Why so many points on the weekend?

I agree the point cost for a weekend is more than I am usually willing to pay. On the other hand, if the cost for a weekend is reduced, the cost for weekdays will increase so the points per week will remain constant (assuming points aren’t redistributed across seasons)

I would rather see the premium put on the weekends rather than increasing the cost for weekdays.

I am glad you are happy, but if someone were renting points, (the easiest way for me to equate points and dollars) that's $190 per night for a studio. As much as I love DVC, I think it's somewhat of a stretch to suggest that the studios are worth nearly $200 per night.

I think the point structure should be in the best interest of the owners and not renters. If the price for weekends were reduced I could see those who rent their points snatching up the weekends like crazy.

maybe that is the draw in for dvc cheap points during sun. thru - thurs. and then the silence, the points are .... for the weekends but by then most people are getting ready to go home.... hmmm
and that is how dvc makes up for the low points during the week.
plus they are busy on the weekends, they would make more money renting the rooms on cash.

We do different things each time.
This trip (3 days away-yipee), we start at the Pop Century--our DS's have been begging us to stay there, then 7 days at the BCV, and finish at ASMovies. We got cheap flights, but had to extend our stay, and there was no availability at the BCV. Imagine, being forced to spend more time in WDW--the horror!

Sometimes we move, sometimes we stay. I would rather stay, so I will probably be adding on again:teeth:

weathernlu--what part of NO? we may be neighbors!

No, that's not the poll. It was specifically asking the DVC members whether they moved out on weekends to avoid high points. IIRC, it had pretty high participation and it had roughly 70-80% saying they did not move. I can't find it at the moment, but it appears a new poll has been posted anyway. I do realize all surveys on this board are non-scientific and self-selected, but it does give a general sense of this group at least.

I stay on points during the weekends. I purchased the points so I wouldn't have hotel bills. I don't look at the # of points for each day--I look at a week at a time. I don't like switching if I don't have to. Works for me! :)

Joined at the start of DVC, have stayed on a weekend for each and every stay, including Christmas/New Year's.

It amazed me when I first learned that members do this. I want to unpack and not see the suitcases until we're heading for home.

Everyone is different. If you don't mind moving, that's fine, but to me it's just a big hassle that I'd rather not deal with.

We bought into DVC to save from having to pay cash for hotel rooms every time we went to Disney. To pay for a hotel room on the weekend to avoid paying points would contradict the whole purpose we bought in.

Re: I know it's inefficient....
but we stays weekends.

It's all a matter of perspective.

This is inefficient in terms of points usage if your priority is maximizing your number of nights. Changing resorts/rooms in the middle of a vacation can be an inefficient use of one's time.

Same with the use of DVC points outside of a DVC resort. Most people around here calculate the $ 'cost' of this based on $10+/point. My real costs are somewhere around $6.75-$7.00/pt, and while I _could_ rent out points if I wanted to do so, to me it's just not worth the time and responsibility. I have too little of the former, and way too many of the latter as it is. But that's just us. :cool2:

Unless your purpose were to save money in which case staying on points from Sun-Fri is the most efficient use. We usually just go for 5 days since we are only 4 hours away so it really doesn't matter to us. If we go down for a weekend or want to stay longer, we actually enjoy trying out other options and this is the perfect opportunity/excuse to do so.

We wouldn't move if we were staying over 2 weekends, but often we get there on a Fri, stay 2-3 nights in a hotel, then move to DVC Sun or Mon and check out the next Fri.

I wouldn't move in the middle of my trip, just to have to move back again.

If the weekend fell in the middle of my trip(ie-I had already been in my DVC unit for 4 or 5 days) I'd pay cash for the weekend.

No way!! I figured I was the only one from Da Parish on this board. This is too cool. We might have to start a St. Bernard DVC group!! :)
