I'm so sorry to hear this.

My boyfriend's father was recently diagnosed with cancer. It's been really hard. I have been staying strong for bf, but it isn't always easy. If you can, just stay strong in front of her, but when you are alone, just break down all you need to.

AMEN to that statement! I think I took the news of my Mom's cancer a lot worse than my Mom did. I would cry at the drop of a hat but I always managed to leave the room. It got to a point where I would get in my car (with my 7 month old baby) & drive to a nearby parking lot & just sit there & cry & cry & cry! Once I'd pull myself back together, I'd go home & I'd feel better & more able to cope for a little while.

I lost my father to esophageal cancer in December. He was 59 and I'm 29. I agree with most of the previous posters to spend lots of time together. It was very difficult for me to be around my dad when he was so sick. I really regret not having just sat there with him for a little more time every night.

My father lived 9 months from diagnosis which I now know is actually quite a long time for this type of cancer. My thought and prayers are with you and your family. Just know you WILL get through it.

Thank you for the uplighting thoughts and wonderful Private Messages, everyone.

Unfortunately, I think that he is a lot sicker than they are letting on. I know that they kept the news from me because of my grandmother's cancer and death. They won't tell me when they found out. I guess it doesn't matter, really. I am sure they just wanted to deal with it privately for a time.

Like I told my teaching partner today, I feel like I am in a snowglobe that someone has just shaken vigorously. On top of this I am looking to change school districts and we are buying our first home. I only hope that I am put carefully back down and not dropped or shattered.
