Wild fires near DL?

Honestly I think our air quality is going to be bad from the fires all summer. The fire danger will just get worse and the fire fighters are so over worked already and we are still almost a week before the end of June. You have to figure that in California we normally do not get any measurable rain before Halloween so everything is still very dry at that point. We are looking at a very long fire season this year.

I totally agree....I just hope they can control them. So much for beautiful blue skies for our summer. Maybe there will be enough of a break in between that the skies will clear up some. At least it's not 100+ out there!

It would be nice for the fire fighters and us both. Thankfully it is cooler. We are fortunate because we live close enough to the ocean we can always head west for cooler weather when it gets hot. One of my favorite places to go is almost out to Point Reyes and we go there when it gets unbearable. We can be there in less than two hours and cool off by at least 20 degrees.

Oh the air quality will be bad for months to come, that is a given. It is the thick smoke that will clear once the fires are under control/out.

We live on the Central Coast of California inbetween Santa Maria and Santa Barbara and we have gotten some of the smoke from the fires up North.

I live in Chico...about 100 miles north of Sacramento. Our air quality is so bad I only leave the house to drive to work and back. I've been taking my lunch to work so I don't have to leave the office. My husband's golf league was canceled tonight because you can hardly breath outside. He was really sad about that. Now I have to deal with him moping around the house!

Oh I can only imagine how bad the smoke is I know that area got hit real hard by the dry lightening. Not to mention the fire in the area between Chico and Paradise.

I live in Sonoma County, it is @45 minutes from San Francisco, and the smoke is most noticeable in the shy and clouds, as well as its smell, it most definitely stinks like burning brush, and god only know what else. Today was a warm day, but not so warm to where I would have turned my a/c on, but did, until much later in the day, because of the smell of smoke in the air, it did not take long before I started getting a bit of a headache from it, so I figured o.k. before I drive anywhere, I will turn my a/c on, instead of relying upon the "fresh air" because there really is none, at this time, it was the worst this morning, it smelled like the house was on fire, it was not, but it sure did have that smell to it. Then I began to think, I have 6 cats, 2 fish, and 2 parrots, and only one strong cat carrier, which I can fit the two small girls in, and one card board carrier, only one can go in there, and not my tom cat for he weighs at least @17 pounds, he is not fat, he is big boned, and has long hair. I can take the birds in their houses, and the fish, well, I can put them into a small container, but I don't know how long they can last, without their thermostat and filter system. Crap! maybe a local pet store can babysit them? I do have to think about these things, because fires in this county do happen, and one never really does know when it might just affect us, in this area.
I can fit every one into my car,it would be a zoo, especially for the fish, but it can work out, so I like to think.
I would need to find a safe place for my pets, somewhere that I can know someone can help me take care of them. For I would like to help others as well, with their cats, dogs, birds, horses, cows, if it is an animal in need, if I can be there to truly help, then just point me in the right direction, I even have my own horses halters, that I can use, if needed.
What kind of plans does everyone else have for their pets, in the event of a fire that is too close for comfort in your neck of the woods?

Goodness your house sounds like ours. You are probably getting a lot of smoke from the Lake and Colusa County fire, not to mention the one that started in Napa County and spread over here into Solano County. You poor thing. I was thrilled I was actually able to see stars in our sky tonight big improvement since Saturday.

My concern wasn't necessarily that DL would be in the path of a fire, but rather I was more thinking of the smoke. Last summer when we were in WDW, Florida was hit really bad with wild fires and the air quality at the World wasn't all that great.

But, seeing as I am only thinking of myself, I would like to apologize to those who live close to where the fire is raging. I hope that the areas hit get some rain ASAP and that those of you in the vicinity are able to avoid any serious harm.

quality was terrible. Seems worse today than it has been for the past week. I live in Concord. I feel terrible for all the flood victims in the mid-west. I wish we could take some of their water here. We could really use it.

Another smoky day today. The governor will be in town today to check out the situation. Hope he brings his gas mask! All outside activities have been canceled due to the extremely poor air quality ...no summer school, summer camps and worst of all...NO GOLF FOR MY HUSBAND! Maybe he'll let me buy a Wii now so he can play golf inside!

I love your suggestion DL4my2kids! Too bad there isn't a way to get some of that flood water here! We sure could use it!

The largest fire (now) in California is in Lake County. This fire is up to 14,000 acreas. This fire along with the other 100 in the Mendocino County (where I live) makes it look like we have a thick overcast in the sky, almost like it should rain any minute. Of course it won't rain, it is just thick thick gray smoke. The smell is nausiating.

This is the only time where if we were at Disneyland the air would be cleaner.

The air was terrible this morning. It hasn't been super bad so we had our windows open last night...this morning I got up and closed them because it smelled like smoke. :( Today I'm eating lunch at work because I don't want to go outside and eat in that air.

We do have blue skies here, not as blue as in HI but they are blue.
