DH & I went out for the rare dinner and movie last night to celebrate Valentine's Day. We took DH's car...a PT Cruiser that we purchased in October after his vehicle was totaled by a Suburban. When DH left for work this morning, he noticed that someone had keyed his car. Not just an accidental scratch, but keyed all up the drivers side...down to the metal. This car is DH's first new vehicle and is his "dream" car. He's not upset that we have to get it fixed, but is just dismayed that someone would do something like this.

What is the matter with some people? I just don't understand...

I don't get it either.

I would be MAD! Sorry, but I have no pity for someone who would do that for no reason. There's no chance it was done by someone who knows him, is there? This is why I have no identifiers on my car. We do get our fair share of nut-jobs at work.

we have a kid who does stuff like that im my neighborhood, his mom always say "my boy would never do anything like that"

What kind and color of PT do you have? We just got ours in June. We got a PT GT 5 speed turbo. It is black and just so neat. I never liked the PT's until DH convinced me to test drive one; I was so impressed how comfortable it was inside. It is so much bigger than it looks and the turbo is a lot of fun to drive! I finally said good bye to my mini van that I was driving for 12 years and now the kids think I am a cool mom driving a PT!!!!!

I hope the scratch gets fixed and you are back to having fun with your new car!!!!!!

Some people do mean things out of pure jealousy, and the PT Cruiser is such a visible fun vehicle I think that's why some of our local ones have been vandalized. :(

I'm sorry yours got noticed by someone not-so-nice.

AZKathy, you got the turbo huh? Very cool...our next one will probably be the turbo! zoom zoom zoom!!!
Love the Cruisers....they really are a great car! Ours is red but we may go with something else next time. LOL

There are jealous sickos out around. So sad that they get their jollies by doing damage.

When I had just gotten my car, brand new, I took it to the local grocery store. When I returned to it someone had rammed a shopping cart into the side of it. It was obvious, big white scratches on a red car. I wanted to cry but there really was nothing I could do after the fact to get back at whoever did it. As they say, I feel your pain.

I didn't know my SO's nephew lived in your neighborhood.:p

I'm sorry your dh's car got keyed, luvmy2sams.:(

DocRafiki...I doubt it was done by someone who knows us. DH doesn't have a mean bone in his body, and I'm sure he'd know if someone was irritated with him. He's quite sensitive to that. There are a lot of hoodlums that hang around the movie theater at night (or so we've been told) so I'm sure it was done just for the fun of it. Go figure!

AZKathy...It's a silver Limited Edition PT Cruiser. DH has loved these cars since the beginning, but I didn't like them AT ALL until he convinced me to test drive one with him. I was surprised at how much room they have inside, as well. I bet yours is a blast to drive around! My only problem now is that I'm jealous of the fact that he gets to drive a vehicle with leather interior and a moonroof around town while I'm stuck with the mom-type SUV with cookie crumbs all over the backseat!

We've got an appointment with the insurance adjuster on Tuesday morning, so we'll definitely be getting it fixed. It just irks me that we have to deal with stuff like this. So is life, unfortunately.

Thanks for the positive thoughts, guys! Just had to get this off my chest!

Leather and moon roof can't be beat! Love the silver color! Ours had this bright red/orange flames on it. I just am not a flame person, so we did have the dealership remove the decals when we bought it. I want decals, but something less "flamey!!!" I think I would like some purple or turquoise scrolling or something. I do love the PT! I am so glad DH convinced me to look at the PT!

Hope the insurance stuff/repainting goes smoothly. That is such a pain!!!!

Unfortunately, "keying" cars is becoming VERY common.. It happened to my SIL not once - but twice! They were living in the city in an apartment at the time and the only available parking was on the street..

It gets worse though.. After the second keying incident their car insurance company cancelled them.. :(

Sorry about the car - hope the damage isn't too extensive.. I think those PT Cruisers are neat!;)

Sorry that this happened to you. It also happened to us while we were at WDW 2 years ago. We were parked in the lot at Disney's West Side to go see a movie. Not parked too close to people on either side and sure enough someone 'keyed' it right to the metal along the passenger side from the back door to the trunk. Sure put a damper on the last couple of days of our vacation. Very frustrating. I just don't get it.

Sorry about your car. We had a brand new car finger nail polished! The damage was worth over $2000 and was only on the front/rear end of the car. We were new to the area so we didn't know anyone yet and had no enemies! ;) The new cars had the finger nail polish on them while the old cars had glue on them. They later caught the boys and were going to press charges. Their parents let them out past curfew (8, 10, 11) and had no insurance. Our insurance company was going after the parents for their costs. It is a shame isn't it? It seems while these kids were young they certainly were not too young to know to only glue the older cars while making sure to damage the new cars.

I am sorry for what happened to your hubby's car some people can really be buttheads!! I had bought as a single girl a 1981 Corvette with mirrored T-tops and red leather interior I loved that car!! My sister and I went out one day for lunch I had the tops off on the car and never thought to put them on it was broad daylight parked in front off the restaurant!! Well we came out she went to get in and said "WHAT IS THAT????" Well someone peed on the passenger seat!!!! Long story short it turned out to be a jealous guy that I only dated 3 times!!

People are sure mean spirited. Once I had DH's new car at our local Wal-Mart. Temporary tags so no ?? that it is new. As is my habit, I always park a good distance from the store under a light pole so I can get my exercise. When I left the car, there were no other cars around for at least a dozen or more spots. When I returned to the car, a shopping cart was broadsided into the driver door of the car. I do not know why people do stuff like that. Amazingly, the cart hit the strip on the side of the door and there was no damage. Phew! I would have hated to have to show DH the damage.

On our street in Jersey City, NJ, playing "destroy the street-parked BMW" is a neighborhood game. Our car has been keyed up and down both sides, tires slashed numerous times (sometimes you go outside and see all the cars parked on the street with flat tires), and once someone even stole the panel covering from our side view mirror. One day, so help me, if I ever catch someone in the act I think I'll lose control. I'll probably end up typing the rest of my DIS posts from jail.

The fact that the car is damaged is not so frustrating as knowing that whoever did it got away with it. There is just no justice, and THAT is infuriating.

Ditto! Someone whacked my car in DTD and cracked the door panel. Now, I know it's a crowded area and all and parking isn't great, but! No note, nothing. THEY did it, so THEIR insurance should pay for it, but they never will. :(
