WOW...what an update, MEK. The pictures are terrific, as always. And so much to see and do. You gals sure got an awful lot accomplished. Your lunch looks yummy; and I love all the street entertainment you saw.

Wow! Savannah is beautiful! My SIL was just there recently. Now I know what I'm going to do when we go to HHI!!! (someday...)
The cathedral is just beautiful!!! Gorgeous!
The lunch looked really good! I like Fried Green Tomatoes - I can get them up here in the North, but usually only at the State Fair!!

WOW you girls hit a lot of sights!!

We did. We actually spent more time walking then on the trolley. Everything was fairly close and I think if you like to walk you probably don't need the trolley.

I have always wanted to try Fried Green Tomatoes, especially because I LOVE the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. The soups look awesome, although being from Maryland, the crab cake doesn't look so Maryland style to me! Looks like a GREAT lunch spot though! :thumbsup2

I have tried them before, but its been a long time! They are really good. I'm not sure what to compare them to, but they have a nice, solid texture. I like that.

Yeah - that crab cake does not look like some of the really goods one I have had in Md., that's for sure. When you live near the Chesapeake Bay its kind-off hard to find a better crab cake elsewhere.

Wow! Your pictures of Savannah are amazing! it looks beautiful! I especially love the cathedral!!!

It is very different from any city I have ever been in. It's definitely got an easy, breezy feel. Laid back, relaxed, and full of life.

The cathedral was gorgeous. Just stunning! So rich in detail.

Have a fabulous Thanksgiving!

You too! Thanks!

Another wonderful day - this time in Savannah.
Booze in the streets - :thumbsup2 unless it is Bourbon street. That place was so narrow that you could not help bumping into "things" and such.

It was a wonderful day. When I go back to HHI I will definitely go back to Savannah. And now I know how to walk to the Riverfront, so I really don't even need the trolley. ;)

The "to go" cups IS a big plus!

I guess my closet claustrophobia was getting to me, because I felt the Mardi Gras would be nuts.

I have never been to New Orleans, but would certainly love to visit it. I, too, think Mardi Gras would be absolutely insane. I am certain I am much to "old" for that. :rotfl:

I hear Savannah has a "rep" for St Patricks Day.

I completely forgot about that, but you're right. The St Patties day parade in Savannah is second only to the one in NYC. I bet its a fun one and the weather is probably much better than in NYC!

I guess we where there for about 7 hours and we really got a good flavor for the city and its sights. Still, I am sure we only scratched the surface so I would really like to go back, especially after I am done reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

Wow! Savannah is beautiful! My SIL was just there recently. Now I know what I'm going to do when we go to HHI!!! (someday...)

You should definitely take a side trip to Savannah. It's so close. Just remember to shop around for the best trolley fair, like we didint. :rolleyes1 Also, notice, we mostly walked. We didn't even really need the trolley. Everything is pretty close.

The cathedral is just beautiful!!! Gorgeous!

The cathedral was stunning. All the recent renovations were so well down and so authentic. WOW. I love old churches.

The lunch looked really good! I like Fried Green Tomatoes - I can get them up here in the North, but usually only at the State Fair!!

Those fried green tomatoes were delish. When I saw those on the menu, I knew I had to have them!

Wow, Savannah really is gorgeous and it looks like so much fun! (And I'm not just saying that because of the take-out alcohol! :rotfl:)

Your tour looks like it was really interesting (if not a bit rules-y ), you guys saw so much so quickly!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!! :goodvibes

It was a great day! Even without the alcohol "to go". Seriously, I really enjoyed Savannah and will definitely return when Denny and I go back to HHI. There's more I want to see.

Your tour looks like it was really interesting (if not a bit rules-y ), you guys saw so much so quickly!

I did enjoy the tour even though I was afraid of getting kicked out for misconduct. The house was gorgeous. It would have been great to have a picture or two, but oh well.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!! :goodvibes

Same to you Sara! Have a great day!

Same to you Jackie! Knowing you, you are cooking up a storm and have your house decorated perfectly.

 Surprisingly, I have not. Actually I am trying really hard to be cheerful today, but Charles said it is coming off as borderline hysterical. Since the alternative is staying in bed all day, I am going to try and just get through everything.

