Wii, PS3, or 360?

What will you choose?

  • Wii

  • PS3

  • XBox 360

  • Next wha . . .?

One of the best things about the Wii is the fact that you are only paying for one thing - A game machine. Nintendo correctly realizes that most people already have a computer to go online with, and a DVD player to watch movies on, so why charge half a grand to give you duplicates of what you already have?
Now, the Wii will offer a internet like connection for legaly downloading many of nintendos older classics (yes I know that xbox and PS can be modified to do that, but it isn't legal), plus the Nintendo will have compatibility with all of the Gamecube games. (I doubt they will have any compatibility problems like the PS)
But most of all the Wii will give you the only true real life controller that moves as you do. Sony desperately tried to imitate this at the last minute, and the results have been pretty bad. (Just spend a little time on a video game board to read up on the various reviews).
The Wii also has some of the best games for younger children, plus they are now reaching out to a much greater fan base by offering titles to induce all sorts of adults to play (band leading, painting, IQ boosters, etc...) as well as nintendos unmatched characters - Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, etc...
All in all, the Wii is a package that can not be touched. Pricewise they are by far the most affordable, the new controler is unique and groundbreaking, they have the greatest appeal to the most people, and they have the most recognizable characters in all of the gaming world. The only area where the Wii is not the best is for hard-core gamers who want the best graphics (which does not necessarily mean the best game play), and are willing to pay A LOT more for it.

I voted for the Wii for DS. He has a pre-order and is #9 on the list, but rumor has it only two will be coming in the first shipment. :( I guess we will just have to wait and see on Sunday.

I am not a big "game system" fan, but I will have to asmit, I am a bit excited to try this out. I saw the system in NYC at the Nintendo store a few weeks ago.

PS3. It has the most potential out of all the systems. It can have games like Wii Sports, and FPS like Gears of War. Plus it is backwards compatible with the older playstation models. Considering what you get with the PS3 it is very much worth the price. You get a blue ray disk player, which alone costs $1,000 plus a Wii like system. Once sony can get the backwards compatibiility bug fixed, the PS3 will be awesome.

wow that is the exact same logic that dbf used on me last night to justify preordering ps3. He says it is pretty much like saving money because of the blue ray disk player alone. But go figure he has all three of the systems in this poll already and I'm stuck with my little ole ps2 lol!

I want a Wii for Christmas. I can't wait to play the new Zelda game!

I must disagree.

Blue-Ray will crash and burn horribly if HD takes off.

X360 and Wii are also backwards compatible.

PS3 is just a very powerful version of X360 (ie, a graphics upgrade). It's been a huge flop for gamers worldwide. Sony will probably bounce back with their next console, but it is the Wii that is taking gaming to the next level at this point, rather than focusing on a graphics upgrade.

Wii has the most potential.

Amen...You get to hold the controller one handed for sword fighting. Should be interesting for us old fogy's...forcing us into the "virtual" gaming.
:lmao:

Boo PS3, it's an expensive waffle iron.

Wii is my fave, although I own a 360 and like it a fair bit.

The Wii will be able to play DVD's. The reason there is a slight problem with backwards compatability is because of the disk reader for the PS3 is meant for reading blue ray disks but Sony is already working on patches to fix the problem. Sony did use tilt controllers with its PS1 and it will work just as well as the Wii controller. The PS3 controller wont have vibration but Im sure a 3rd party company will create a controller with vibration. The Wii does not have the greatest appeal to most consumers. If that was the case the gamecube would have done much better than it did.

Blue ray uses HD. The PS3 is backwards compatible with games all the way back to PS1. PS3 is not just a graphical upgrade to the 360 it is an entirely unique and different system. PS3 will not flop, I gurantee 90% of the PS3 in America will be sold by Midnight on release day.

The Sony's tilt controler is a joke compared to the Wii's controler. The PS3 controler is a last second add on after seeing what the Wii has done. At best it gets mixed reviews. Most of the reviews complain that it only works part of the time, and even then it is very limited. The Wii has built it's whole system around the ability of it's contoler, and almost all of it's new games will take full advantage of this new controller.

There has never been a character in the history of the gaming world as popular as Mario, not too mention Donkey Kong, Link, Pokemon characters, etc... The Gamecube was not marketed very well, it wasn't backward capable, and it wasn't that powerful (without offering any extra special features), yet still it has survived when many thought it wouldn't. NOW, things have changed. The Wii is going to become the standard by which all new systems are measured. The PS3 will have it's loyal supporters, but that won't last long. After all who wants to spend a fortue on a system that pretty much appeals to one group when you can have a much better, much more fun system that appeals to the whole family.
If you want to argue graphics, I respectively give you the victory, the PS3 does have better grapics. BUT, if you want to argue anything else, the Wii wins hands down. Better price, better appeal to all members of the family, more fun games, better characters (after all who can compete with Mario), and the ability to legaly play so many of the past nintendo classics.
The Wii is taking the market by storm, and all other systems are either going to have to adapt or be left behind.

