Why isnt this story getting any nationwide attention/court tv coverage???

Put me on the list agreeing with BobO, that has happened before, and Alex... something is definitely wrong since this is the first I have heard of this case........Why haven't we heard about it?? I am horrified....I only hope that the survivor is getting the help that she needs so desperately to get through this trial and her life...How tragic..

Doesn't this show just how laxed the media is. For example, you only hear see limited amount of airtime on a story about a child related crime. They will talk about it for a week if that, then its move on to the next thing. On the other hand the JON BENET story is still going strong nationwide and the newspapers. I think something is seriuosly wrong.

i think its incredulous that such a heinous, violent crime was not reported. this was also the first time i heard of it.

its just not what the media wants us to see, i guess. nuts on them.

I don't agree, it just shows a lack of consistence of the media.

How many of you have heard of the Yogurt Shop murders in Austin? It happened more than 10 years ago and they are just now finishing the trials. The victims were 4 girls killed and some raped in a robbery that netted $14. Here is a website with more information Yogurt shop trial information

This may have gotten some national coverage because of the time lapse between the murder and trials and solving the crime but I don't think I've seen anything.

Many times crimes are only reported in the region they happen in. If anything they are given a quick note but then you hear nothing more.

and yet Jannette FAR less heinous crimes do make the national news. You think it is right that the media can manipulate society like that?

No, I think the media could be more responsible in several ways. I just don't think the reason is to be more PC and the crime in the first post although horrible isn't anymore of a hate crime than others that happen everywhere else.

edited to add: often I've read of some truly horrible things people post about crimes in their region but I don't see anything about them in my local paper. I've even posted some local stories and usually people in other areas haven't heard of them. The JonBenet example is a good one, do we believe that is the only unsolved murder of a child. Yet it continues to be in the news, a news program featured it this week.

but would you be surprised if political correctness entered into their thinking?

I think ratings and advertising dollars are their primary concerns. If they think a story will sell papers or gain viewers they are all over it. The story in question was solved quickly and didn't have an angle they could exploit.

Should they have called it a hate crime and tried to go with that story? I think many would have been offended with that angle, there is nothing to indicate race had anything to do with the crime itself.

I think horrible crimes happen every day that don't get national TV coverage.

I agree with janette, for a story to "take off" nationally it needs to have an angle that can be milked for ratings.

There are plenty of ways THAT story could be milked for ratings though.. heck I wouldn't be suprised if someone made a movie about it!

I can honestly say "I hope that will never happen" I'm sure the victims relatives would not enjoy seeing something so horrible rehashed on tv.

ON the other hand, I do think the media will milk a story for all its worth, especially when the story is pertaining to someone in the public eye. For instance I have seen the Winona Ryder story TOOO MANY TIMES ALREADY (DID SHE OR DIDN'T SHE  ) I'm sure this was not the first time this store had a problem with shoplifters, but because it's Winona Ryder/actress, you hear about it all the time. I feel they have talked this story to death , and it is time to move on:rolleyes:

I also believe the media has developed a (rape, murder, child abductions ect... are the"NORM" so why keep harping on it when we can show the world the jucier seedier side of things attitude) It's all about THE RATINGS, and which NEws station aired what story first.

Danacara What wouldnt make a crime newsworthy when 5 people are forced to have sex with each other, kidnapped and tossed into a car, robbed and then shot in the head. Everything about this is newsworthy but the media is trying to cover it up by trying to be PC but wouldnt act in the same manner if the roles were reveresed regaring the races of the victims/suspects.

PrincessAriel-the dregs of society comment is meant towards the race hustlers i mentoned and not all black people in general. The ones i mentioned use race every chance they get to promote themselves with no care or concern towards any actual victim of racism(imho),they are what Walter Williams(noted columinst) calls poverty pimps!! The rodney king comment was in regards to his insincere comment"cant we all get along". And i wasnt aware kumbaya was a racial comment but just part of a irritiating song! And your questions werent taken at all as any type of attack.

This just shows that some stories wont get covered for pr reasons and is the media's attempt to censor news which they would have gotten away with years ago but with the internet its harder to make news they dont want to cover go away.

I love Fox news...too bad I did not see it on the news however, some people do not go to the web for news so therefore I feel it really should have been in the news. Bob O, Good thread on a very sad subject however. I have found the posts to be rather surprising in "why" it has not been on t.v., I think deep down that everyone (general) knows why...and that is a shame for every American regardless of race.

Snowwhitemom-I agree that this is is a horrible crime no matter what the race or nationalty of the victims involved. If the races of the victims/suspects were changed it would be just as horrible and should be condemned by all decent people.

snowwhitemom & Bob O have either of you heard of the crime I posted about in Austin? That is also a horrible crime but I really haven't seen anything on the national news. Why is this one different? Do we want the news folks to make sure and report on the most grisly crime they can find in the nation that day? I'd much rather see them find something good to report on instead.

I think deep down that everyone (general) knows why.
I think everyone can think for themselves, why try to read something into it when it's not there.

Does the media, in general, have a political agenda? Yes.

Does the media, in general, manipulate information to further their agenda? Yes.

Does the media, in general, misrepresent information to further their agenda? Yes.

Does the media, in general, ignore and/or neglect to disseminate information that would hinder their agenda? Yes.

Is this story an example of this? Absolutely!

This story is a perfect example of why there should NOT be hate crime legislation. As another poster said, aren't all murders of this nature HATEFUL? Why do we, as a society, feel the need to state the obvious? Why the need for additional punishment if the HATE stems from a specific POLITICALLY ACTIVE group of people?

Doesn't this create a division between the victims who are a part of these now "protected class" and those who are not? Can this really bring us together as people or further pull us apart?

Does the Hate Crime conviction help to heal the black or gay victims families any more than the murder conviction? If not, why have it? If so, why not offer this same helpful healing to the white victims families?

The media hyped up the Byrd and Sheppard murders and promoted Hate Crime legislation. To give this current case air time would expose the Hate Crime legislation to debate. It would expose it as the knee-jerk, media-manipulated junk it is. (IMO)

Not only would this expose the media itself to criticism for the manner in which they do business, but it would hurt the media's political agenda -- which, unfortunately, seems to be more important than the truth.

JMO...

Janette I do think the media should report the most grissly news and the one i reported on is about as bad as it gets, mutiple deaths/rape/robbery. I didnt see the post you reference as for something good they can make it part of the special interest BS that is always part of the newscast.
CKR I agree the whole idea of hate legislation is more PC and people should be found guilty of the crimes they have committed with out the thought police going after them. I dont care why a criminal commits a crime, if they are found guilty i want a harsh sentence. If a person kills a white/black person because they hate them that doesnt make the crime any worse if the criminal likes black/white people but kills them anyway in the commission of the crime.
