Is something stuck in your brain or something? The PS1 had a tilt axis controller. There is nothing revolutionary about it. Sony and Microsoft both had controllers that had tilt motion sensing.

You honestly have no idea how the Wiimote works do you? :confused3

The only part that has tilt in it is the Numchuk attachment which does everything the sixaxis PS3 controller does. (six degrees of motion)

The Wiimote itself has no more tilt sensing in it than my computer does. It uses a sensor bar set on top or below the T.V. to detect pinpoints on the screen. This is what is used in FPS to aim the reticule. The PS3 controller cannot mimic sword slashes like the Wii, or aim for FPS. It is good only for controlling vehicles in games basically.

So yes, the Sixaxis does everything the Wiimote can, or at least half of it.

Wii gets a Resident Evil Exclusive as they were having to rework the controls for the Wii. Rayman Raving Rabbids used to be a multiplat game but has now since become a Wii Exclusive. Several reviews of Zelda are in, and many claim that it surpasses OoT (considered by many in the industry as the greatest game of all time) Many said they would not dare play Zelda with a gamecube controller even again, and want to use the Wiimote.

Also a history lesson. No company has been able to maintain majority of the market share for more than 2 gens. Also everytime, the weaker system always wins out.

NES was weaker, SNES was weaker, PS1 was weaker, PS2 was weaker. There were several others before that where the weaker won as well.
Another look is how the weakest handheld wins as well. All of the Gameboy iterations have beaten out technologically superior handhelds, yet are still going strong.

And the whole Bluray is a deal thing. It is still 600 dollars. There is a greater chance of HD pulling ahead of BluRay.

I also love the idea of the News Network on the Wii, as well as the Mii's, internet browser, photo and movie editor, and the Weather channel.

I also want to pipe up and say that there's a credible rumour that we may be getting a NiGHTS game on the Wii!

Sega wanted to release a NiGHTS game for the Dreamcast to work in hand with a Wii remote style control pad, but they ditched the plans when the Dreamcast started to fade.

For those who don't remember, NiGHTS RULED! It made the Saturn a good console and that's saying something; it also played a part in introducing analogue control pads to the mainstream market.

Wii got my vote but only because I already have a 360. ( GoW is awsome ) I hope to get a Wii before the end of the year, and if I don't it is ok. As for the PS3 there are no games coming out for it just yet that make we want to get one. Perhaps this time next year I will get one.

I'm no fanboy of any system I own all the last generation systems. I just enjoy playing games.

You dont seem to remember that the majority of people who play games are between the ages of 15-35. That is who sony markets too. Just because old people and 3 year olds like a game doesn't mean its fun for the whole family. Just people in those age groups. Once again the Wii is based for people who have no experience with games, i.e older people and young children. The PS3 controller is not confusing. It has 8 buttons, like many controllers before it. The Wii controller has 6 buttons and an extension chord with a joystick on it.
Look at the average age of the people that are being polled. People in there 40's and late 30's. Most of them have children between 5 and 13. Thats not the target audience for the PS3 so obviously the results will be skewed. Dont let the people being polled confuse you into thinking you are more correct.

Personally, I'm not sure you understand the true demographics of the gamer. True some of your most avid "fan-boy" gamers will meet your said target for Sony (15-35) and be primarily male. Until college age most of this age will rely on parents to finance the system. But please consider that many gamers are over the age of 35. I am 38. I grew up with video games and my husband and I consider ourselves the video game generation. I had an Odyssey in elementary school (think old-style PONG). I got the Atari 2600 in middle school and spent countless quarters in Ms. Pac Man and Space Invaders. I was one of the younger people to get into the games. So the folks who were a few years older than me playing these same systems will be in their early to mid 40s. They may or may not have children. We do not, but still love our video games--we grew up with them. We will probably get all three systems at some point (we did with the last generation consoles), but just not right now.

And a lot of those 20 and older guys most likely had Nintendo systems at one point, and will probably be drawn back in with the virtual console. Not to mention all of the Sega fans as well.

Apparently, according to previews of the game, the Sonic for the Wii will bring Sonic back to his roots and be possibly the best Sonic ever.

It is not a big game site, but the review is still cool nonetheless.http://www.gamerz-edge.com/wii/reviews/zelda1.html
There have been several reviews like this as well. I believe Gamespy gave it a 5/5. I am still waiting from IGN and Gamespot.

