Why would you get paper tickets?

Ok reading another thread, I'm pretty confused! It was about split stays and getting tickets attached to this or that res... Why would anyone want or get paper tickets now?

I ask because I'm considering doing a DVC rental... and buying the tix thru Disney, linking the DVC and tix to my MDE.

** I would then be sent magic bands -- right??

In what cases would Disney instead give you tickets, or worse, make you pick up tickets at guest relations? That sounds awful. Last thing I want to be doing is picking up my park tickets... I'd so rather have them simply ready to go and all linked to my bands in hand when I go check in.

I would never want to be carrying tickets around with me again... Magic Bands were so insanely convenient.

AP likely won't help us here... because we're not renting a room thru Disney, the 30% savings for AP is moot.

All tickets are now on flat plastic cards with internal RFID chips.

In my opinion, MB are far from being "insanely convenient."
But, if you like them, have at it.

Huh? Was this post inflamatory? I wasn't calling anyone out, and certainly have no objection someone else wanting something. I'm asking seriously why the two types are there, and what cases would cause ppl to get one type or the other.

People staying offsite aren't given a MB (but have the option to purchase one) so a lot of them prefer to just use the RFID ticket instead. I have a couple of MB but don't like them and often use my AP to enter and for FP+. My Gammy had an issue last trip where her AP kept unlinking itself from her MB so she needed her ticket to prove she did have valid admission.

Personally, I really dislike the Magic Bands. We have AP's and much prefer using the cards rather than a Magic Band. We don't wear them, they are usually in our bag.

I don't think you'd get sent new magic bands. But if you already have them just link your new tickets to your MDE account and use the exisiting bands which are linked to the account.

The OP will be given the option to customize new bands once her reservation and tickets are linked; they'll also be able to use their existing ones.

1. I like the cards. They're cute
2. We stay offsite & I'm not paying an extra $50 for rubber bracelets that aren't necessary.
3. My kids wouldn't wear them
4. We already have to show our DAS so it's no big deal to pull out the tickets.
5. If I have all the tickets, nobody is going to lose theirs.

Yes, you would get Magic Bands with a DVC rental reservation.

No matter what method you use to buy your tickets (through Disney, Undercover Tourist, AAA, etc.) you can link your tickets to your MDE account either through the Disney confirmation number or the ticket number on the barcode.

Some people, like those in this thread would rather use tickets. So having physical tickets is worth it to them. I'm taking extended family next month and will have their physical tickets with me in case anything goes wrong with their Magic Bands.

Disney isn't forcing anyone to use physical tickets, even those who are sent physical tickets.

Magic Bands do the following:

• Allow you to tap the tapstile to get in the park.....Plastic Cards (PC) do this too.
• Allow you to tap the FP entry posts....PC do this too.
• Open your resort room door....We usually stay at the S/D so MB doesn't help me.
• Allow you to access your DP credits at the cash register....We never get the DP.
• Have to be worn by each member of the party....No one in my family likes wearing plastic bands.

For us, the only functionality of the MB is to get into the park and to get past the FP post. That's it. PCs do this very well and are invisible when they are in my pocket. They don't cause my wrist to sweat and I don't have to worry about anyone in my family losing theirs. None of this is a criticism of MBs, but hopefully it does provide insight as to why some people see no need for them and prefer flat, invisible, easy to store cards with Mickey, Minnie and Donald on them. Oh. And one other thing. We buy our passes from UT to save money and they send you the RFID PCs. So by using PCs, we reap a savings. Yes, we could "convert" them to MBs. But haven't found the need.

When we did DVC rental recently we ordered our tickets from Disney and they sent us physical tickets (RFID). We then linked the tickets to our reservation in MDE and were given the option to customize our magic bands. We didn't try it, but I'm sure we could have used the RFID cards instead of the magic band if we wanted to.

Ok so it's mainly ppl who stay offsite and do not get a resort to link up... in those cases you'd have to buy the magic bands...
Or, people who want the cards because they're keepsakes to them.

This was always a concern, that our kids might lose a band.

Another reason is I have an annual pass linked to my band and buy a package with free dining I do not want the 2 day ticket on my band because I do not want it to be accidentally activated/used/ I know you can prioritize so that is shouldn't pull those tickets but with all of the glitches that seem to occur I would just rather eliminate that possibility. That way I can save those tickets untouched for a future visit or even link them to someone else.

We always carry our plastic tickets with us. I don't trust the MBs to work, and when they fail going to CS at the gate would be hugely, hugely inconvenient. It has already save us one time when the MB did not work despite the face our tickets were linked.

I still cringe at the debacle at AK recently when many, many MBs were not working and the lines to CS were so long they had to lay down masking tape to set out the line (remember, that's when they sold water to those waiting to get their MB accounts fixed?).

Anyway, it's a shame they don't have paper tickets any more for FP, because if your MB doesn't work you're out of luck. If that happens, oh well, move on and enjoy the rest of the park. But for admission tickets I'm so happy we can carry the ticket physically so we're not worried about getting in at the gate. It's not inconvenient to carry the ticket, and we're not anxious about getting in.

I don't have an opinion on this, but I'm chiming in to ask a related question: When a guest checks in at their Disney resort, may they ask for the plastic cards to carry as a back up, and perhaps use them interchangeably throughout the trip?

Yes.
If not available at check-in, ask at the concierge desk.
If not there, ask at any ticket booth or guest relations.

Well, Magic Bands are convenient, unless you have park days or fun options left. Then Magic Bands are very inconvenient! We always seem to have park or fun admissions left over. I kept paper tickets in a vacation wallet, its was easy for me to see what I had. Magic bands take up a lot more room to store, and I think it will be easy to forget about park days or fun visits that are left over, I guess the info is in MDE (somewhere) but I'd rather have tickets to keep it all straight.

Right now I have 2-1 day MK "tickets" that didn't get used on our last vacation. And 5-no expire 7 day hoppers paper tickets with fun visits; all the park days have been used but there are 11 fun visits left - that is a lot of water park days!

I linked up one of the old park hoppers to MDE because I thought there should be 2 park days left, after checking it out I was told there were no park days remaining, however the leftover fun visits don't show up in MDE, although the person helping me could see them. Luckily I kept track in pen on our paper tickets.

Sounds like you already had MBs. You can take those back if you liked the color, and you will be able to make new MBs as well. Do a different color this time for fun!

It's all linked to your MDE, so they should all work interchangeably (unless there's a glitch).
