The OP wasn't stating it from more people driving period, but more people driving to the parks, vs using the buses. So I was taking it that these people had already had a car, not that they opted to bring a car when they didn't already have one. That wasn't part of the original discussion.

I guess I don't understand. The gondolas temperature levels can't possibly be hotter than the parks themselves. If your heat tolerance can handle the park for hours surely your heat tolerance level can handle the gondola for a few minutes, no? If you aren't at the parks when it's above 75, then the temps in the gondolas aren't going to be all that high.

I hope the gondola temps are no higher than the outdoor temps, but that is something we just don't know right now. When I am there in hot weather, I ride the air conditioned bus to the park, enter the park, then find somewhere to sit in A/C for 30-45 minutes to cool down, then head to my first attraction. Then I walk to another cool spot near the next attraction, cool off for 30-45 minutes, visit the next attraction, and repeat from there. I don't do any attractions where the queue is in the sun when it's hot. And still, sometimes I have to go indoors for a couple hours mid-afternoon to bring my core temperature back down. I don't get a lot done when it's hot, but that's why I enjoy my December and January trips so much.

I really hope the passive cooling works - but I just don't have a lot of faith in it during July and August. I will be paying close attention to the first reports, that's for sure!

IMHO it is highly unlikely that there will be smoking in the Gondola. Possibly for sure, but highly unlikely

A Monorail car can hold up to 40 people or so. The Gondola can hold 8. There is a good chance that you may be in a Gondola with just your immediate family. It's far more likely that someone may smoke in a Gondola over a monorail.

My guess (like a previous poster) is that they will combine resorts for bussing purposes. If there is a need perhaps for rope drop and park closing they will have dedicated buses to each resort but share through the day. If truly a large portion of guests at the 4 resorts are riding the gondolas Disney isn’t going to run only half/mostly empty buses all day long to those 4 resorts. They like to combine resorts as much as possible. Then they can still say the buses come approx every 20 minutes they just have 2-4 stops depending on how they combine them. When the friendship boats were down to DHS they had 5 stops if you didn’t/couldn’t walk to your Crescent Lake resort (Swan, Dolphin, Yacht, Beach, and Boardwalk). It was an incredibly long and frustrating wait. I wouldn’t be surprised if those who choose not to take the gondolas have a similar fate. Time will tell...

I'm wondering if the average traveler books based on Disney Transport at their hotel. I'm guessing the good majority of guests book based on price, and then you whittle down the various reasons to book, where maybe 10-20% book based on location and transport?

I'm just guessing in the first few years or new transport novelty period that at some stations the queue/lines will be overwhelming, and discourage many people wanting to try to Skyliner.

Every resort with alternate transportation (i.e., non-bus) has reduced bus service to any destination served by that alternate. It's pretty credible to think that bus service will be reduced, combined or even eliminated.

You can't get to Epcot by bus from GF, for instance, even though the monorail to Epcot from GF is a pain.

Yes... no way is Disney, who is cutting cost everywhere they can, going to keep buses running at current schedule. Maybe not day 1, but they will taper/cut regular bus service to those resorts eventually.

The only potential Skyliner resort we'd stay at would be the Riviera since we are DVC....and we have a car so we drive. No glass box dangling in the sky for us.

BUT, for convenience I will surely risk my life and use the gondola. If it means getting to Epcot/HS quicker, you bet im taking it. I'll just close my eyes and cry the whole time.

If I wasn’t at risk for cracking my teeth, I would bring something to bite on to ride the gondola. I’ll be staying at the Dolphin or BWV and taking the boats or walking instead.

Actually, it's not. There are members on this board and other boards who have inside connections to Disney who have stated this. Disney's plan is to do away with bus service to Epcot and DHS once the Skyliner is going to those resorts. However, as with anything Disney does, that is subject to change. But the original plan is to completely replace the buses to DHS and Epcot with the Skyliner. You can choose to believe what you want, but I trust the people that have shared this information. They're right most of the time.

That seems plausible when using the Seven Seas Lagoon Resorts and their "Monorail only(Highway in the Sky)" transport to Epcot as precedent.

I also am not a fan of ferris wheels and heights, but I will try this as well for convenience and for "the experience". For those that aren't interested in riding the gondola, I believe that there will be good alternatives, hoping!
