Why no monorail resort?

Why not?

Is there a reason there isn't a DVC resort on the monorail line?

Do you think you would be more likely to stay at a monorail DVC resort than you would at the new SSR?

It looks like SSR will be lovely but would you have been happier with a new DVC resort on the monorail line?

Do you think a resort on the monorail line would sell faster than you think SSR will?

Let's say SSR is the last DVC resort. For the last DVC resort-would you have favored something different? If yes, what?

Looking forward to reading your opinions.

With the possible new ending date of 2054, do you think it is more likely additional DVC resorts will be built?

I would like to see a DVC at the Poly. The theming there is very well done and it is on the monorail. I would definately add on there. I think SSR will probably be beautiful, but I just don't see myself staying there. I just can't see giving up my convenient homes at BWV and BCV.

I know that the resorts are part of the Disney collection, but with the Poly having such a tremendous fan following (I've actually never stayed), why wouldn't Disney take advantage of that and add a few rooms there for DVC?

Anyone heard of an actual reason against this happening?

I think the problem with building a monorail DVC resort is the lack of a place to build. There are always rumors that another complete resort will be built on the lake but problems with the land and/or enviromental problems are sometimes cited as why it hasn't happened.

Just as with the Epcot DVC's....it would be right in people's faces and I'm sure it would sell quickly. I'll hold out hope that Disney will find a way but it's a tricky problem. Maybe if they do ever build the "next" resort it will include a DVC component.

My guess is the Contemporary would be the best choice. Disney could solve two problems with one DVC project. If the Contemporary (which isn't very contemporary) occupancy level begins to fall, the waterfront wings could be replaced with a DVC resort. A cat walk could be placed on the monorail level providing direct access to the DVC resort. IMO, It would be an awesome resort.

The resort could have a roof top observation deck (DVC members only) and a great swimming pool. A nice marina, I would purchase an add-on ASAP.

I think they should add on to the EPCOT monorail route and make it go all the way to the BCV.

Cheaper than a new resort

I think the Mono resorts are very successful as cash resorts. During the last few years of a bad economy & 9/11, WDW shut down CBR,PO and delayed the opening of PC. The deluxe resorts didn't seem to be affected as bad. Any additions that they make would probably be for cash, not DVC. The only exception IMO would be the wing units at the CR. I've read rumors about them being razed and DVC units being built. Maybe it would be successful, but to me,staying at the CR is about being in the main building with an MK view, not being out in an add-on wing or two. As for a new resort: There is a nice section of land between CR and TnTC that could easily handle another resort. If they built on this prime property it would definitily be an up-scale resort. If it were to be DVC I think the points chart would be more then I'm will to spend. It boils down to where Disney thinks it can generate the most cash flow. If SSR sells well, then I imagine DVD will decide the next resort will also sell well on a less then prime piece of land- Eagle Pines. If SSR flops and it's determined location was the main reason, then maybe the next resort will be at a Mono resort. The next couple yearsfor DVC are going to be very interesting to watch.

I would think the astronomical cost of dues would make it prohibitively expensive. I also think the lack of obvious building space makes it difficult.

I think lack of space is a main issue, but I also think the selling success of the monorail resorts as delux level resorts gives them no real reason to do it. I for one don't mind. MK is our least visited location any more, so we don't mind being "out in the boonies" as some of you seem to think OKW is. We love it!

I would think though that with the DVC 'family' push for sales nowadays that they would consider a monorail resort a huge benefit to those folks. I'm sure that the cost of maintenance fees would be a deterant to some folks from calling it 'home', but sure wouldn't keep me back from spendin' my points there.

I wouldn't think that Disney would build an actual full resort on the monorail route, but maybe just add a 'wing' or something onto one of the existing resorts. For instance, the Poly DVC units (if there were any) would be booked continously, I would imagine.

Wasn't there a rumor of a new monorail resort with a venician (sp?) theme before the big tourism drop off? It wasn't DVC, but it was a new monorail resort. Perhaps it could have a DVC wing?

Personally, I hope things stop at SSR. I think it's getting saturated.

Yes, the rumor of the Venetian resort has been around for quite awhile, at least prior to the building the CSR. Over on the Rumors Board I've heard people talk about the problems with the land being unsuitable/problematic for building this resort.

What could be more problematic then building MK in the middle of a Florida swamp ??

I always through there was an opportunity for a monorail resort on the long monarail stretch from Epcot to the transportation station. But I haven't riden that stretch in a while. Seems like maybe one stop along the way wouldn't be too bad.

MK was not built in a swamp. They built the bottom level of the park (now an underground corridor system) on solid, dry ground. The second floor level was built above, and this is now seen as Main Street USA. To build up the surrounding landscape, they moved soil from an adjacent area. This adjacent area (hole) was then flooded by the outlet river from Bay Lake, a natural body of water. The resulting, flooded, manmade lake is now known as Seven Seas Lagoon. :)

Many different CMs have claimed over the years that Disney has tried to built on the sandy soil between CR and the TTC. It is supposedly too prone to very rapid sinking and has been ruled out as possible development land.

I don't think Disney will build a monorail DVC resort on Seven Seas Lagoon because they expect high hotel occupancy to continue there. I've wondered whether they will eventually decide to add a monorail station anywhere along the Epcot monorail line and put in a resort on that line.

If it happens - which I doubt - I would bet it being part of the Contemporary

I think long ago the Polyn was the first choice - I mean the symbol for DVC has mountains on an Island - sounds like Hawaii to me - certain not the Florida Keys - but I think WDW or the Polyn say no way --- so the Polyn will probably never be part of DVC - neither would the Grand Floridian - so that leaves the Contemporary - and that will depend upon the economy - when SofG opens up and the Contemporary has trouble finding guest again - instead of fixing it up (which I had heard that WDW was planning) - WDW might let the DVC have part of it - but as I say I think this depends upon the economy and I don't think the economy will bad for the next 5 years (time to built SS).

I have voted for a DVC resort on the Epcot monrail - that is a big stretch - and WDW does not have any hotels on this part - of course there might be a reason why....

as long as the monrail is so expensive - what were the charges $100,000 per square foot or something - even building a monrail to the BC would be expensive - much cheaper to build another DVC resort - besides WDW is getting it money out of the DVC resort - it would not out of a monrail - even if there was room to build one (and there is not room from the front of Epcot to the BC) look sometime. you have got too many building in the way.

No I think if WDW ever builds another monrail it will be to connect the AK with the Studios. (they can build that one along the road). I don't think they will even try to build one to connect the Studios with Epcot - but who knows what the future will be!!!!

I would expect to see light rail transportation expansion before any monorail expansion. Much cheaper, still fun.

Add too many stops to the monorail it'll get like the buses. Too many stops, too much time.

I like the idea of building at the Contemporary... at least there you can walk to MK if that's where you're going.
