My DD told me yesterday that for a month or so she has been having hot flashes. Of course, she told me this late on a Friday afternoon when there is nothing I can do until Monday.

Please tell me if you have any ideas. I suppose hormonies but hot flashes in a 16 year old girl?

I would take her to a gynecologist to get checked out.Or to her regular physician. This could be a sign of other problems.Or maybe nothing at all.
Just get her checked to be sure.

It could be hormones, but it could also be several things, some more serious than others. I'd make an appointment with her doctor. Good luck!

Hot flashes are a hormonal thing. Also make sure she is eating well. I remember when I was a teen not eating the best, I would get hot flashes when my blood sugar was too low.

She and I both had a nasty URI about three weeks ago that lasted for around ten days and took 4 Rocepherin shots each to get over. She seems to be pretty much over it now except for a little lingering cough very occasionally.

Singing?

Ask her how her periods have been the last few months, are they the same or have they changed? When does she get the hot flashes, resting or active? Also, does she feel stressed out when they happen? It could be she is having anxiety attacks.

I intend to call our family doctor Monday morning but I tend to worry about this child since she was so ill two years ago.

As far as I know her periods are as usual.

Yesterday she had a day off school and we were doing some casual shopping when she had one. Just shopping, in an AC store. She became a little flushed and told me what had been going on. She said she felt as if someone had lite a fire in her. It passes in a couple of minutes.

The reason I mentioned anxiety attacks, is that a friend of mine was having them and she would get hot flashes. It would come out of the blue without any warning. I actually saw it happen. She would be sitting there fine talking one minute and the next you would see her flushed and sweating.

Strange but I was treated for an URI in August with an antibiotic (oral Levaquin, I don't know why they would give 3 shots) and a couple of weeks later I was getting hot flashes. They were worse then the real hot flashes I haven't had in years. They lasted for about 3 weeks. Maybe it is the type of bacteria or it as viral...It was very uncomfortable and started after the infection was past. I suspected it was the medication but will never know I guess, just glad it stopped.

An anxiety attack was my 1st thought as well.

If the hot flashes aren't hormonal, then her body is probably trying to fight off something (although as said in other post, low blood sugar and/or anxiety attacks can feel like hot flashes). Since she was just treated with antibiotics, she might have a yeast infection.

I had some CRAZY hot flashes (I'm in my late 20s) a year or two ago, when I tried a new multivitamin with iron after being diagnosed as anemic. My doctor thought it was a hormonal reaction to something binding the multivitamin. I switched to an iron-only supplement and was fine. And I've always been fine with other multivitamins.

I had them when I had walking pneumonia so that is something to look into but I also get them when I have anxiety attacks. The strangest thing is it tends to happen most often when i am just relaxing sitting around the house or when I am out at a store. Anxiety attacks can be sparked by something subconscious so she doesn't have to be in an uncomfortable situation to have them.

DD (now 19) has been having hot flashes off and on for about four years. She also has issues with low blood sugar. Our doctor told us that it is a hormone thing and will eventually pass.
