Welcome back! I'm glad you had such a great trip and loved the wrap up on Williamsburg. I would absolutely love to go there someday. I imagine if you choose to have a house there, you expect tourists!
Well, when we house swap or you come to visit me, we should go there! I am looking forward to going back again next summer, even if its just another quick trip.
I always wonder about the people who have inherited the houses. I guess they take the good with the bad.
Gorgeous gorgeous pictures as always!
Thank you!
Williamsburg looks absolutely beautiful....love the Colonial area and would imagine it would be very interesting and fun to tour. Also interesting are the houses against the property....I wasn't aware of that.
I am looking forward to going back and actually doing the house tours instead of just a quick walk through. That will be the first thing on my list the next time I go back! It is pretty cool that people can own house right in the historic district. I guess its good because the home owners are responsible for their own up keep. No swimming pools in that neighborhood.
Wow....walking back through time

What a perspective. Really makes you think, doesn't it?
Tracy
I did enjoy that. I guess they will have to wait until they do the next remodel before they add something about iphones!
Oh no on having to wait for HHI but great pics of Williamsburg! I love the hidden MEK pics!
Sorry.

Yes - one more update with VA Beach pictures, but hopefully I will segway right into Hilton Head.

Glad you like the hidden MEK pictures!
The movie looks interesting. I love the walk back in time facts and the photos of the horse drawn carriage.
They really so their best to perserve the historical integrity of the colonial district. I can't believe that film was first made in 1957. And the back in time facts are really insightful. I would have loved to explore by horse drawn carriage. Maybe next time!
I love pictures of Williamsburg! A lot of those private residences are places that are lodging for tourists. They are owned by Colonial Williamsburg & we stayed in one on Frances St & the Market Square Tavern on DOG Street. The one on Frances St. had a really nice semi formal garden in the back yard. We had the entire house to ourselves.
I did not know that. How do you find out about staying in a private residence. I would love to do something like that for a night or two. I've done a lot of internet searching on Williamsburg, but I never came across anything about staying in the private residences. I was probably looking in the wrong place.
It's nice staying on DOG St, except you are woken at 6:30am by the beer trucks & the sounds of the Palace Green being mowed!
Oh NO! I guess they have to get those things taken care of early before the guests arrive. Sort of like Disney world!
:
BTW, the building that you didn't know was the Capitol.
I knew you would know. Thanks!
Anxiously awaiting HH. I'm getting ideas for next year!
All I can say right now is it was FABULOUS! I can't imagine anyone not liking it!
Your Williamsburg pictures are beautiful

I haven't been there since I was a kid and now I'm convinced I need to go back!
Thanks! Yes - you need to head east for a visit and when I am done posting about my HHI trip you will want to go there too. Road trip!!!!! Woot!
I can't wait to visit Colonial Williamsburg someday!!
I hope you get a chance to visit. I guess if you ever drive to Florida (which you probably never will since you are the SWA master) you could always do a side trip. It is a cool place with a ton to do.
I really need to get my family down to Williamsburg sometime. I haven't been there since I was a toddler, and I don't really remember it. My parents inform me that they actually had to remove me from the tours because I would point to the candles in every room and shout, "Fire! Fire! Fire!"

That's pretty funny. Blocked that memory out, didn't you?

I do think Williamsburg is a great family trip and it really is an easy drive from where we live. If you leave first thing in the morning you can easily get there by lunch or early afternoon. It's also fun to go the "slow" route like I did so the kids can stop on the bay bridge tunnel and go out on the pier (which we did not do this trip).
Your pictures are terrific. I thought the "going back in time" markers were really interesting and very cool. Looks like a really special place.
thanks!
I know I said this before, but the Visitor Center and all the exhibits there and at the surrounding places were all top notch. It is a really cool place and I can't wait to go back. I loved those markers.
