Wilderness Lodge Room Location Question

I will never ever ever pay to stay standard at WL again.. I HATED it.. I couldn't believe I chose that room over a nice room at CSR or even a value... I thought our room stunk when on the balcony b/c we were over the dumpsters and lobby area... we heard the loading etc.... pay for what you want... or you might get what you paid for.... standard overlooking the dumpsters... yuck! WE also moved to another room... we went to tell them to check us out.. move us back to a value or whatever they had to do... (they said everywhere was booked at the time of booking..) they told us to stay one night in that room and they would move us in the morning.. so we did! They changed us to courtyard! So now on.. I book courtyard only!

We were recently in room 6020, woods view with bunk beds. It was an awesome room.
quiet, but close enough to the elevators, and we had views of the contemporary, fireworks and magic kingdom.



I thought it strange that there was no public computer area with internet use, as I find such things even at the 60.00 per night Comfort Inn's along the east coast. When I inquired about the internet at the front desk of the lodge she said there was an outlet for access in our room for a fee. Even if I didn't mind the fee, this was useless as I don't own a laptop.

This really didn't bother me becuase in the end, the further away from a computer on my trip the better.

We had a loading dock view the first trip to the . . .lodge and moved the next day to a view of the Villas.

Unfortunately, these loading dock rooms will exist in most if not all of the resorts, and probably CSR as well. So it really isn't just a Wilderness Lodge issue.

We had a standard room for our trip this past July. Our room was on the 5th floor overlooking the smokehouse. We loved our room. You could watch the MK fireworks every night. We really didn't hear any noise. We are not the type people to hang out on the balcony for long periods of time so maybe that skews our opinion. It would have cost an additional $400 for woods/courtyard view not worth it to me. If they offered it for free I would do it.

We spent more time exploring the resort than sitting on our balcony anyway.

Can anyone tell me about the views when you book concierge? I am very confused

Our last two trips were spent at the Poly but we decided to try something new.

I would say that if you can swing it financially, go for the courtyard view. My family and I stayed there over Memorial Day weekend, and because I made a last minute reservation, all that was left was a courtyard view. We faced the smaller pool and the villas, and it was so peaceful to wake up to see all the greenery outside. Before this trip, I would have never believed a view would be worth the extra money, but it really is at the Wilderness Lodge.

We were a bit disappointed that "courtyard view" can also mean that villa-facing south side of the complex. When we signed up for courtyard view we figured it meant the main pool/geyser/babbling brook/etc and we were pretty excited about that. Right now the smaller pool is in rehab - empty with worker bees during the day, so the view was pretty much the grove of trees - which I would have called "woods view". Something to keep in mind.

I booked a standard view room for our May/June, 2008 trip. We upgraded from the CBR to the WL so our vacation was $1,000.00 more so I had to stick with a standard view. We aren't really the "I gotta have a view" kind of people so I'm sticking with what I have already booked. If I get upgraded I'll be really happy. If not, I'll still be happy 'cause I'm staying at the Wilderness Lodge.

I stayed at WL back in 2004 and booked a standard. When I checked in, I guess I received an upgrade to woods view, but the room I got was just awful. Instead of overlooking the dumpster (like many standard views), I got the ground floor room directly NEXT to the dumpster/loading dock. There was a fence around the dock, but the dock was very close and I could hear the trucks and workmen. I really wanted a balcony where I could relax and enjoy the sights, but instead I felt somewhat uncomfortable on my ground floor patio so close to that dock. I even joked that I was in "the dungeon" of Wilderness Lodge, as I felt disconnected from everything, tucked away in a corner on the lowest floor. I thought about changing rooms, but WL said "they were full".

Fast forwards to today, and I just booked WL for my January trip. I want to save money, but I just couldn't bring myself to book a woods or standard, so I booked courtyard. I never want to be near that loading dock again!! And I am one who does appreciate a nice view, and I want to feel "connected" to Disney, which I certainly didn't feel in that awful ground floor room. So this time, I requested an inner courtyard with a balcony (NEVER AGAIN ground floor) so I am going to fight for it at check-in!!

I used to think that views don't matter, but now I see that a bad view does affect me a lot. I want a nice view, so I am willing to pay for it now.

In response to my mom's (MouseDogMom) post, I agree that our room location was not the best. Not only were there the problems she mentioned with the horns, pond scum is NOT what I want to wake up to. And again, the disappointment when we realized that we were only 4 rooms down from the old room. I literally have a picture that shows it and it looks like we're in the room next door. Then there's also the fact that, oh sure, turning the fan on high drowns the boats out, but did anyone consider how cold it'd be when you woke up........

I have a question regarding the woods view. We are staying in a woods view in Jan. do any of those rooms face the service or dump area? Or are those strictly standard view? I am not quite sure, and was wondering. I switched from a std to a woods because I want to avoid that.

We have stayed in 6020 twice - it is a great room!!!!
