Why only 11 months?

This is just a curiosity question...forgive me if it's been asked before.

For non-DVC members (cash guests), rooms can be booked up to 499 days in advance. So, in theory, that sounds like they could book a DVC villa room well before a DVC member could. And even if a cash guest waits until packages are released during the summer, they could book a package online for the following summer - again at more than 11 months out.

Do we know why the DVC window doesn't open till 11 months (for their home resort).

Thanks, in advance, for the replies.

Typically, though, they cannot.

Every DVC room is represented by points. Therefore, every point owner gets access to units no sooner than 11 months. For the points that Disney owns - and then rents as cash - a cash user cannot access this inventory before 11 months.

Villas are 11 months, no matter who is booking with what payment. Even Riviera, which opened to cash (against developer inventory) before any points were declared to the association, was not available before 11 months before opening.

11 months is what Disney chose as the rule. It applies to cash villas as well.

All I can say is thank goodness it isn't more.

Regarding those booking cash it's a different inventory so it's not that they are taking anything away from point bookings no matter when they book.

And why 11 months? It's just the time that was selected to allow booking. I'm sure that way back when they decided on 11 months they had some basis. I also guess that Disney hotels did not allow booking as far out as they do now - people would have laughed about it.
