Wilderness Cabins

We stayed at FW cabins 2-3 weeks ago with our two boys ages 4 and 16 months. We liked many things about the cabins but probably won't return until the boys are older and we can take greater advantage of the perks at FW like the campfires. We regret that we never got to walk more of the trails or rent a boat while we were there. We wanted to spend most of our time at MK and, for us, the transportation issue was a pain. You have to take a bus and then a boat to MK, by the time we arrived **I*** felt like I needed nap and we hadn't gotten the day started yet! However, we drove to all the other parks and that went great. I did like that we were steps from the bus, yet, I never heard it.

The setting was beautiful, nice and quiet. The cabins are not far apart so I wouldn't worry much about security. The extra space was great, as was the kitchen (though be warned, not many actual pots and pans). Our cabin was not very clean, especially the floor and carpets. I had to wash the floor myself and the boys were still black with filth on their pants and socks by the end of the day.

We wouldn't dream of renting a golf cart, very low on our list of priorities. As someone else said, I would rather put that money toward another deluxe resort or, in the case of our last vacation, souvenirs and food.

All the cabins are supposed to have pack and plays (for use as a crib) in the closet. We tried it one night and it was too cramped for us. We ended up requesting a bed rail and put the baby down on the double bed in the bedroom. One side of that bed is against the wall. DH and I slept on the murphy bed in the living room and that was fine, perfectly comfortable for us.

I have a more in depth review in this forum if you wanted to search for it. Or you could PM me for further details. Overall, we liked the cabins but they didn't wow us, however, we predict more stays there - we'd like to have a 3rd child and we'll need the room - and happy memories made there too!

Can anyone tell me how they liked their stay at the Wilderness Cabins? Good points. Bad points. I will be going to Disney with myself, wife, mother-in-law, DD (5) and DS (3 and 1). I thought this would be a good place to stay, but I have to convince my wife. Help!!!

It would be great if you can put your mother in law in the bedroom with the kids.

We loved the cabins, and while I would like it a lot more than a single hotel room with my MIL, if she had to come along, I'd prefer her to be in a totally seperate room and bathroom.

We have stayed at the cabins 4 times now and that is our preferred resort. I especially like the kitchen because I like to cook although what is in each kitchen is inconsistent among each cabin.

We feel really safe. Everyone is very friendly. There is lots to do.

I dont like that the stores close so early.

The transportation can be frustrating if you are really eager to be somewhere. We dont mind because we have been there so many times we aren't in a rush to get anywhere.

Have a great time!

We stayed there our first 3 trips. This was perfect for us when my DS was young. It gave us extra room & privacy, as well as the convienence of the kitchen.
We weren't bothered by the transporation, although it definately wasn't as easy as say the Poly.
The pools need upgrading or they need to turn River Country into the themed pool area for FW.
We particularly loved coming back to the quiet, cool peacefulness of FW after a commando day in the Parks.
We loved the amenities & really took advantage of all the great things to do onsite.

I highly recommend the FW Cabins. We will be taking my Stepson, step-DIL & grandsons to WDW for Christmas next year. I'm pretty sure we'll be renting a couple cabins for the trip. I think it'll be perfect for our grandchildren & convienent for DSS & SDIL.

My family has stayed at the cabins lots of times over the years. We have DVC now, and that allows us to stay in very nifty accomodations, and my kids STILL ask "When can we stay in the little cabins again?"

For MKY, I would not hesitate to stay in a cabin with "just girls." The cabin loops are nicely landscaped and hardly "in the deep woods." Each cabin has a little deck and lots of people are out in the evening enjoying these. You can park right in front of your cabin if you have a car and there are security lights. Rest assured Ft. Wilderness is no wilderness! There are certain areas that allow only foot traffic, which is fine because the buses run and there are sidewalks for foot traffic. But in terms of women staying alone, no, this place is not creepy at all. My kids played outside and I felt they were quite safe. Campers in general are friendly folks, and the atmosphere at this resort is very relaxed and comforting. When I was a kid we had a camper and we stayed just about every summer. My best childhood memories are of Ft. Wilderness!

We really enjoyed the seclusion of the cabin, but we didn't fully utilize it. We would get up and go out and return in the evening to sleep.

The only major drawback is that you have to catch a bus to catch a bus. That got old at the end of the week.
