Well, maybe not everybody will be as offended at this trend as I am, but from this moment on I will not be buying any more DVDs.

And that is saying something as I own over 125 already.

About 6 months ago I started noticing that the "disc menu" button wasn't working on a lot of new DVDs. Now what that means is that you couldn't go directly to the start of the movie; you had to fast forward or search until you came to that screen, or watch the coming attractions.

Well, that drove me nuts!

But now I am ready to go "postal". I just bought Shrek 2 yesterday and went to play it last night. Here is what made me decide that I won't be buying any more DVDs.

You CAN NOT skip to the movie at all. You must wait for all the pre movies stuff to play. There is a 5 minute vignette on a new movie called "Madagascar", with Ben Stiller that you must watch.......... EACH AND EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO WATCH THE MOVIE!!!!!

As those of you with kids know, kids can watch the same movie over and over and over. Imagine having to wait for that all the time.

I'm out. No more DVDs for me.

Oh boy! That would drive me nuts too! Well, I still have my VCR & since Video Tapes are so cheap to buy now, I have no problems in buying VHS's for my kids! (I'll probably still buy DVD's for me & DH though!)

I noticed that too... you can't skip past the pre-junk. Once is really enough :( Even on a VCR you can FF through it.

Video tapes seem more expensive to me now and you don't get all the cool extras...

When DVDs first came on the market this was common. Everybody hated it, so they stopped doing it. Let's hope we can send the message again.

I haven't bought any DVD's lately, but that would drive me insane as well.

I also just bought the Shrek 2 DVD and was irritated by this too. I was able to use Fast Forward, though. Not the preferred method, obviously, but better than sitting through all the "Coming Attractions".

I'm guessing here, of course, but I bet the reason so many more DVDs are forcing one to watch the previews is that the prices are going down. No doubt the studios feel justified making us waste our time watching these in return for saving a buck or two. I don't agree since I'm also sure they are making a very nice profit of the DVD sales even at a lower price.

My FF did not work that way. Also, prices in my area are going up, definitely not down. Shrek 2 was 18.99. Remember when you used to see huge releases at $15.99 or $16.99?

How long will it be before the put real commercials on the disc that you MUST WATCH before seeing the movie?

That really irked me too last night. I was able to fast forward through the Madagascar thing, and it stopped itself when it came to the movie. I was not happy with it though!

I wish I had read this a couple days ago. I had my poor husband going crazy trying to fix our DVD player for me. I didn't know if the remote was broken or the player itself...but something must be broken because I couldn't get to the movie without watching all the promos.

My husband fiddled with that thing for almost an hour. Then he said he had no "beeping" idea what was wrong with it. Just put the movie on, go potty, make the popcorn, get a glass of water, get your blanket & pillow, (not necessarily in that order) and then sit down to watch the movie. :p Guess that's what we'll have to do from now on.

Depends on where you buy it, we paid $15 and change at Walmart :(

I really hate the forced advertising! Isn't it bad enough that we have to sit through 1/2 hour of previews in the theater?

You are right that does irk me, and I too have been noticing it more and more lately...............

That is when you go to the potty and make popcorn. ;)

Just bought Shrek2 and was able to scan through them though not able to skip them. As stated previously it was better than having to watch all of them but still annoying that the menu doesn't just pop up.

We just watched Shrek 2. We clicked on 'options' and then 'play movie'. It went straight to the movie.

If we can't hit the menu button, we do FF, but it does drive me crazy. DH just breathes heavy.

I paid 15.99 for it at Best Buy on the 5th.
