I am interested to know why Mary Poppins is included in princess meals. Does anyone else think she doesn't fit the theme? It's weird to me, but maybe I'm missing something.

No, she's not a princess but I have a 2 year old son that is in love with "my Poppins!"

I never really thought about it, but you're right! She's not a princess, but she is included in the "princess" character meals.

But boy, am I glad she is!

When my DS was younger (and not allergic to the princesses like he is now), we ate at CRT.

DS was dressed as Buzz, and got lots of attention and kisses from the princesses, but he looooved Mary Poppins! She spend tons of time with him and even sat at our table for a while and carried on a long conversation with him about her movie. She told him that she was the only girl there without a prince, and asked him if he would be her prince, then gave him a big kiss on the cheek which he wore proudly for the rest of the day. The last thing she told him was that she would be looking for "her prince" at the parade that afternoon.

Well, fast forward to the parade. OF COURSE we ended up on the wrong side of the street ;) and she didn't see him. DS was crushed because he had really come to believe that MP would think that he didn't want to be her prince if she didn't see him at the parade! So when the float with Cinderella came by, she saw him and called out his name and blew him a kiss. He promptly called out "Tell Mary Poppins that I was here!" She never missed a beat and called out "I will!" and he was satisfied with that.

BUT when we got back to our room that night, there was a note from Mary Poppins saying that she was sorry to have missed seeing him in the parade, but Cinderella told her that he was there, and she was glad to know he was still her prince. With the note was a beautiful Mary Poppins pin! Gotta love that Disney Magic! :wizard: (I'd like to think it was pixie dust, but I'm pretty sure they got our resort from the PS system, and since they had our full names, that's how they got the room number.)

So needless to say, I'll always be a fan of Mary!

How very very cool!:wizard:

I think because little girls (and big girls ;) ) tend to adore her and aside from the UK pavillion at Epcot, it's an easy place for her to meet and greet her adoring little fans.

I met her at UK last Dec. and I admit I was all giggly and giddy like a little kid! ;)

OMG!! Ariel Wanna Be - OMG! OMG! OMG!!

I would pay to have that happen to me! What a wonderful expierence. I too, will always love Mary.

Well, since Mary is British, you never know what honors the Queen has bestowed upon her!! ;)

Just think...she's the only "princess" to win an Oscar! :goodvibes :goodvibes

The princess meals also sometimes have Alice and Mulan who also are not Princesses.

It doesn't bother me at all. I think when I booked them this year, the CM said Cinderella and her lady friends. And when I booked PSB they said Ariel and Cinderella were added but that there are also other "special ladies" that may make appearances.

So, the breakfasts can have other special ladies besides Princesses which is great!

Ariel wanna be, thank you so much for sharing that special story! It was GREAT!

Actually, how many princesses ARE true princesses? If I recall correctly, Belle, Snow White and even Cinderella herself married into the title....

I'm thrilled to have "Mary Pops" (as my kids call her) in the royal circle!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Mary Poppins is a legacy of Walt Disney. Back in the 1960s, before any of most of these modern 'princesses' - Belle, Mulan, Jasmine, etc. etc. - were even thought of, Mary Poppins graced the skies of Disneyland nightly on her "flight" from the Matterhorn to the castle (or was it the other way around).

One of my most vivid memories as a child is one night when Mary's cable between the two places stuck - she hung there from her umbrella handle for hours. I didn't realize it was a statue, not really Mary Poppins - couldn't get to sleep that night :)

Go Mary Poppins!

Great question! Hmmm, which ones are true princesses?

Snow White is a princess, as her father was a king (I guess somewhere in Germany). Her birth mom died when she was young, then he married the Wicked Queen. Last trip, I asked the Wicked Queen, "Whatever happened to Snow White's father?" The Queen, without missing a beat, said "We can't discuss that in front of the children!" :teeth:

Cinderella's birth father and mother were probably not poor, but certainly not royalty. They are from France.

Aurora is the daughter of king Stephan and his queen, I guess somewhere in France, so definately a princess!

Belle's dad was an inventor and definately not wealthy. She married the prince Beast to be a princess. Also French.

Jasmine is definately a princess, as her father is the sultan from the Middle East area.

Ariel is definately a princess, as King Triton is the king of the sea!

As for Mary Poppins, what do we know about her family? Maybe her father and mother were king and queen of somewhere! :teeth:

What an INCREDIBLY sweet story!!! I know you will treasure that forever :) princess:

Mulan may be a princess. Her parents certainly live in a complex of buildings that has all the earmarks of a 15th or 16th century palace in a principality. Her father may be minor nobility - and Chinese titles would be quite different. (In Contential Europe in the Middle Ages, and to some extent until WWI, there were plenty of Princesses, as those countries were organized as Principalities. China had a similar feudal structure.)

Who knows what Mary Poppins is? I'm not sure Mary and Bert are of our world, and they seem to be able to be whatever is required of them at the moment, street artist, chiminy street, lady and gentleman on holiday in a chalk drawing, or nanny. If circumstance require Mary to be a princess, I'm sure Mary's magic would be adequate to the task.

If you think Mary Poppins is weird, I once had Aladdin at CRT breakfast! Who made HIM a princess? ;)

My guess is that they use Mary because there aren't really all that many princesses. You have your Snow White, Cindy, Belle, Aurora, and Jasmine (and Ariel if you put her in as human, but since kids see her with her tail in the parade, that might be too confusing!), so they need some other characters to fill the slots. I guess they use Mary because she's pretty well known, and can wear a pretty dress ;)

Mary is included in the princess' because she's "Practically Perfect in Every Way"!
