Why no timing on the 5K?

My DH ran the Royal Family 5k on Saturday and was disappointed that it wasn't chip timed. Any ideas on teh reasoning for not timing? Are all of the Disney 5k's not timed? DS did the mile kids race and that was chip timed, so it seemed odd that the 5k wasn't.

And while I'm at it, why hasn't Disney gone to the B-tag?

This race is a fun runs, not a competitve race, which is why they don't time it. There are no prizes. The only timed 5Ks offerred at Disney are the EPSN 5K and the Expedition Everest 5K.

Not sure why they haven't gone to B-tag, but I personally prefer the D-tag, so I am not complaining. :)

Why do you prefer the d tag? Is it more reliable?

Hm...OK, but then why do they time the kids' 1 miler? :confused3 Just seems kind of funny to me.

And I'm also curious why you prefer the D-tag?

The kid's one miler is actually a competitive race and not a fun run. It was something new added last year.

I wear my bib on my spi belt and have a fear of the b-tag getting bent when I am say going in and out of a port-a-potty or something like that. I find it easier to protect a d-tag than protect a b-tag.

Oh ok. Yeah that makes sense. I wear my bibs on the lower part of my shirts and they sometimes get crinkled up. The shoe tags never get touched. Although one race my shoe tag rolled around and I worried that it wouldn't work properly because they show how you're supposed to have that certain side face up. But it worked fine.

I always take advantage of that small hole in the D-tag to run my shoe lace through it. Makes it extra secure and prevents it from rolling around like that.

Also, from what I've been told about the B-tag (they seem to be going with them more and more in NYRR races and I HATE it...at least make it smaller if you're going to go to them), they will not work properly if hanging from a spibelt (or similar). Apparently it needs to be solidly against your body for it to properly register.

I'm thinking I may try putting it on my tights the next race I have to use one, because I learned in my UGLY race on Saturday I need to have a spibelt on for my inhaler if nothing else, and you also cannot have anything OVER the stupid B-tag.

And trust me...I want NOTHING drawing attention to my chest, so putting it up there is just a no-go.

Really not a B-tag fan as it is now here.

another vote against the b-tag here....especially for longer distances where it's a certainty that I will be shedding layers. I don't see what is wrong with the d-tag they work fine and they are out of your way on your shoe. But then again, I was saying the same thing when we did the switch from champion chip to d-tag a few years ago...so what do I know :lmao:

The few times I have used it I have hung it from my spibelt and it registered without a problem except for the Historic Half in Fredericksburg, VA last year. That wasn't the fault of the b-tag though. Instead of using the usual tyvec bibs they used one made of a biodegradable material filled with wildflower seeds. Good in theory except it was a miserably hot day and we all sweated through our bibs and they were pulling off the pins. I ended up with my pinned straight through the middle to my shirt and it spun around like a pin wheel as I ran. :confused3 They had actually given us all d-tags as back up in case there was a problem with the b-tags. Thank goodness!

Thanks! Good to know. I think we're using D-tags in the race on Sunday, so I'll probably just suck it up and pin it somewhere for the NYC Half as I don't want to risk having my time not recorded for a HM. Unless there's someone there NOT NYRR who can verify I can hang it from my belt.
