I think he is realistic. It is a mess in Afghanistan and if all of the rhetoric is true that AL Queda was hoping that Obama wins the election it only makes sense that they will test him and his response. I think he just said what others have only thought.

Maybe because he thinks it is true? Obama is a young, unknown and untested politician. Some rogue nation may want to see what they can get away with. If he responds in a forceful, direct manor then he can show other countries not to screw with us. If he's another Jimmy Carter, well....

To me it seems like he is saying that they realize that Obama doesn't have a whole lot of international experience, and that they think that foreign entities (not just terrorist sects I'm sure) will try and see what they can get away with, but they are prepared for that.

Would you rather they live in denial then not be ready if (when?) something happens?

It's safe to assume two things, I think -

The next President, no matter who it is, will have an International Crisis early in his Presidency. I think it's also safe to assume that domestically, we will appear to be "getting well" very quickly - especially if Senator Obama is elected. Not necessarily a bad thing - sort of a cleansing the palate kind of thing. But to the extent that things may be poised to get better, there will certainly be an interest in an end to gloom-and-doom and the next President will benefit from that.

No I agree that he will be tested. What baffled me is that he was talking about them having low poll numbers and their supporters not agreeing with their response.

I've been thoroughly enjoying ol' Joe's Gaffe-a-Day, but that one had me puzzled as well.

I think it's pretty much a no-brainer that the bad guys will test an Obama presidency early on to see what it's made of. I actually think it will be another attack on our soil to test our response (and a big one at that). I just don't know why Joe decided this would be a good thing to point out politically.

I think you're right. I think that folks on "my side" of the aisle need to remember all those times we complained about an unsupportive opposition when they feel the urge to be - well - an unsupportive opposition. Truth is, the Democrats, if they paid attention to what happened with the GOP are going to be thinking long term. And you can't sustain a majority long term if you're simply the party of the peacenicks.

I heard this earlier. Get ready folks, if Obama is elected we will be threatened and/or attacked. Obama has no clue how to deal with Al Quida much less Russia or North Korea. If Obama is elected we will be seen as sitting ducks and they'll be after us. They know he's weak and has no experience, I have to admit that I am surprised the Joe Biden would make these comments so close to the election. Maybe he's loosing confidence in the Messiah.

I agree, although I'd prefer it if he held off on the "girdding of loins" honesty until after they secured the Presidency. Biden's Biden...what are you gonna do?

I don't have a clue where you got that from Biden's comments? Biden's breaking the news to the more "Make love, not war" Democrats that the Obama Administration might have to kick *** and take names should we be attacked. I would think that would be something that a Republican concerned with a potential President Obama's resolve might appreciate.

Actually, I find it sort of refreshing to hear a politician actually say something that is truthful if unpopular. He was simply saying something that a lot of people think.

Was it a good thing for his ticket, probably not, people too often don't want to hear the truth.

But that's the problem we have now. They all tend to say what they think we want to hear, we really know better but want to believe it, we refuse to vote for a politician who is honest and tells us the truth, and then we are surprised and angry when things change after an election.

Go for it, provided that you also say that a potential Obama Administration is willing to make tough, but necessary, bi-partisan choices militarily that might not coincide with some in his own party's wishes.

No doubt about it, if we're all being honest here, whoever's elected president is in for a test...
