put us in standard view when we booked woods view, but I probably should have.

Even Club level at WL has some terrible views. Our first room had a view of nothing but tree branches, and there was sap (or something) all over the balcony. Air conditioning didn't work, so I got us a pool view. They stuck us in a corner and the new view (remember this is Club level) was a wood support, a partial view of the room 90 degrees to our right, and a look at a sliver of the pool by hanging out over the end of the railing. The screaming noise from a roof-placed air handler unit that needed maintenance made it too noisy to enjoy the balcony anyhow.

We ended up going with the Standard View, because the difference in price pretty much paid for the two of us to upgrade to Deluxe Dining. It's just me and my daughter this trip, and we want to do a lot of character meals and dinner shows and experience a couple of signature dining restaurants. So this seemed a good way to go.

We are going to ask for a room that opens out onto one of the balconies of the lobby--and hope for the best. We had a bearface room with a gorgeous view of the swimming pool and Bay Lake four years ago. It was wonderful, especially with the Electric Water Pageant. But this time, we will just have to walk out to the boat dock if we want to see the Pageant.

Hopefully, all the special meals will make up for the missing balcony view!
