use it to rent a suite.
for instance her first time to go to disney world was on our honeymoon where we stayed in the wilderness lodge honeymoon suite, she wants to know if we would be able to use our points to stay in that suit if we wanted

The best use of points in to use in DVC resorts. If you book other Disney hotels the point cost is very high and has a $95 booking fee.

For example you can pay $95 and use 49 points for a room(not suite) at the Poly(garden view) or get a 2 bedroom(that sleeps 8) at the Beach Club for a day in May 2011.

Even if you wanted to book with points if there is a DVC attached to the resort you cannot book the hotel with points just the DVC portion.

you can not use pts for a stay at any disney resort attached to a dvc resort.
EXample BWI/BWV,YC/BC--BCV, WL/VWL, you can use at GF, Poly, moderates. It's very expensive to do this.:)

i don't get it... lol
we are buying a DVC at the wilderness lodge... if we save say 300 points can we or can we not stay in a Wilderness lodge suite???

i have only been on here a few days so i have yet to understand all the abbreviations:)

No, DVC members cannot use DVC points to reserve at Wilderness Lodge (WL), Beach Club (BC), Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL), Contemporary Resort (CR) or Boardwalk Inn (BWI) since those resorts also include a DVC resort as a component.

Here is a link to commonly used acronyms used here on the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Forums on this site.

I hope this helps.

You could stay at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge but not in the Wilderness Lodge.

Look at this link

If you notice there is a DVC portion and the WL

For two people a one bedroom boardwalk view villa at the BWV or a one bedroom at the BLT with a Magic Kingdom or lake view is as nice and most likely nicer than almost any suite at WDW. You just won't get chocolate on your pillow at night.

A 1 Bedroom villa is very romantic... at Wilderness Lodge Villas you have a nice garden Jacuzzi tub with an opening to the master bedroom.

Sorry, they aren't even close to the suites. The suites at the Contemporary and the suites at the Boardwalk have those views - plus the rooms are truly spectacular.

Very important distinction: you're not buying a DVC membership at Wilderness Lodge (WL). You're buying at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge (VWL), which is a separate resort that's next door to Wilderness Lodge, and shares facilities (restaurants, pools, recreation) with Wilderness Lodge.

You can use your points to stay in the VWL building, in studios, 1-bedroom villas, or 2-bedroom villas. You cannot use points to stay in any room or suite in the WL building.

The rule is, you can use points at DVC resorts, but not at the hotel portion of a resort that's associated with a DVC resort.

So, you can use points at the Beach Club Villas (BCV), but not at the Beach Club Resort (BC). You can use points at Bay Lake Towers (BLT), but not at the Contemporary Resort (CR). You can use points at the Boardwalk Villas (BWV), but not at the Boardwalk Inn (BWI). You can use points at Animal Kingdom Villas (AKV), but not at Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL).

Now, as members we can also exchange out of the DVC system to use points at GF, Poly, YC and the moderates, but you will pay a $95 exchange fee, and the point costs are going to be several times what it costs to stay in a DVC resort. It may be possible to use points to pay for a suite at, say, GF, but given that it's something like 60 points a night to stay in the cheapest room at GF, I can't imagine what a suite would cost.

I agree a 1br VWL villa is much better than the honeymoom suites at WL.

Crisi,
What makes these rooms spectacular? I've never seen pics of them. Just wondering:cutie:

I stayed in a Honeymoon Suite at Beach Club, long before Beach Club Villas was built. It was nice, but I love the "Home" Feeling we get from the villas!

Joshua:

I *think* the answer is "you can't." But, even if that's not the answer, the answer is "you shouldn't." There is a large amount of friction in using DVC points for non-DVC but Disney-owned lodging, and it is never cost effective.

My advice: rent points for a 1BR stay in one of the resorts that is most attractive to you. See how you like that compared to the suite experience, and go from there. Also, be honest with yourself about how often you'd stay in that suite again, vs. a regular room. You can always pay cash for that suite for "special occasion" trips if you like, and as long as you would do it only infrequently, DVC could still work out for you.

I have found all the resorts we stayed at to be beautiful and having a 1 or 2 bedroom is like having a suite but better you can have all the convience you want having all the perks w/d,kitchen etc and if you want you can not choose to use them. But it is the best vacation by far.....sometimes you just want to stay in and chill....