Oh hell yeah, it looks fantastic!

I'm an old time Sega fanboy, converted to the ranks of Nintendo (hardware-wise) following the fall of the noble Dreamcast. Why? Nintendo are a true, 100%, honest to God games company. You've a better bet of getting a decent wedge of innovative and classic games than you do with the other two major consoles.

I'm one of those mid 40 players. I got into gaming with the Atari 2600 too, gave up most of my allowance to PacMan and Centipede, got the NES and went on the hunt for magic mushrooms, got a Sega and raced around with Sonic. Then, real life intervened-college, a job, more school, more work and then I found out about Kingdom Hearts. Disney characters in a grown up video game?? Gotta get a PS2. Remembered how much fun gaming was and picked up a PSP for trips. Watched the 360 insanity last fall, got a look at it at a friend's house and picked one up this spring. My current favorite game is Lego Star Wars-totally hilarious. I ended up buying a copy for the PSP so I don't have to leave it behind when I visit the folks for the holidays!
The gaming industry is starting to take notice of us "old fogies". We grew up with games and loved them. I think Wii will probably bring people back to gaming who haven't played since they were teenagers.
The only way I would spring for a PS3 is if Kingdom Hearts 3 only comes out for that platform.

PS1 tilt controller. Microsoft PC Controller. You can use the tilt controller pretty well with FPS games.
PS3 also has a RE game coming out for it. I have never liked adventure games so Zelda is nothing to me. I already have my computer with 100+ Genesis games. Playing the old games from the 90's is pretty much a gimmick, like backwards compatibility. When the system first comes out its great because you can play your old games on your new system but after some good titles for the actual system come out its pretty much useless.

The Genesis was a much better system than SNES was. The PS1 and PS2 were only weaker because they came out before Nintendo released there systems. Now that they are getting released at the same time it will be much different.

I went to Target today to play the PS3. It looked amazing, extremely detailed. However ithey had controllers with chords, probably so nobody could steal the controller. After I played the PS3 I tried looking around at some places to play a Wii but no place had it. Ill try another couple of EB games tomorrow and hopefully find one with a Wii.

For some reason you keep mixing up Play Station 1 and Play Station 3. The original Play Station, as well as the PS2 never had any kind of tilt control. the PS3 is the only one that has anything like it, it's called sixaxis motion sensing. But unlike the Wii which actually uses a multituide of sensors, the PS3 has it built into it's controller. here's an article from Cnet about it:

However, you do get something called SixAxis motion sensing, which means the controller's capable of sensing motion in six directions: up, down, left, right, forward, and backward. Game developers have incorporated it many of the new games in one form or another. For example, in 2K Sports' NHL 2K7, a quick thrust of the controller makes your defensive player perform a check. In Tony Hawk's Project 8, you can steer your skater and control his movements by tilting the controller from side to side and forward and back. Sony's NBA '07 also makes interesting use of the tilt feature, allowing you to control a player's moves and jukes on offense.

To be sure, some implementations of the tilt sensitivity are better than others. Furthermore, it's unclear if all the games that utilize motion sensitivity will require it--some are optional and can be switched off, and we could certainly see some folks not wanting to bother with them at all. Clearly, Sony wanted to steal some of Nintendo's thunder, and there's no denying that the Wii's motion-sensitive controllers are more central to that console's DNA. The Wii controllers are also more sophisticated, including the ability to measure actual motion (spatial movement) and acceleration, rather than just tilting--but unlike the Wii, the PS3 doesn't require a motion-sensor bar in front of the TV. (The current Xbox 360 controllers offer no motion sensitivity at all.) It's safe to say we'll see more innovative uses of the tilting sensitivity feature in future games--it definitely added an extra level of control when flying the eponymous attack vehicle in Warhawk (we played an early build at E3 2006, but the game isn't due until sometime in 2007).

The Sony was only added later on, after Wii made their big announcement, and the result is a watered down imitation that only works on some games in an OK manner at best.

I watched the video, and there was a third-party controller released for PS1 featuring tilt technology. I assume the tilt technology used in that controller is similar to the technology found in games such as WarioWare Twisted (which had tilt sensor stuff built into the cart). I would except the PS3 version of that to be a bit more advanced, and then the Wii controller to be more advanced than that (with it's pointing capabilities and such).

