Convience me why I should get one over the other? I like the concept of the Kinect not have to hold the remote and the fact it has the disneyland game, but the Wii is MUCH cheaper. If you have either, or both, would you mind sharing your pros and cons and what you would have done differently?

typical answer is younger kids wii, older kids / adults xbox
kinect by itself doesn't have a lot of games [yet]

It would be for DH and me and occassionally our 5yr nephew. The lack of games if what i was afraid of. I desipe games that have the joy stick controller thing.

We have both systems.
For us, it is the opposite. DD(5) does much better with the Kinect and is much more interested in it, and I don't have to worry about the possibility of her accidently throwing the controller through the tv screen. DD just isn't that good with the controller buttons yet, so it is much easier for her not to deal with it. Plus, as a little kid, she can play the same game over and over and over and still love it every time. Now as far as using the Xbox with the controller, I completely agree that is pretty much only for older kids. Outside of the Kinect, I don't think the Xbox would ever be used by her. (Actually, none of us really use the Xbox outside of the Kinect).

As far as for adults, I think it would be depend on how serious of a gamer you are. Judging from your statement that you despise the "joystick controller thing", I am guessing a Wii would be more your speed. DH and I are not serious gamers (at least not since the Super Nintendo days)- the Wii has a lot more variety of games that we find fun and that we are capable of doing. Xbox- is more hard core- realistic looking characters, war games, fighting games; real sports games, complex games. As far as the Kinect, we love it and it is more our speed, but there just aren't enough games for it yet (and enough games that work well with the sensors), that we would get more use out of it than the Wii. It is fun, but it is also physical- jumping, dancing, exercise etc. Great, but sometimes you just want to grab a controller and sit down and play an old fashioned video game. We will have had the X-box a year in January, and I still don't know how to work that controller! I don't have any issues with the Wii controller.

We have owned a Wii for 3 years and the choice for it over xbox at that time was I haven't been able to figure out a controller past super nintendo and even then the top buttons were difficult for me to master. :confused3 DH was a pro on the playstation 2, but with the addition of a little one into the house the Wii seemed to be the best choice. Now with the kinect and the Disneyland game we have purchased an xbox for Christmas. It seems the kinect is attracting more of a younger crowd of kids and it's a system they can continue to enjoy as their skill levels increase. I agree that the Wii seems to have more of a variety of games, especially for younger kids and the wii fit and balance board are still fun to play with the games available for it. DH is very excited about our xbox purchase, because he was more of a serious gamer pre kid.

One thing to keep in mind is that nintendo is said to be releasing an entire new gaming system next year. Previously when nintendo releases a new system that means production of new games for the older systems stop and are only available for the new system. I never was happy that I couldn't use my super nintendo cartridges on my nintendo 64 and then 64 with the Wii, and if history repeats itself the Wii and it's games will go the way of these other systems. With the Wii using a disc instead of the cartridges hopefully they will follow in playstation's path and allow this upcoming new system to accept the Wii games, but you never know. Personally until I know for sure that the new nintendo system would accept Wii games, I would be hesitant to buy the Wii. I wouldn't want to spend any money on a new gaming system and less than a year later find out no new titles will be available. This was another major reason for our purchase of an Xbox 360. Well that and the Disneyland game, honestly that was reason enough to buy the xbox w/ kinect for us.

i have all the systems and for me the kinect is the way to go. my wife used to use the wii but when i got kinect for xmas last year she realized how much she didnt like the wii. i have not used the wii in years.

But with gaming systems the real deciders are how much you are willing to spend, not wanting to, because obviously you will want to spend less. we are on the Budget Boards for a reason. And which system has the games you actually want to play.

if one system has more "hardcore" games but it also is the only system that has games that you actually want to play then that may be the system you should get.

Worry more about what each will offer you instead of what it doesnt offer to other people

Nevermind...I am confusing the Disney Universe game for the Disneyland game.
