I'm trying to figure out my touring plan/FPs for AK. We've never done Wilderness Explorers before and it sounds like fun. We will be there for rope drop and are planning on doing the safari first thing. It looks like we should pick up the Wilderness Explorers booklet up first, rather than have to come back for it.
How long does it take to pick up the booklet?
Am I going to lose significant time if we pick it up before heading back for the safarit?
Thanks!

Picking up the book takes very little time... under 5 minutes. You get the book, take the pledge (to get your first sticker) and off you go. There is an activity in the book to do while on the safari and a sticker you get after going on the safari. If you're planning on doing the safari a second time later in the day (highly recommended) I'd probably just double back and get the book after doing the safari the first time, but that's just me.

It doesn't take very long at all. Just a few minutes. Really the only slow down might be if there are people there ahead of you and you have to wait in line for a minute or two. My girls did the program back in June and the whole family really got into it! It's very well done and entertaining for all ages! Have fun!!

Thanks! Is it easy to find? On the map it looks like it might be accessible if they let us in before rope drop? Anyone experienced that?

It's very easy to find. It's just inside the main gates before you get to the Tree of Life.

Like PP's have said, I would pick up the book before you ride the safari so you can be working on the safari badges.

Pick up the book. It is fast. My son was so enthralled with it that we got all 31 badges over 2 days and he got to be a senior wilderness Explorer. I wish I'd gotten a book too, it was a lot of fun!

Just to note - I think there are something like eight things to do at Rafiki's Planet Watch so it might be fun to do that before or after your Safari.

This might just be me but I have always had the darndest time figuring out how to best get around AK. It's taken me numerous trips over several years to finally feel like I know how to get around!

I remember having a bit of trouble finding the place to get the book when we did it in Jan, even with the map. Again, maybe I'm just dumb!

We really enjoyed WE, it added a fun activity for us.

I feel the same way about AK! It really frustrated me the last time we went and I am trying to approach it a new way this time.

Lol! At least that makes two of us. :thumbsup2 For me, I think doing that WE thing actually helped a lot! On that particular day it was just me and my son and we pretty much only did WE (and at the time they also had a Lion Guard thing too). We were able to slow down and actually enjoy/explore the park. Then in July and Sept we went for several nights/evenings which with all of the entertainment is like a totally different park. We had sort of dismissed AK as a half day park when DS was younger but we definitely have been spending more time there lately! It does help now that I feel like I can navigate better!
