Wilderness Lodge DISrs Memory Box Thread

Unfortunately I never got a chance to go look for the box.... with the weather being so yicky my first few days we didn't have too much time at the lodge... so... I didn't get to go... I did want to go the night of our meet but Betsy was scared off by prior snake sightings!! and we didn't have a flashlight.. or a BIG stick.... but oh.. how disappointing Betsy.. it wasn't there?? Oh.. hopefully it will turn up!!! I still have my memory box contribution in my pocket all ready for my next trip!! Pixie Dust to the box finding it's way back to the woods....

The box must be found!! We are planning on looking for it in May and then again in November with Grandparents and little cousins. This was one of our favorite memories of our New Year's Eve trip!! Someone please find it .

I really hope no one took it just for the heck of it. I hope a cm didnt find it and just toss it. GASP!

This is extremely upsetting to me, that box was soooo special and gave us WL lovers a magical moment indeed!

So it wasn't just me.....

The box was gone. I went searching on Feb 7th and it was gone. I know we were in the right spot because we found the X on the tree. It was very clear. But alas, no box.

We were sooooo disappointed. It was something that dd and I were really looking forward to.

Perhaps you can make this into an extra trip to rectify the situation...

I too went looking for the memory box on my trip, and it is nowhere to be found.
I quickly wrote directions before leaving on the 5th of Feb. I thought maybe I was missing something. We looked for the box on Feb 8th, it was starting to get alittle dark, so I kept looking. It was a chilly night, so there was no-one on the trail. My sister snapped a picture of me looking thru the brush, I'm sure I will look silly.
Sad that I didn't find it, but everything else about my WL stay was magical.

Well, it was there on the 21st as I had spoken to someone who had found it but said he left it there. Brand new box. Maybe the new one was too large and easy to find.

Sigh....

My next trip isn't till May. It looks like I may have to use my connections down there to replace the box. Not sure how long but it will be at least a week or so.

More info here as I make progress.

The only thing I can think of is either a cast member found it and couldn't READ to call if found OR someone took it for the sake of keeping it OR to ruin the fun for everyone else.

It really makes me sad. I could care less about the box itself but the memories inside were priceless and irreplaceable.

Please, I hope we can find it....there were so many special momentos in there from ALL of us.

Fred, I won't be back there until May either, if there's anyting I can do, please let me know. (I think next time, I'm putting a phone card in there incase a CM finds it and didn't want to call! ) I'm so sorry Fred

The phone card is a good idea. I can't understand why the person that found it didn't call me.

I am really upset about this but am already working on a plan to replace the box and soon!

Could a critter have messed with it? THEY can't read... I know raccoons here in Indiana are terrors... They can upset sturdy Rubbermaid garbage cans...

I am at WDW 3/13-3/21. Also available for "box duty" if there is anything I can do... We had printed out the directions to the box and were all ready to search for it!

You may still get to do it if things work out. There is only ONE variable that I am concerned with....what if it was someone who doesn't like the idea of the box and will keep going back to remove it. That sounds nasty but IS a possibility. It is for that reason I am working on a plan A for replacement and a plan B for replacement in a NEW location. If the next box dissapears again, I will not publish the location of the NEW box. It will have to be requested so I know each person that is going to it and when.

I did mean to tell you that there is a rather large den located just to the right of the box.
If someone went to the box with the smell of food on there hands, the occupant of the den might have taken it. I could have crawled in the den, it is that big...I know that animals will tear into ANYTHING if they smell something interesting!

It may be a good idea to send it to each person who requests it. But only like you said, after Plan "A"'s replacement box disappears again. For all we know, it could have been an animal...who knows.

Part of the fun was to "hunt" for this memory box and FINDING it.

I think there would some tell-tale signs if it were an animal, other than a human animal that is.


I also think that not letting it's placement be known could be looked upon as an invitation to find it and mess with it. I feel again like it's the end of the "Age of Innocence."

Thank you again Fred for what you've done and will try to do. We have a great memory, and I do hope there's a way to continue.

we will be there april 11- 18 and if we can help in way please let us know, we were really looking forward to looking for the box and adding something special, for when we bring our family reunion down at christmas at the wlv.

to bad we dont know a cm that works at the wlv to keep an eye on it or even ask for the cm and he/she gives you the box, i know that is no fun, but its ashame that the second box is missing in action.

please keep us posted, looking forward to the new box, agin if we can help in anyway, please let us know.

I don't know.

The area is pretty beaten down. I told Fred you could see where people had stood. And this den was big...big enough that I wouldn't have wanted to get too close..I am sure it was just a fox den, but we do have bigger animals!!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_3_161.gif' border=0></a>
