It's the law in Florida, non package, room only reservations can only require the first night deposit.

Packages looser rules and So Disney requires minimum $200 and full payment 45 days out.

You are also able to put a room only discount on a package - you're just getting a discount on the room.

If you have a package, a room only discount comes out and you want to switch, you'll need to cancel your package and book a room only. You'll receive the $200 depos back on your card and you'll be required to make a new one night room stay deposit on the room only reservation.

No way to skirt around that policy. Sorry.

thanks that is exactly what I was wondering...I hate them having my money for months when we might end up cancelling but I dont want to wait in case the rooms sell out fast next week. Am looking at POR and AOA and I have already heard that POR standard rooms are gone :(

With the discount, one night room only at AoA or POR may end up being less than the $200, so you might be giving them less as a deposit. :thumbsup2

I don't think the standards are gone, I think they just aren't being offered with the discounts.

If you do a package and put down the $200 and do need to cancel, you can push your dates out rather than cancelling so you don't get penalties.

If you do a room only and pay the 1 nights room stay you can cancel up until 5 days before you arrive for a full refund. A night room stay at POR or a standard at AoA will be less than the $200 deposit for a pkg typically.

ETA: BAH... ninja'd!!!

thanks everyone...forgot to mention we will be staying at AOA suites so it will be more than 200....good to know that I would have to cancel though and rebook as then I am taking chances that the suites are gone....

So how would I figure out what the deposit will be...take one night-15% and then what is the tax in florida??

For Pop Century and AoA the tax rate is 12.5% (state sales and county resort tax rates combined)

Most other Disney resorts fall into a different county and the tax rate for most others is 13%
