In Indiana they eat brain sandwiches. DIS-GUST-ING! And some kind of soup calld burgo - (Double disgusting). But I love sushi and venison and wild boar. My dh loves escargot but to me they're garlic and rubber bands.

Good Night all! Sweet dreams and no indigestion ;-)

Hi Everyone!

I'm happy to report that I worked out today and I feel really good :cool1:

Weirdest thing I've ever eaten....well I've done the sushi thing with tuna..I actually like it....I've tried alligator spread and if you've been to Narcoosee's and used the stuff that comes with the bread than you've had it too...I can't remember if I tried ostrich or not...i was sitting with a friend who was having it but I don't think I tried it. I was almost tricked into trying "sweet breads" once....NOT! And I had NO idea what red eye gravy was either but I do know what fluffernutter is.

KATHY- I responded to you over on the main board. Your excursion does leave at the same time as mine on St. John. We meet at 7:15 at the Buena Vista Theater..I guess we do the customs thing first. So in all likelihood we will be traveling together :thumbsup2

Have a good night everyone!

Kelly

Good morning everyone, rise and shine :sunny:
Today is Sat. so it will probably be quiet on this board today. I find all of your strange eating habits interesting. I"m just not brave enough, maybe on this trip :confused3 I was forced to eat liver when I was a kid, now that's enough to make anyone want to run away from home.
Does anyone know what scrapple is? I'm not even sure I spelled it right. Hope you can figure it out. I had a friend who ate it all the time and she tried to get me to try it. I didn't like the looks of it so I refused her offer. When I asked her what it was she said she'd tell me after I tried it. Never tried it so I never found out.

Have a great day :goodvibes We are hoping for cooler weather today.
Pat

Good Saturday Morning To All,
Well it's another very crispy cold day here in NY but going to be sunny :sunny: :sunny: which is nice!! Well last night had pizza at my friends house to watch the Yankee game. We left when it was 0-3 Tigers. I didn't even turn the TV on when we got home because I was soooooo mad :furious: :furious: :furious: that they were losing. I can't believe that they lost 0-6 :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:. Today DH and I are going out for a nice lunch and going Christmas shopping while my in-laws babysit DS. I hope DS is GOOD ;) because right now he is very attached to me. I was also tricked into eating deer!! It was not bad it did taste just like chicken. Well gotta go feed DS his morning bottle. Talk to you later!!

Cmaelltt: Get scrapbooking pages!!!

48 days till we sail--Not soon enough!!! :sail: :sail: :sail:

Good Morning, All!

I LOVE liver, when it's not over cooked. With bacon, mashed potatos, smothered onions - ooooooh it's a joy. I wouldn't eat scrapple either, nor tripe. Once I had this great greek easter dish called (phoneticly) Ma-he-retz-u. OMG it was SO GOOD. Then I got the recipe. in short - innards of lamb. never ate it again.

Today, grocery shopping, house cleaning and soup manufacture - we're having souper supper tonight for the neighbors!

Happy Day, all!

Scrapple is just yucky....the taste isn't bad as I remember but knowing whats in it turns my stomach. I'll pass. (I'm a big liver fan too Linda, btw).
Hope everyones day goes wonderfully...
Go Buckeyes!!!

:sunny: Morning fellow nana heads....just a quick hello since I have to go to work today....yuk  its only 2 hours but just that I have to get up and go for 2 hours is a pain....oh well...

right now surrounded by my lovely dogs......I can hardly type....they love me sooo much.....oh wait....it must be the bagle sitting up on the desk that they want.... :)

Talk with all later.

Cheri ... beef heart gravy? Beef tongue? EWWWWWW! And raw beef with egg is steak tartar (no, I haven't been that brave).

Wendy, I love raw oysters!!! Yum yum ... there's a restaurant we've gone to in Cleveland that has an appetizer with about 4 different types ... so good! :goodvibes

Kathy: Rocky Mountain Oysters? Um, no! I don't think so. I know EXACTLY what they are :sad2:

Steak Tartar -- I knew it had a name!! :thumbsup2

And just to gross you out a little more, I always liked having the very tip of the tongue! :lmao: We haven't had either of these for about 20 years (ever since people started worrying about cholesterol), but they taste similar to turkey or chicken giblets.

Speaking of Rocky Mountain Oysters, there's a town near here that has a Turkey Test---- Festival!!! I guess they have a huge turnout! Ick! :crazy2: Denise - It's in Huntley in case you decide to try something new!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Morning Nanas!

Supposed to be a nice :sunny: day here. Gotta get the house straightened up and then I'll try to find something to do outside.

DD wants to make Jell-o today -- maybe I should thow a calculator into the bowl! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Have a great day -- check back with you later!

I'm not trying to be mean, but I find this so funny, I would never think that anyone would not know what red eye gravy is! It's funny how regional we still are, ain't it?

It's a staple of the south. It's a real thin gravy that is used on just about everything. It's made with the juice, after you cook ham. My grandma is from Birmingham and made it for a lot of stuff, from grits to cornbread. It's kind of salty, but not overly so.

I think it could be compared to like an au juise (sp?) sauce, but thinner.

TiggerKing, I reckon we still gotta learn 'em don't we. :thumbsup2

Steve
Yes, we still have to teach them northerners what true culture is all about!

Jeff: Red eye gravy, as Steve noted, is made from the drippings of ham or bacon with a little coffee added to it (thus the red eye). It is good for sopping biscuits, putting over grits and other various breakfast foods.

Yuck! I don't do raw food! If I remember correctly, in France they served basically raw ground beef with a raw egg (I could be mistaken about the egg being raw). Ick! Any of you world traveler / food connoisseurs know what this is called?? :confused3 :crazy2:

As far as (cooked) oysters go, I did find a little pearl in an oyster while eating oyster stew! ;)

Cheri
Cheri: That is the traditional way to serve Steak Tartare. It is raw ground beef (high quality though) mixed with some seasonings and then crowned with a raw egg on top. It is really a European thing, not just France.

As far as unusual foods, I had Carpacchio (sp?) in The Netherlands. It is very thin sliced raw beef and served with a balsamic vinaigrette "dressing" to go with it. It was surprisingly good, but I had no idea what I would be getting when I ordered it!

Happy Weekend Banana Heads

Can you believe it? If you look at our counters they actually start with "1 MONTH, 2 WEEKS"!!! Unbelievable that it's really this close!

Bob, I'm so upset that you didn't even take a stab at me for my accurate description of red-eye gravy for Jeff :rotfl2: ! Geez ...

Cheri: Calculator in the jello got a snort from me! Nice one :lmao:

Catch you all later ... good luck to your college teams! GO BUCKEYES!!!
