Why no SSR love?

We own at BWV, and have never stayed there. (going for 1st time this June).

We bought at BWV because we thought we would always be going there.

Well once we learned we couldn't use strorm along bay unless we stayed at the BCV, we always stayed there.

Anyhow...... about 5 years ago we stayed at HH, one night as a stop over point.

Fell in love with the place and have stayed there 8 times since. Best resort ever, FOR US.

Best location on the island. The evenings in shelter cove are wonderful. Walking along the boardwalk area, fireworks, Shannon Tanner, live bands, what a setting....

Want the ocean=no problem, 5 min tops, by a shuttle bus that is a push of a button away.

We will be buying enough pts at HH (via resale) to spend 2 mths a year there once we are retired.

I love the flexibility of DVC, and do not think I should be made to feel guilty for staying at the various DVC resorts. I think the BCV/BWV should be more concerned about their fellow owners that use home court advantage to gobble up the ressies during peak time, just to turn around and list them on ebay.

I wondered when someone would bring this up! I notice the same people listing on ebay all the time for BC & BW. Some of them already have reservations made!

I bought SSR sight unseen over the phone. I would have probably bought what ever resort they were offering at the time. I wish, like others that I had bought sooner, but I didn't know what DVC was all about! I knew they had a timeshare, but completely avoided the kiosks, for fear of being accosted by the usual timeshare salespeople that I have come by in the past. BTW, my guide never mentioned to me about staying at other DVC resorts. I asked him about that, because of what I had read on these wonderful boards. Part of the appeal of DVC is all of the resorts they offer and I plan on trying them all out! I can assure you that my guide is not selling SSR saying "And you can book BCV & BWV at 7 months!"
I can also tell you that I don't want to stay at only one resort for the next 48 years.

I am also wondering if when people bought into the other resorts, were they told that Disney was not building anymore resorts? Did they honestly think that Disney was not going to be adding anymore? If you follow Disney at all, their trend just keeps building bigger and bigger and I would imagine this will continue. I think there is room for us all, maybe not always our first choice!

I just watched Modern Marvels the other night, because I missed it when it was on before. It was on the making of WDW. I just love those shows on Disney. The show stated, which I have heard before, that when Walt bought that property in FL to build WDW, he intended it to never be finished. I believe there is still quite a bit of Disney property to be developed and "That my friends, is why I will keep coming back!" More! More! More!

Ok, for one thing my spandex shorts don't have pockets! And I wasn't wearing them that day anyway - they were denim! Get your eyes checked And I don't weigh 315! I am a little under 312 - maybe I was bloated that day due to my "female time" - so my PMS prob also made me yell at the MGR. It was a bad day for us. My last 2 bottom teeth fell out while I was trying to open a beer bottle, I got a call that day that my single wide trailer burned that day bc I left socks in the oven to dry since my dryer broke and my common law hubby was too drunk to fix it. So my 4 illegitimate grandkids carried it out onto the front lawn with the other appliances that don't work. I'm going to plant some flowers in the dryer like I put in our broken sink, toilet, and flat tires off our broken down minivan. When it rains it pours.... Good thing I have lots of SSR points to use for BWV. I think my family of 13 will have to stay there (squeezed into a 1 BR) now that our trailer burned. Hope to see you there!

Bizarre that he's so fanatical since HH and BCV owners could technically make the same argument about him!! I own at BCV and I don't care who stays there, I've booked during my 11 month window and everyone else can fight it out at 7 months. May the earliest man/woman win!!!

No, I got that....but, you made no mention of the fact that he has been a BWV owner for FIVE years!!! Before I read that, I figured he was someone who had purchased resale recently.

My point is, it seems the newest DVC resort always faces scrutiny. It happened with VWL, it happened with BCV and now its happening with SSR. I sense a pattern here. It probably happened with BWV too.

Good observations. Yes, BWV definitely got some criticism (I was reading these boards heavily then, since I was considering DVC), but it was almost all focused on villa sizes and the hotel-like setup, not the location or theming of the resort. And many -- perhaps most -- OKW owners at the time grudingly admitted they looked forward to the option of a new, attractive, high quality DVC property in a strategically located area (excellent access to two favored parks).

Years later, the dynamic with SSR is quite different. To the existing base of DVC owners, SSR doesn't offer any meaningful new added value (location - blah -- theming - somewhat blah -- architecture - yawn). And that's why it's now viewed by many as a burdensome threat, a big warehouse resort that will simply increase the number of owners competing for the choice properties.

Albeit, there is some consolation here: SSR sales are not going well.

A little while back, my sis & her family shared a trip to OKW with us - sis hadn't been to WDW for years. I extoled the virtues of DVC to get them interested. (They're well travelled and can afford pretty much any timeshare they want.) They LOVED OKW, they thought BWV and BCV were outstanding! Wow, we were on a roll!

Then they saw SSR. My sis stood there looking at it and said, "Why on earth would I want to come to WDW and stay in a big, vanilla apartment complex? THIS is what they're going to offer from now on?" SSR brought any talk of joining to a screeching halt. They didn't trust what else DVC might do in the future.

This is when I realized DVC might have shot themselves in the foot with SSR. I'm pretty sure my sis wasn't the only discriminating prospective buyer who felt this way.