The Wii controller does use motion controller much better than the PS3. It wasn't a last second add on to compete with Nintendo. Nintendo took the idea of having a tilt motion controller from Sony. Many PS3 games are taking advantage of the tilt motion.
You continue to talk about all these memorable characters that are from Nintendo. Yes everyone knows about them but not everyone likes them. Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, and Pokemon are all extremely boring games geared towards children. Not many 15-35 year old men will want to play games like that. The Wii is not geared toward familys, it is geared to children. Family fun doe not mean the entire family will enjoy it, it means it is suitable for children to play.
The Wii is not going to be the standard to measure all gaming systems. There is nothing about the Wii that is revolutionary. The playstation fan base is much stronger than the nintendo fan base. People started to line up last thursday to get ahold of a PS3, no one has started to line up for a Wii. Sony will continue to hold the lead for gaming systems. The PS3 does not appeal to only 1 type of audience. PS2 had many games that were geared towards children. Katamari Damacy is just one game that is liked by many many people. The PS3 will have so many companies putting out different types of games that there will always be games geared for the younger crowd.
The PS3 has better graphics, will have better games, has a much greater value, games that will appeal to everyone in the family. The PS3 is everything people want in a game system at the moment and Sony will continue to be the leading game system maker.

Is that how you measure success???

So the PS3 has already PREsold about half of their 200k units slated for US release, that leaves about 100K. Sony is said to lose money per box, a kinda cell phone free with PAID service stratagy(software/access equals profit).

Nintendo is shipping well over a million for release day, and actually makes a profit on each unit.

So by your logic if Nintendo sells 800k units on day 1 and Sony sells 200k, Sony should still be considered the winner.

PS3 - no question. I've had the chance to play with it already at some events in NYC. The graphics are so amazing!

Oh and dont get me started on all those "LOYAL SONY FANS" that line up a week ahead of time, because we all know that none of those units will end up on EBAY...

I'm going for the XBOX360 this year.

DS(10) wants to Wii but talked himself out of it this week and instead wants the 360 - thank goodness, I really wasn't looking forward to camping out this weekend anyway.

PS3 is just too pricey right now but we will eventually get one.

I have a PS2, I play Japanese RPG's and don't give a hoot about graphics or online.:confused3 I play one game a year when I do play. I also do not play 1st person shooter, sports, racing, etc...
I am 41 and I play Mario and the gang WITH my kids. Oh and alone. There are many fun games on Nintendo.

Now if the PS3 was in the 200 range...ok now I will bite. I don't play enough to warrant the cost. KWIM?

Last year when Nintendo announce their new system, nobody knew what the REVOLUTION was gong to offer that had NEVER BEEN OFFERED BEFORE. When nintendo announced their controller it caught everyone off guard (especially Sony who had already begun production on their own PS3 system). At first nobody took it too seriously, least of all Sony who kept working on their own system. Later, as the Revolution started getting more publicity, the controler started becoming more popular. By the time Nintendo changed the name of the Revolution to the Wii, and plans were being made for the E3, suddenly Sony announced a change in its controler, a Wii like system that would allow a few games limited multi-range capablility (but not nearly as good or as flexible as the Wii). Since that time the Sony controler has been considered a joke by most of the major video game review boards. It can't decide if it wants to be a XBox controller or a Wii controller, so instead it's stuck somewhere in the middle.

Now, as for nobody LIKING Nintendo's characters, get real. They are only the most popular, and best selling video game characters on this little place we like to call Earth. If you think Mario is only for kids you need to get out of your house more often. And as for Link, it is selling mostly to young adults (the same one's you said would never want it, sorry, but the numbers don't agree with you)

And please don't even try to compare Sony to Nintendo when it comes to kids games. Sony is basing the majority of it's sales (very expensive sales) to one target - hard core gamers. Nintendo has traditionally been known as the most kid friendly system, and now they are expanding that to reach all levels of fans. The only fan base that will stick with the PS3 are again, the hard core gamers (at least the ones who don't go with XBOX). One of the biggest attractions of the Wii is the ability of any player (even my wife for example who doesn't like to play video games) to pick up the Wii's new controller and very quickly be good at playing whatever game. With the PS3 if you haven't grown up with a video game system, it will not be comfortable enough for the average person get the hang of quick enough to want to keep playing.

Does Sony have better grapics? Again, yes they do (although if I want the best graphics I'll stick to my PC), but as even you can see with this simple little poll, the Wii is going to kick Sony's backside all over the place. Don't mistake Sony's limited quanties for better sales.
