Why is Tuesday after Memorial Day so busy?

I asked this a month ago and no one knew.

On the popular crowd prediction sites, they all have Tuesday after Memorial Day being busier than the weekend and Memorial Day. Anyone know why? I know a lot of locals come out on holiday weekends, but Tuesday?

Even with SWW being Saturday and Sunday, Tuesday is still forcast to be busier. Then the rest of the week drops to 5 or less.

Going down on 5/28 to 6/5 and trying to make plans.

Don't know the answer sorry, but I will be there the same time.... I choose MK for Memorial day!! Hope I made a wise descision!!

We've visited WDW over Memorial Weekend for the past two years and will be there again this year. In our experience, the worst was over the weekend - especially if you went to DHS - and Memorial Day wasn't too bad. It also seemed that the crowds lightened up significantly after the weekend.

I've noticed the crowd calendars say the same thing as you've noted but I'm taking it with a grain of salt based on my past experience. One thing I should note is that we've had a car for the past couple years too - first staying at OKW and last year at POFQ. This year we'll be at ASMv and will have a car again. I think sometimes aggravation can start at the bus stop and then it builds from there. Having the car eliminates that as a possibility.

But overall, I think it's a good time to visit and that's why we are going that time again.

My guess is that many family start their summer vacations over Memorial Day weekend. Lots of southern schools will be out by then. People take vacation that week since its only 4 days instead of 5. We check in on May 26th and will be staying through mid June.

I am so glad to hear this. I was also wondering why they say Tuesday will be so busy. This is the first time we will be going over Memorial day. We usually go mid September and never deal with any kind of crowd. This year we get to go the week of Memorial weekend and Mid September!

We've been in WDW for the last two years around Memorial Day and found that the crowds weren't as bad as Touring Plans predicted. MK was a little crowded on Memorial Day, but if you plan well, you can be in and out of the park before the crowd gets too big. Like a PP said, as the week passed, it got less and less crowded. It's definitely one of our favorite times of year to go.

Have a GREAT trip!

Thanks everybody! :worship:

I couldn't think of a good reason Tuesday would be worse. I plan on enjoying myself no matter the crowds. We usually go mid-summer when everyday is a 10 or 11. The first week in June will be wonderful.

I'll be there at the same time!

I'm using touring plans and hoping for the best. We are planning to be in the parks at rope drop and get as much done as possible in the morning hours.

I think I'm more worried about the heat then the crowds!

Can't say about that day in particular, but this is the first time they have offered free dining over Memorial Day weekend.

We always go Sept and thew in late May (left on Memorial Day) last year and it's a completely different story crowd wise, but since you will be back so soon with shorter lines you can have a little more relaxed pace of touring. 2 trips in a few months is awesome. I'm so jealous.

This is not the first time for free dining over Memorial Day weekend, it was offered via pins last year, bouncebacks, and the visa kids stay plan and dine free deal.

But isn't it the first time for a GP offering?

Not everyone qualifies for the others. Heck, I don't even know what a PIN code looks like.

Last year the Tuesday had the same crazy high prediction on TP and was questioned here. It did not turn out to be nearly a close prediction.

And to add - here in the Atlanta area, most school calendars were extended because schools closed for an entire week due to snow in January. I know in my county, schools were supposed to be out on the Wednesday before Memorial Day weekend, now they will be out on that Friday. Family vacation plans were changed quite a bit with that one snow storm.

Any day after a holiday may be a little higher than usual as people do tend to add vacation days and extend those times off.

That's how it works in the FedZone, as well. You get 9 days off for the price of four days of leave (includes the weekends).
