Why there is no DVC at Disneyland

I just returned from 4 nice nights at the Paradise Pier Hotel @ Disneyland. I have never been to Anaheim before and had wondered why there was no DVC resort there. Now I know. Disney has done a good job of improving and beautifying the grounds in and around Walt's original park, but it is hemmed in on everyside with unattractive urban sprawl. The grounds around the hotels are tiny and the sounds of traffic at night reminded me that I was in a busy urban area. That relaxing resort feeling was missing IMHO. The grand Californian was spectacular- but again on a tiny amount of land for the size of the building. Also, there is quite a smog problem there. We loved PP and were glad we went, but I wouldn't want to call it "Home".

It would never be "home", but I'd love to see DVC in Disneyland!

You need to take a look at the history of Disney and Disneyland. WDW would never have been so large in geographical scope had urban sprawl not invaded the original Disneyland / Anaheim area and concept.

With the cost of land in So. Cal, there is no way Disney could put this type of a resort there.

However, a nice DVC resort "could" work in the Disneyland area. But we'd have to listen to the cars at night.

DVC bought land in Newport Beach CA for a timeshare but sold it to Marriott. Marriott built one of the nicest timeshares in the world with Ocean views and only about half an hour from Disney. We stayed last Easter and thought that DVC missed the boat here. It was a natural - we traded there to go to Disney and found alot more to do in gorgeous sunny southern CA! We love DVC but love our Marriott timehares as much!! Marriott is building at Disneyland Paris.....Paris - here we come! DVC seemed a natural to me for these sites, but they declined to build..

I dimly recall from somewhere that DVC couldn't work in California because of the laws governing limited-term timesheres here (seems they aren't allowed).... It's not much of an excuse, but I'm sure they'd love to get some of the extra revenue if they could.

Also, as a history aside, the urban sprawl in Anaheim grew up *after* Walt built Disneyland & is part of the reason that he bought so much land in Florida - to keep it from happening again.