Great pictures of Savannah -- you really captured the charm of it. :goodvibes I was cracking up over your snooty tour guide -- she would have made me a nervous wreck -- and you trying to capture some light orbs at the Brewing Company.

Chelsea and I recently read a book set in Savannah called The Magnolia League that talked about that haint blue. Chelsea now wants to paint her room in that color. She is easily influenced by things she sees and reads -- don't know where she could get that from. :confused3:laughing:

I am sure this must be a hard day for you. Take it one moment at a time. Holidays are weird that way. So many expectations. So many memories. So much flooding in all at once. I am sure you are no where near hysterical, and even if you have some hysteria, its OK!

Thanks! It really is a charming city. It's so different from Charleston, yet so attractive and likable in its own unique way.

Oh - that tour guide - I really felt like we were the riff- raff and she was begrudging allowing us to tour. It was odd. :confused3

I wanted an Orb so bad. I didn't expect a bottle to come flying off the shelf, just some soft glowing light would have been nice. But I guess the spirits thought I was too anxious! :lmao:

I have NO idea where she could have gotten that from! :rotfl2:

Thanks, Mary Ellen. I am just trying to take it one minute at a time.

Oh, I meant to say something about those sweetgrass baskets -- I bet they were sky-high since they were in the gift shop. The best place to buy them is right off Hwy. 17 on the way to Boone Hall at those roadside stands -- well, they used to have stands like that -- I don't know if they do anymore or not.

I wanted an Orb so bad. I didn't expect a bottle to come flying off the shelf, just some soft glowing light would have been nice. But I guess the spirits thought I was too anxious! :lmao:

Maybe you just didn't to drink some more and then the orbs would have manifested themselves. :lmao:

I have NO idea where she could have gotten that from! :rotfl2:

:lmao: She likes to pretend we have nothing in common these days, but we all know differently. ;)

:hug::hug: I know this time of year is going to be hard for you. Try and take the time you need and do what you can do not what you feel you have to do.:hug:

Happy Thanksgiving!

Love all the old architecture, and the little details are so fun! The organ in the cathedral is so gorgeous! Glad L & P were able to convince you to keep going a little longer, you wouldn't have wanted to miss that!

Shame on that tour guide! I have also encountered tour guides who like to wield the wand of power, and it is not a pleasant experience. All we want to do is admire the surroundings, just let us admire!!!

I'm glad you decided to continue with the Savannah as love hearing all about it and seeing all the lovely pics. Though I'm also looking forward to the plans for your December trip.

Wow the cathedral looks beautiful :goodvibes

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family - hope you have a great day and enjoy the long weekend.

Mmmm, a fried green tomato BLT sounds really good!

You guys definitely hit a lot of great sights. I think it's funny that the tour guide at the museum took her job so seriously. :lmao: I mean, I get it, but it's not that serious.

That picture of the Jimmy John's guy with the snake cracks me up. So, you're on break and you just have to bring your snake along? I'm so confused.

Thanks, Mary Ellen. I am just trying to take it one minute at a time.

I hope it ended up being a good day for you Jackie! :thumbsup2

Well. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but every place I saw the baskets they were pretty expensive. Very beautiful, but not cheap.

Maybe you just didn't to drink some more and then the orbs would have manifested themselves. :lmao:

That's one way to connect with the supernatural! :rotfl:

;) Kids!

Wonderful sentiment Pat! :thumbsup2

Happy Thanksgiving!

thanks! Same to you and your family! Are you getting totally psyched for your trip in 2 weeks??? :cool1:

The architecture was so cool and that cathedral was gorgeous. I was told that the organ gets played once a weekend. I bet it sounds wonderful. I am glad they convinced me that I could wait another hour to eat. It was worth it.

Shame on that tour guide! I have also encountered tour guides who like to wield the wand of power, and it is not a pleasant experience. All we want to do is admire the surroundings, just let us admire!!!

That's exactly what it is - a wand of power. You are paying good money to see the surroundings, but you feel like an uninvited guest.

