I have struggled with acne since I was about 10 years old. I've done just about everything, including the dermatologist, but nothing really cleared it up completely. Pro Activ seemed to work at first, but then it seemed to stop working. Anyway, I was reading the newspaper, and there's a column called The People's Pharmacy. A woman wrote in about her teenage son who had horrible cystic acne, and they spent thousands of dollars on treatment with no results.
Then he tried Milk of Magnesia, and his skin never looked better. Huh! I certainly had nothing to lose, so I bought a huge bottle of it (only $3.99!) and I daresay I think it's working! I've only used it for a week and a half, but my skin seems really soft and I don't seem to have any new acne. I'm not saying it's a miracle cure yet, but I thought I might pass that idea on just in case it might work for anyone else. It sure is a cheap alternative to any other acne treatment I've tried!

**Ok- re-reading this, I realize that I sound like a total infomercial, or a sales rep for Milk of Magnesia. I'm really not.

Do you put it on over night, or during the day too?

I was having a discussion with coworkers recently about deodorant. One of them said she knows a couple who use Milk of Magnesia instead of traditional deodorants.

I have been using MOM to control my excessively oily face for about 2 years now. It absorbs the oil, and keeps my makeup on my face all day. And yes, when I do have breakouts, it helps dry the spots up and heal them more quickly. I put on a thin film after washing my face, then after it dries I apply a thin layer of primer, then my mineral makeup.

My grandma was diabetic, and was bedridden in the months before she passed away. The home health workers used MOM on contact points on her skin to heal them before they became full-blown bedsores.

This is really interesting! I too have tried everything- The one thing that works really scares me for medical purposes-

This is a cream? Do you put it all over your face or just trouble spots?

I read sometime ago that Christina Aguilera used MOM on her face she has oily skin and acne

I've heard this works well. And what point do you use moisturizer, before or after the MOM.

I've used this for years. MOM absorbs oil and can used also as a quick mask (rinse it off after it dries) or it can be left on or worn unde rmakeup (very thin layer).

Would this work on someone with dry skin? I have occasional breakouts, but my skin is dry, not oily.

Another treatment I have heard about is an aspirin mask. Aspirin is very similar to salicylic acid. Which is the active ingredient in a lot of acne treatments. So, you put 8 aspirin tablets in a bowl with a few drops of water. Add honey or aloe vera to the dissolved aspirin and mix. Apply to your face. Wash off after 15 minutes. This leaves my skin so soft and smooth. I use it only once a week.

I'm going to buy this later today for DD. Her face is awful since she's entered puberty. We've tried everything I can think of and because she's 11, she doesn't care as much yet as we do for her, so she's not really good about keeping up with Proactive. That seems to work if I could just get her to wash her face more than once a day. UGH!

What I learn on the Dis!?!?! ;)

How wonderful something so reasonably priced could be the answer/cure for so many! Good luck! :goodvibes

How funny! It works for diaper rash. Never thought of acne.

I put it on with a cotton ball (actually, a round cotton circle, because the mouth of the bottle is so wide) at night after I was my face. I sleep with it on and then wash it off in the morning before I put on my makeup. It's a thick liquid- make sure to shake up the bottle before you put it on.

Kycha- I would be careful about using it with dry skin, because it does have a very drying, "tight" feel when you first put it on.

I'm going to try this! I will post back in a couple of weeks!

This really does work! My Mother has been using this for years. She does it a little differently, though. She will put about 2oz of MOM in a cup and put it to the side for a day or so. She then pours off the "liquid" at the top and uses the thick paste left behind for everything from burns, to acne, to excema.

Thanks emer95...maybe I could use it as a spot treatment rather than an allover face mask.

This is another great idea! I'll try this on my DS. He actually cares about his skin since he turned 13. He only has a few pimples, DD has pimples and blackheads.

Ok- I went to buy it, but chickened out b/c it was in the laxatives aisle- This is the right stuff, correct?

I'm going to have to get this as well. DD has terribly oily skin and DH still breaks out at the age of 45.

Thank you, OP. Hopefully, this will work for us.
