'Wild Hogs' sequel scrapped

"Wild Hogs 2: Bachelor Ride" has become the third big budget film that Disney has cancelled since Rich Ross took over control of the studio.

The Touchstone Pictures sequel to the 2007 hit was preparing to begin production next summer, with Walt Becker back as director, and John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy reprising their roles from the original.

According to Variety, "Wild Hogs" writer Brad Copeland had written the sequel script, and new writers were in the process of being hired when word came down that the picture wasn't going to get made.

It’s believed that one factor in the decision was the poor business of Disney's Becker-directed "Old Dogs," which starred Travolta and Robin Williams.

This comes after the studio yanked the Robin Williams-Anna Faris comedy "Wedding Banned" as well as a McG-directed "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" remake.

1) BUMMER.
2) Even though the others failed, I think the sequel would have done well.

While the first one had a couple good moments overall I don't think it was very funny. One of those "looks funny from the comercials showing all the good bits" films.
Losing the second one does not upset me in the slightest.

Good. With news like this and the critical success of "Princess and the Frog," maybe Disney can get back to making quality movies again instead of just chasing demographics and dollar signs.

My feelings exactly.

I'm tired of Hollywood rehashing themselves with nothing but sequels and remakes. Very few truly "new" movies coming out these days, they're all just leftovers baked into a souffle and packaged as something new, but they really aren't.

How do you feel about Toy Story 3?

And then the Cars sequal?

Cars was by far not up to the standards of most Pixar movies - visually very nice, but not a great story or execution. I can't imagine a sequal being any better. Anyone should know a Cars sequal is 99% about making money on little boys, who love Cars, and are the only reason it has any lasting value at all.

The Toy Story films, on the other hand, are great, though I'm not sure how #3 will turn out - the previews do look cute.

Movies that are intentionally broken up into multiple films are a different story - POTC, LOTR, HP, etc. It is the one shot movies that have some success that Hollywood then tries to piggy back off of with a hastily thrown together script full of drivel that are the problem.

There may be nothing new under the sun, but you can still at least make an attempt to present old stories in a new way. Hollywood just seems to have lost most of its creativity.