I'm glad you decided to continue with the Savannah as love hearing all about it and seeing all the lovely pics. Though I'm also looking forward to the plans for your December trip.

I'm glad I decided to wrap up Savannah, too. Next are the December plans, then Resort day 2 and Charleston. I'd love to get the HHI TR done before we leave for Disney. We'll see.

Wow the cathedral looks beautiful :goodvibes

It really was and I am so grateful that they open it to the public. The parishioners acting as hosts that day just seemed so full of pride.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family - hope you have a great day and enjoy the long weekend.

Thank you! You had a busy day bringing dinner up to my parent's house, but it was very enjoyable as well.

I have a 5 day weekend, so I feel quite spoiled.

Mmmm, a fried green tomato BLT sounds really good!

It was yummy. I wish the tomato slices had been a bit thicker, but it was still quite good. Something different, that's for sure.

You guys definitely hit a lot of great sights. I think it's funny that the tour guide at the museum took her job so seriously. :lmao: I mean, I get it, but it's not that serious.

Maybe that's they way they are trained. I have no idea, but it wasn't super relaxing, that's for sure. I liked the tour guides better in Charleston. They were much more relaxed even with the same rules.

That picture of the Jimmy John's guy with the snake cracks me up. So, you're on break and you just have to bring your snake along? I'm so confused.

OMG - Can you imagine walking down there if you had a snack phobia. That snack could have scared the bejesus out of someone. It was BIG!!!! :scared1::eek:

Wow you guys got a lot done in one day! :cool1: Savannah is beautiful, I had no idea! Brandon and I keep saying we want to drive down to Disney one year, and if we do, we will definitely have to stop in Savannah! :thumbsup2 It reminds me a lot of Boston, with a Southern twist to it!

Oh, and is your beer Pete's Wicked Ale? Brandon used to drink that a lot!

Thanks, Pat and Mary Ellen. I didn't mean to hijack Mary Ellen's TR with my tales of woe.

Stop right there - No Hijack! No tale of woes!

If you drive to Disney you must stop in either Charleston or Savannah. You will love both of them and yet they are so different. After our uneventful drive to HHI I am actually considering driving to Florida this summer. Notice I said: considering. Clearly if flights drop in price I will be flying, but if they stay high - you never know.

Oh, and is your beer Pete's Wicked Ale? Brandon used to drink that a lot!

Nope, that's not it. I have a cell phone pic of it. Let me check!

Wow - I was way off on the name. It's actually called Wild Wacky Wit. I guess they make it there. Love the name. No wonder I picked it.

Nothing like a party in your mouth! :rotfl:

If you can ever work it into one of your East coast vacations, do it! It's very cool. Someone told me to read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and I am now. It's really a good book to read before Savannah.

Love that book!

Wonderful update, sorry I'm late to read it! Am still fighting the crud. I can't stand it when you get a guide like that, really sucks the joy out of the experience. I can't believe how much you packed in, what a fun, eclectic day!

Love that book!

I love it too. I read it on the way to my parent's yesterday and would love to curl up with it right now, but I've got some Christmas decorating to do. I have the movie in my Netflix queue for when I am done reading it.

I hope you feel better soon.

That's exactly what that guide did - she just sucked the fun right out of it. But the rest of the day more than made up for it. Plus, we did a ton of walking (like a Disney park trip), so that helped with all the extra calories. What a fun place that would be for a girl's weekend.

I read that book too...ages ago but I still recognized the statue when you posted the picture! My brain really does retain some things....:rotfl2: I remember the movie being good too....with John Cusack I believe. I have so many movies in my queue..waiting for a cold winter day.

So maybe your tour guide was a relative of our pita trek mate in Africa last May? :rotfl: Yeesh....I couldn't have dealt with all of her yapping and rules but after having already paid I guess there is not much you can do.

LOVE fried green tomatoes! What a fun lunch! I would have gotten everything the same...and your beer looks yummy!! Love wheaty beers :rolleyes1

Gas here right now is around $3.59....although I have to have premium for my car so that is around the $3.85 mark....I just pump and don't pay attention to the price  The worst was a few years ago when premium was over $5....I don't think I ever let it get below a half tank so I could mentally prepare myself for paying
