Why no SSR love?

This thread just shows some folks need to read their contracts better.

who here hasn't read their contract?

Yes it was; but I also made some assumptions, I assumed that any future resorts would be on par with the current dvc resorts (current when i bought). That way if I ,for what ever reason wanted to book a room at 200 days rather then 210 days at MY HOME resort, and it was full ,I could book a stay at a resort that was of equal quality. I fear that in 2008 and beyond that anyone who books 6 mths out will only have the option of SSR, regardless of their desires or the quality or lack there of of the resort.

B3- (sigh!)
There you go again! Open mouth-insert foot! :lmao: Have you not been in enough trouble already! :rotfl2: What are we going to do with you!???? :rotfl:

Funny...this could have been me a month ago. Thats why I had originally started the thread. I could not understand why there was this SSR bashing, dislike, etc being written.

Yep - I'm at this point where I'm really confused about my opinion of this board. On one hand there is a lot of great information to be found, but on the other these debates are raging and the negative opinions of SSR are just venomous and set a really poor tone for the rest of the board. I understand that people dislike the resort, and it's completely acceptable, but this constant comdemnation of anyone who actually enjoys their time there. . . just amazes me.

If Disney agreed to plan future resorts based on what current members deem to be "acceptable" accomodations on par with the ones already in existence, there would never be another DVC resort. There will ALWAYS be certain types of resorts that either appeal or don't appeal to certain people - there is no way Disney could get a unanimous "vote" from all current members. Someone will always think that any new resort falls short simply because it doesn't fit in with their PERSONAL ideals. I mean come on - Contemporary is just a rumor but there are people who are already expecting to not like it.

I've only seen SSR from the outside, haven't toured it yet. . . but if that's the worst place I could end up? I can't see where I'd be losing! It's not like they're sticking you in the Days Inn over by Old Town.

very nice well thought out post.

I guess some of the concern is that DVC for what ever reason built a resort that is so much diff then the others and made that resort 40% of the WDW/dvc rooms. To me that seems to be foolish. People bought on "style" of resort (dvc owners prior to ssr), and now have watched as 40% of the rooms are now a much diff style.

odd marketing at best.......

I've been following this thread and I'd just like to say that I love SSR.

That being said I'd also like to say that boatboatboat and Daitcher (dave) have become my favorite posters. I've never laughed out loud reading a thread before! Keep on stirring guys :stir: - I'm getting a drink :drinking1 and staying tuned!

ps - I have actually thought about cramming the entire extended family into one of the two story rooms at SSR...

My point EXACTLY!!!!! I feel that some here have not had the experience of a truly BAD hotel/motel!!

For the record I am normally not this obnoxious and overbearing. Dave has been e-mailing me things to say. I suspect he is trying to divert attention away from him self and on to me.

I sense a banning....

I have been following this thread and the others like it that pertain to SSR, and I have come to the following conclusion. SSR is perfect for WDW, and here's why. As we all know, when it comes to our trips to WDW, we all have family and friends who just don't understand why we keep going back, they just don't get it. Thus the conclusion, when it comes to Disney and WDW, you either get it or you don't, there is never an in between, right :confused3
So now WDW has it's own DVC resort that fits this scenario, you either like SSR or you don't, there seems to be no middle ground. Agree or disagree, just reread alot of the responses to SSR threads, strong feelings both ways, hardly anyone on the fence. This is of course JMO. :rolleyes1

I would, HOWEVER, like a pool side drink. Alcoholic, please. That is luxury to me. But sorry to offend, I'd like it without the hussle and bustle of a thousand screaming toddlers at my feet...so I'm not sure that will happen anytime soon. I LOVE my kids, and I look forward to grandchildren someday, but my kids are teenagers now and I don't need to be sitting at SAB or the coaster pool at BWV's just to have a drink in my hand and be at a pool at the same time.

SSR does have a great pool bar serving alcoholic drinks. They also have a self serve fountain for refilling your mugs at the pool. Food is just a few steps away at Artist Palette.

Here, here!!! For those of us that have "been around" awhile....this board gets VERY monotonous with new people always asking the same questions, and people giving very "serious" answers. I have disengaged from this board many times because...quite frankly...things get BORING around here. B3 and Daitcher have certainly been the most entertaining posters on this thread in a LONG time!!!

Let me give a toast to them right now...."To B3 and Daitcher....the two men who have kept me from getting ANYTHING worthwhile done the entire weekend!! Here's to the men that have "single-handedly" assured that my house will be messy, and packing for my WDW trip (in less than 48 hrs) will be mediocre at best!!!" :drinking1

Like my dh said...this has been more fun than a bar room brawl!!!!

Here's to my two favorite troublemakers!!!! :love2: Richyams would be SOOO proud of you!!!

