Planning a trip to Disney Wilderness cabins for Christmas and since this is my first time at the cabins, can someone tell me if there's a preferrred location? What loop, etc.? Also, is renting a golf cart necessary? WIll my kids ages 8 and 5 find it too long of a walk to get to bus stop or are the buses just too busy?

Thanks for the help.

I'm by no means an expert...we only stayed in the cabins once, last February (but we had such a great time, we're going back in December!) I'll just share our experience. We stayed in Loop 2600, and we loved it...right across from the smaller pool. I've heard 2500 and 2700 are nice, too. Maybe some others have good points about the other loops.

About the golf carts...it really is a personal decision. I brought five kids, and two of them were 5 and 7. Our cabin was pretty close to the bus stop. We were there at a quieter time, and we thought the buses were great, and we relied on them solely for our transportation. We didn't rent a car. Money was an issue, so we did not rent a golf cart. I think they look like fun, and would be very helpful with anyone with mobility issues, but I wouldn't say they were necessary for your average family. Fun...yes, necessary...no. Just my .02 cents....

I think you'll have a great time!

P.S. Are you going right over the Christmas break, or earlier in the month? I know the more crowded times will make everything busier, including the buses. But I think it will be okay if you just realize that, and plan accordingly.

We're getting ready for trip # 5 to the cabins. When DD was younger, I did used to ask for a cabin near the front of the loop because it was kind of a long walk (depending on the loop) to the far end in the evenings when she was tired. Now we really don't care. The 2600 loop is right across from the pool and laundry. Our first and second trip we lucked out with a cabin only four or five back in the loop so it was a real short walk to the pool and to the bus stop. The 2500 loop was near the pool also and we liked it there. But any loop (even at the back) is better than not being at Disney at all!

We've never done a golf cart - always seemed like I had better uses for the money. But the only times we really missed having one was late at night - in the mornings the buses always seem to run fairly often and we like them - I've had some great conversations with people I met on the bus.

If you do decide you want a golf cart, make res. early, they go fast.

We stayed in the 2500 loop this past Feb. We could have had a cabin at the loop entrance, but ours wouldn't have been ready until that afternoon.
We took the first available cabin, which was a few back (2514, I think), and we loved it! We realized later that the cabins nearest to the road had all the bus noise, but ours was peacefully quiet.
Our kids had no problem getting to the bus stop, as it was at the entrance of the loop. We only used the buses, and they were great.

My dh is sold on staying onsite, especially the cabins, mostly b/c it was so nice to park the van up near the cabin door and leave it there for the week.
We are hoping to stay at the cabins again, but we'd have to have grandpa and grandma along because we have too many kids for the cabins now. Sigh.

We love the Ft. W cabins. We have stayed there 2 summers in a row. I would love to go at Christmas time. You could even get a table top tree. LOL!

We do not request a specific loop, but we do request to be 2-3 in on the loop. Having 5 children(2 in strollers) is it helpful to be close to the bus stops.

Our first cabin was in 2400 loop. That was perfect and we loved it. This summer we were in the 2700 loop - that loop is huge! We really liked it and were the second last cabin in. Although our back was to the road, we did not hear many buses or traffic.

This summer I took some Disney stuff to decorate the cabin with.... a Mickey bobblehead put in our cabin window, Mickey papertowels, a Disney cup to hold our toothbrushes, etc. It was fun.

If your youngest is 1yr old, you still have a few years left to fit into the cabin. That is going to be the hardest thing for us, when WDW considers us to have outgrown the cabin. I think while the younger ones are still little that it should be okay for us to fit.
