I am very out of touch when it comes to game systems since my DS27 grew up. DD16 has never played video games with the exception of Guitar Hero with the family or friends. Over the last year however she has enjoyed playing the wii- just dance with groups of friends on game nights.

I'm thinking of getting a wii for Christmas. With the new wii coming out, I think that I could pick up the original pretty inexpensively. My question is should I be buying it now? Is Nintendo discontinuing it right away?

I don't want to spend the big bucks on the new system since it will not be used that much. She's not a gamer but has found it to be a fun way to hang out.

Also, what accessories do we need to play the wii?

Thanks!

I just read on the Black Friday thread that they (whoever they are) are predicting a $99 price point in the Wii. So you may be able to grab it cheaper.

When you are picking up the Wii, look for one wih the serial number starting with LU. The other type

Sorry, stupid phone! The other serial number, starting with KU is not compatible with plug ins, like dance mats. There are no plans to discontinue the Wii, so no need to rush out and get it.

Subbing here!

DS wants one this year. We have never had any games so i don't have a clue.

Would i be better off looking for a bundle?

Thank you so much! This is exactly the info that I was looking for. I will wait until Black Friday and look for a bundle with the LU serial number.

If you want to buy a brand new Wii, your best bet will probably be finding a special bundle for the holiday season where you get extra game(s), etc.

If you don't mind purchasing a used one, Craigslist is a great place to look if you want to save big bucks. Gamestop/EBGames (they come with a short warranty) sells used Wiis also.

I know the price of a bundle with the Wii that has dropped to $129 and comes with Wii Sports Resort.

Geez, this makes me feel really jipped for buying one back in 2008 for $250 with only Wii Sports (gasp). Then, they decided to come out with the black...ugh.

Can you pleas post a link to the source of this information?
EYA -- So i just fif some research and see that Nintendo has dropped backwards compatibility with the Game Cube systems and no longer supports the memory cards or GC controllers -- cheap buggers.