Anyway, I'm psyched for the Wii this weekend! I bought 2/3 of my launch titles today (Monkey Ball and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance).

yay Atari 2600!!

That's what first got me hooked. Well, actually, we had a pong game first.
I'm 37. :)

I know I already responded in this thread, but I couldn't answer the question. We'll eventually have all 3. But I hardly get to play the 360 because my DFi is either playing it or watching that TV. Most of the games I play are on my PC.

We just got the HD DVD player for the 360. Not sure if FI hooked it up yet.
When we get the PS3 we'll have the blue ray technology, so we'll be covered whichever way the industry goes.

Actually there was one released, but I believe it was a third party controller.

Also, why is it at E3 2006, even the top developers such as Kojima (metal gear) didn't even know of the controller and were as shocked as the crowd. It was obvious they did it to steal Nintendo's thunder like the article states.

Ok, my take....

First the poll doesn't show all the options, I plan to buy both the Nintendo Wii and a PS3.

I prefer the games that are made for Playstation (Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, others) over the XBox 360 and if you add up the cost of a 360 plus it's new HD-DVD drive, it comes out to.....$600, or the same you'd pay for a PS3.

As for HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray....Blu-Ray already has many more studios backing it than HD-DVD does and I don't know of any HD-DVD players alone that are less than $600 right now anyway...so what's the advantage?

Anyway, I also think that there's a very good chance that BOTH formats could fail....I mean, DVD sales didn't surpass VHS sales until 2003...and we all know how huge of a quality difference that was. This is not going to be a huge quality difference to the average person.

People complain about the $600 price tag as if it's unheardof in the world of gaming, but the Neo-Geo and 3DO game systems were both $600 back in the early 1990's (counting inflation and thats much more expensive in todays $)....yes they both failed, but they had no previous supporters and no other capabilities than to play games really.

Also, PS3's online service will be FREE, unlike XBox Live...and I hope that Sony actually does something with online play this time.

I'm so glad ps3 came out. Now Ps2 and its games are going to drop in price like a rock and I can get one. And my Play Station is starting to show signs of giving up the ship.

My favorite games are the Civilization Series.
I also like RTS diety combat type games like Age of Empires.
Those lend themselves more to the computer than to the boxes. So I probably won't be getting either of the new boxes this year.

Just want to say HI to all the "old fogies" hobbling around on this thread. Almost 42 here!:lmao:

You are not a "gamer" if you don't play Zelda in my book.:rotfl:
Really...I do NOT consider you a gamer if you do NOT have all 3 systems.
Currently I have the GC, PS2, & XBOX.....I play the PS2 more because I am playing Dragon Quest.
When I get the Wii, I will be playing Zelda.
I played "Fable" on XBOX...and just haven't gotten anything since.

Oh I am so close to being a gamer! :rotfl:

I play Zelda, and I have a GC and a PS2 (though the PS2 didn't get much use)

Savy bunch of gamers here:sunny: just thought I'd check back in...

not only do I have a wii lined up @ TRU but, middle DS talked me into a reconditioned XBox 360 @ EB games last night.;)

Never knew they sold used equipment, anyway got it for 1/2 price, then added on a 2 year warranty that allows it to be brought back to store within 2 years for replacement if it malfunctions.

Might be the way to go for others on a budget...good luck.

Wii are looking forward to Super Smash Bros. Brawl the most (My brother and I). But that doesn't come out until next year. :sad2:

The game I'm going to get first will be Red Steel, followed by Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. :thumbsup2

EDIT: Once I get the Wii of course. :thumbsup2

Sounds like we are very similar in our gaming. I didn't remember playing much in HS, but it was so cool to hang out at the boy's dorms playing the NES in college. There was a great documentary on CNBC last night on gaming--unfortunately the mega thunderstorms came through and I didn't get to watch all of it; it might get replayed though.

We got our GameCube for the nostalgia value since hubby and I loved the classic NES games from college. Got the XBox so we could play Balder's Gate. Then got the PS2 for Champions of Norath. We love the 2 player co-op RPGs. Honestly, our next system will end up being the one that introduces the "gotta play" RPG.

We played the first Lego Star Wars and will be getting the recent release very soon. I plan to take my Nintendo DS "home for the holidays" with Harvest Moon and Yoshi Touch N Go. We may be "older" but I bet we have some fantastic hand-eye coordination!

Oh, there was a line at the local Target this morning. Bet I can guess what for!
