Gee... Glad you suggested we NOT go in the Dark of night Betsy!! Imagine coming across a Fox Den with COncierge treats in our hands?????? I hope the box WAS taken by animals.... Such a shame.. I was so looking forward to seeing all the mementos left by fellow Disers and adding my own to the collection!

Let's keep thinking good thoughts that it was only the wildlife and hold out hope and trust that the new box won't meet the same fate at the prior.

Fred, someone here mentioned asking a CM for help... Tyler over at Resorts Board is great. He is now working at Pop Century and seems like a great person, always willing to help out with answers, etc. Some Boards folks have met him at his new positionat PC. He was a Disney bus driver for some time (I think) and therefore must be knowledgeable about WDW property. Perhaps we can contact him, first to just ask his opinion regarding whether or not an employee purposely removed the box. He might even be willing to go out there and give the area a look. What does everyone think?

Thanks but a few cast members I am close with recommend we keep it to ourselves as much as possible.

As quoted from The Hunt for Red October, "If we get the right sort, this will work. But if we get some...buckaroo..."

As in, most people could care less but a pencil pusher that is by the book may get rid of it for brownie points.

Who knows, I "WANT" to believe it was a critter.

I am working on a plan to replace it. Of course it's another box with nothing in it but with some love from everyone, we can fill it up with great memories again. I will never forget seeing it after all those months. It was great seeing all the great stuff in it.

I will NOT let this idea die. If it doesn't work where it is now, I will find another place.

Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country! :)
(Uhhh...was that over the edge a bit?)

Nonsense! Majestic for President!:scratchin

Uh..... MMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE as a politician?!?!? I may get the popular vote but I can bet I wouldn't know what to do while in office! Uhhh...then again....do any of our politicians know what they are doing?

Oh boy...NOW you've got me going on a rant. :)

This is just kinda sad - hopefully it was an innocent mistake or an animal. I know people have left some momento's of a dear friend who past away this past year, and it was comforting to know a part of her would always be there....

I just happened upon your thread here. Let me ask you all something. If you owned a resort property, would you want your property to be defaced, yes that's what I said, defaced? Someone actually marked a tree? And this box, it's supposedly hidden. But now it's missing. Perhaps a grounds keeper found it and disposed of it. Don't you think it could raise more than a couple of concerns, especially after 9/11? Contrary to what it appears a lot of you are thinking, WDW is Private Property, we pay for the privilege of enjoying the beauty of nature. I am more than a little amazed that there are so many people who think this is acceptable. Even encouraging others to "Hide another one". The woods and paths therein are not a place for memorials. Anything left there may be turned in to the lost and found, but it could have also been found by someone other that a Diser (you are aware that not everyone who visits WDW knows about this site?).

I think that placing a box on those grounds, marking a tree with red paint, and then telling people where to find it so they can open it and place things inside for the next guy is very rude. You don't own the grounds; you have no right to place things there like that.

And as far as ask a cast member to watch out for it? Who comes up with these things? Would any of you want to have a box hidden in your back yard by a stranger, have lots of people traipse through your rose bushes looking for it, and then ask you if you would please make sure no one who shouldn't touch it doesn't? If not, then why are you all thinking WDW is ok with it?

Flame me now, but I won't change my mind.

Well, Mickeyfan1, I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion.
No flames from me. BUTTTTT i believe the box clearly was marked with a contact telephone number. How many bombs have contact info????

People feel WL is their second home, so I guess maybe they do feel like they own a piece of the proerty. The box isn't hurting anyone.

Majestic, after reading mickeyfan's post, I have to second the vote that we keep the location more of a secret?

Wow. I am astonished that there are people with that kind of view. I can't believe that it was actually posted here for all to read. Such negativity.

I won't bother flaming either. I have much better things to do with my time than pop other peoples balloons if you know what I mean.

Thanks for your input. Have a nice day. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Fred

No WL Vet will flame you as it is not our nature. You are entitled to your opinion, and you made some valid points.. Having said that, The WL thread members enjoys a Bond like no other on DIS. In fact if you knew the circumstance under which I am writing this you would have an understanding of how strong the Bond between us really is.

We are all mature enough to know you don’t go around defacing property or anything that would detract from another’s enjoyment of the area. The facts are the area is out in a swamp area off a bike trail at WL. The tree marking was not red paint, but an “X made with a rock and no life threatening harm to the tree. To understand our excitement and joy with the “BOX” requires the understanding of our Bond and friendship we share with each other

I am so happy to read the replies, I was stunned and really didn't know what to say, just tears of sadness. There is a bond of friendship here, thank you.

Bobbi:D

Someone is no Mickeyfan1!!

First of all...The tree was not defaced...Whoever said the tree was marked with red paint! Do you have a clue about what we are talking about?? Clearly not. The Box was hidden on a hiking trail, a place that you are ENCOURGAGED to go..not in the middle of "rose bushes".

In addition, the box is not "fixed". It does not cause any harm sitting under a bunch of dead leaves. It is a place that we can visit and have a connection with other DISers.

I don't know why you choose to attack something that is so benign. Why don't you take your cause over to the people that really inflict damage to WDW. People that steal towels, carve their initals in the balconies and deface the bathroom stalls and leave us alone for sticking a tupperware box under a tree for memories!!!

Maybe a non diser found the box and took it, not knowing any better. Quite possibly, a kid.

Wow.........

when i read the poster flaming us about a tupperware bowl that holds part of our magical bond between disboard members
i was speechless.....................

until i started reading about how everyone felt the same as i did ::yes::

Hey, Mickeyfan1, thank you for bringing us disboard members stronger and closer together::yes::

as a dvc member, owning at the wlv and paying dues, if i didnt have a problem with a tupperware bowl on the walk path near a tree, where anyone can go and are encourge to go, then i think a lot of other dvc owners dont mind either.

But i guess it all depends on how much of a magical vacation you are willing to have............

enjoy:wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2:

For goodness sake, Majestic didn't hide a box full of toxic waste in the middle of an endangered wetland! It was a small box, self-contained, on a well-worn path MEANT for pedestrian traffic between the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness! If you read the directions to the box, you will see at one point that you can look onto a road with bus traffic... This isn't an environmental crisis in the making! Furthermore, WDW itself plans similar "treasure hunts" though some of the childcare programs. When we were at Hilton Head last summer, a group of kids were running around with two CM's, searching the bushes for "clues" that would lead to the treasure hidden somewhere on grounds.

Get real people. You placed a box on someone elses property. You defaced the property, moving rocks to form an X, oh I'm sorry, nature did that. Now suppose someone finds the box and decides, Oh lets have some fun with this. Lets put some white powder in it, and see what happens.

No, a bomber wouldn't put his number on the box, but someone did, and left it. So if someone else puts something less than desirable in it, who could get the blame?

You all still have no right to place items on the property. Or move the rocks.

Keep your location a secret, but don't expect that it won't get found again and removed.

Sorry to cause "Tear of Sadness" but think about it form WDWs stand point. What you think of as bonding, friendship and fun, the grounds keepers think of as extra headaches.

I am speechless..... And I have PMS.. sooooooo ... don't get me started... so... I suggest we all allow this small minded individual to have her opinion.. and move on with our lives.... people like this thrive off of confrontation.. and as we all go to Disney to escape such negativity and plain meanness... I don't want my happy place messed up with this person's mental crap...... that said.. Next topic????

It's pretty simple, don't participate.
