Can someone point me towards the Wilderness Lodge official thread? I can't seem to find it. I'm going there next week and I'd like to peruse the thread.

Thanks!!!!

Thanks so much! That's perfect. By the way, how did you find that? Is there a listing of main resort threads?

No searching involved. I have just been on here sooooo long that I recognize the look of many of the posts that I have read and have been here for a while:lmao: Is that a good thing:confused3 :rotfl2: Hope you have a GREAT stay, it is our favorite. I have pictures:cool2:

:confused3 I'm torn between Poly and WL...Was leaning towards Poly. Can you tell me why it is your favorite? We'll be going with 2 dds, who will be 7 & 4.

Thanks!!!!!

This was the first place DW and I stayed together and it holds very FOND memories for us both (enough that we bought DVC there). That being said, we also mostly travel in Dec. and there is no comparison of the decorations and theming between the WL and the POLY at THAT time of the year. The Poly theming doesn't mesh with the Christmas atmosphere to us like the WL (log lodge with floor to ceiling fireplace) theming does. Not saying anything bad about the Poly at all, because we visit there on most of our trips. This is where I say you need to capture whatever THEME you are searching for in your stay the most. We just happen to LOVE the log lodge theming over the tropical one when we stay there. We also have not toured with litttle ones, so I am not viewing it from that perspective. I will say that we have not had any unusual problems with any transportation there. We love the boat ride to the MK and sometimes over to the CR to catch the monorail. We hope you have a magical stay wherever you choose.:thumbsup2

While I haven't stayed at the Poly, I have visited for dinner. The WL, however, is my ultimate favorite and I have stayed at CSR, OKW, and SSR. So much so that I sold my OKW timeshare points to buy a resale at WLV last year. The WL is the kind of place that some of us walk into and are immediately drawn in like a moth to light. The lobby I was jaw dropping gorgeous. The architecture is incredible and the rustic yet elegant feel is what I love. I love the lobby and the spring bubbling up by the huge glass window and the little foot bridge, the waterfalls outside, the geyser and the lake. I am truly an outdoor lakeside person as I live in upstate NY and so to me it is also familiar. I enjoy taking walks on the nature trail to the campgrounds and check out the RVs that are decorated at Christmastime. You'll see deer, rabbits, and maybe even turkeys. The boat ride to the MK is relaxing and just takes 10-15 minutes and the electrical light parade is also fun for the kids at night (9:35) on the lake. While it truly is a matter of taste, I don't think you'll go wrong at the WL.

We were at WL last mos with our 8 & 5 year olds-THEY LOVED IT!!!
Loved the pool, the lobby, the geyser, the boat ride to MK, the balcony but especially loved the BUNKBEDS!!!

We've stayed in both places. The Wilderness Lodge is just so peaceful and beautiful. We're from Florida so it feels like we're in a different state and in a very beautiful setting. We're also partial to the pool as it has 2 whirlpools and the Poly doesn't have any. The lobby is breathtaking and pleasant to hang out in. The lakefront is also beautiful.

That being said, the Poly is also really beautiful. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the lake. If you're room is really far from the center location, the theme is not as intense and I felt it was kind of bland. The main lobby, the pool area and the lake are what make it special, but the rooms span quite a distance and you can end up being away from the real Hawaiin setting if I remember correctly. When you're right in the thick of it, it's really lovely and special.

It's just my husband and myself, and both these places are pleasant and romantic.

Thank you for your input. After posting last night, I spent a few hours looking into WL. My dh and I love the atmosphere. It reminds me of Great Wolf Lodge in PA, where we have taken quite a few trips since they opened.

I have also looked into the DVC, and was in awe as to what I saw. The DVD came last week, and I cannot see a downside (if you know of a downside, PLEASE let me know ;) ) We plan on going down every other year, and since the kids are so young, that would really add up, money wise :scared: .

Looks like I'll be spending some this this weekend on the phone with a DVC cm.

Only possible downside to both poly and wl is transportation takes longer to epcot and mgm areas. We don't go to magic kingdom. We do go to epcot, mgm and downtown disney a lot. Still, we feel it's worth it for the atmosphere.

I myself love the WL but if you plan to purchase DVC by all means visit each resort and stay at each if at all possible. Each resort has its own charm and appeals to people for different reasons. If you can book you're vacations 11-8months out then by all means buy at your favorite, if you can't book them that early then you loose your 11 month home resort advantage and might as well buy points where the maintenance is cheapest. So at 7 months out you can book at any resort. I can't think of any drawbacks and really like the fact that I can get an annual pass for $100 off the regular price as a DVC member. And if I wanted to stay for cash instead of points the annual pass will get you some pretty good room discounts. With the annual pass I justify going down at least 3 times in a 365 day period. So you may want to rethink your every other year concept with the annual pass discount. For example, if I go the 2nd week of December 07 then I try to go back in the spring 08 and then back again right after Thanksgiving 08 so I get 3 times out the annual pass. Then I usually wait another year or so till I buy the next annual pass in December again and start the whole process over. I have even stayed at the WL and not even purchased a park pass. I just did all the activities that I usually don't have the time to do when I visit the parks so it was a great trip that I would do again and again. Good Luck with your DVC decision.