I was just browsing thru the resort page here at disboards. I noticed that at SSR the listed a pool bar called "On The Rock". Did that not happen or did they close it?

"On the Rocks" pool bar is definitely open. So is the large arcade adjacent to the pool area. Food is available at Artist's Palette, which is not very far from the pool at all. Having actually stayed at SSR, I can assure you that it has a great pool area.

conflict sells.

show me a board where everyone gets along, and I'll show you a board with few posters who really "care".

people say they just want for everyone to be nice, but the truth of the matter is, we don't.

people seldom slow down while in their car to look at a tree in bloom, but spread a few bodies on the pavment, and people will burn their brakes up to get a look.

look at todays TV craze, reality TV.

get a nerd, a homosexual, a red neck,a ssr owner and a minority and throw them on a island and watch what happens.

politicaly correct sucks........

I've been reading these posts and the truth is that SSR guest are stuck swimming in a small mud puddle that comes from the run off of BWV. It does feel good though after you spend the night in an unairconditioned trailer. There is talk of putting a full service popeyes chicken just a stones throw from the outhouse. That'll be just dandy. Sure hope it has lots of seats though. I feel real so self concious in my tank top and cutoffs when we hitch hike over to the on site resorts.. There is bus service but it stops in Newark on the way to the parks

I don't think that is a nice answer, considering the $$$ B3 (and all of us) put into this. I think a lot of B3's points are very valid ones.

Hmmm....now I am thinking. What we really need is a "sticky" where people can post how far out (inside the 7 month window) they booked, and what resorts were available when they did. It could be a "running" thread...like the ROFR one where people can see whether the "buy where you want to stay" thread is a good one, or a load of "bunk".

What do you guys think? Would you post your info? I would be happy to "tabulate" the thread, but someone would have to do it for me when I go "to the world" ;) .

Please, let me know what you think of this idea.

Beca

Well, I just booked a 1BR at BCV for this July using my SSR points! :woohoo: We are also spending two weeks at OKW before we go to BCV, but that was booked along time ago using my 11 month window (because that's our favorite resort).

You do realize I own SSR right? I defy anyone on these boards to show me a post where I have sterotyped or called a SSR owner names. IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED. Maybe my real motive here is to keep someone from making the same mistake I made. I wish there was a boatboatboat on here when I was buying in.

Boat is in fact correct. There is a biding war as we speak for our services. Beca will proof read and edit all of our posts to make us sound smart. :thumbsup2
DAVE

ya ya Dave... did I say that you called a SSR owner a name? Nope, I just said that you poo-pooed on new owners parades ;)
As far keeping people from making a mistakes I agree that information and knowledge are great but at some point we ALL get the point and your unhappiness over your purchase.

I always forget to ask this... have you talked about this with your guide?

yikes, i went out for a few hours for a mammogram and a zillion pages have been added to this thread... :smokin:

ok, beca. i didn't mean in any way that your new poll would not be a good thing. i'm sure it would be interesting to everyone. BUT with that said, you know as well as i do that by the end of page 1, there will be some slamming of SSR as there has been on EVERY poll in this forum. and then you will see the ever present "when did this turn into a ssr bashing thread :confused3 ". so as admirable as it is that you are looking to do that poll, it will of course get hijacked and it will turn into the whole off site, by tampa, redneck infested, no valet service, let's go to earl's stuff it always is. so in that regard, i don't look forward to another poll. bc "some people" are not mature enough to treat it as the informative thread it could be. yes this board is supposed to be fun and light, but come on now - some of it just needs a rest. :smooth: and believe me, i was not "angry" during my last post. i, too, can use "sarcasm" "humor" "wit" like our little friends. trust me - i have a much more meaningful life outside of the boards to let it take me over. it's not worth it. but like numerous other people said after my last post - it is just old and annoying! i know you said you wouldn't care if people insulted BCV. but what if it was all the time, in every thread, raining on your parade, etc. you would be annoyed. it's sad that even the lurkers see it. and i've seen some people get blasted that were new and excited about something to do with ssr, it's ridiculous. maybe they don't have as tough a skin as others of us do. so feel free to do the poll, i would love to see it if it remained true to your intent, but i know better. D will say "i talked to 10 people in the hot tub at ssr and they hate it" or B3 will talk about the rednecks in spandex. old old old. :rolleyes2 anyway, enjoy and have a magical day lol and there is no anger here. i'm too excited today that LOST is back that not even D and his little friend could ruin this mood  (that's me in my banana suit having a fun day)

No one can ruin LOST night!

Whatever happened to that rumor that they were changing the old Discovery Island island (redundant much? LOL) into some LOST themed island? I know it's highly highly unlikely but fun to think about, huh? LOL!

Maybe that could be the next DVC theme. There would be three sections. . . tents on the beach, caves, and hatches. :rotfl2:
