Why is the Poly SO EXPENSIVE!?!

I'll never be able to afford the Poly, but when DVC goes in next year I was hoping to rent some points there. I'm beginning to think that everybody else in the world will have the same idea, and points will be impossible to come by.

I do think it will tough for the first year or two, AND points will be at a premium for both GFV and Poly.

The why is, of course, as others have said, that people are willing to pay it. For me, the why is, why? Don't get me wrong, the Poly holds a lot of good childhood memories and I love it there. With that said, it's still just a room, at a nice hotel. I go to Walt Disney World for the parks. For what the Poly costs me for a week, I can stay two weeks at another resort. Let's see; a week at the Poly, or two weeks in Walt Disney World at other very nice resorts? I'll take the extended stay thanks.

All that aside though, Disney room prices in general are what are going to start pushing our family to look elsewhere to spend our vacation dollars. When $3-$400 a night is becoming the norm even at "lower end deluxes" like AKL and WL, something is wrong. For that kind of money I can stay in 1-2 bedroom accommodations at many different vacation destinations around the country. Heck, for the price of a "value" resort at Disney, I can stay at a Hampton Inn, get two queen beds, a VERY large room, and a free hot breakfast!

We've started to rent points and rent a car for the less than the price of many deluxe hotels. I'm a little hesitant staying offsite until I know how the whole Fast pass plus system will affect Those offsite and when you are going during busy times, it could end up being a big deal.

Construction at a resort would make me less inclined to stay there. Maybe once they are done with DVC I will try the Poly. But, I can't see spending that much money per night to potentially look at construction walls, vehicles, etc.

How have you gotten 40% off. I'm trying to arrange a family reunion for next June and I never see that discount.

That's also a big difference. We definitely go to world for the resorts also. In fact, any vacation we go on the resort is equally as important.

So I'm the opposite, if it's a choice between a week at the beach club and 2 weeks at the all stars. BC wins every time. In fact if the only way I could go to disney is to stay at a value, I'd stay home. My theory is I'm not going on vacation to live worst than I do at home. Now we go when it's super hot outside so we spend a lot of time at our resort. That's another reason deluxes command the price.

No insider information needed-the answer is because people are willing to pay that price.

We gave up a fee years and trips ago.....after about 45+ deluxe stays, prices just got out of hand....We went moderate and POFQ holds up to what we want in a resort of lesser value....

Discounts became thin, almost to the point that an Annual Pass isn't worth it...seems they are giving bigger and more breaks to residents...nothing of value for seniors, returnees, Annual Pass holders.....

Still hate free dining...to us it ruined the quality and value of Disney dining..a lot of fluff but no value....

I totally don't get the prices or the demand for the Poly. I do love how it has such committed fans though :)

I think it's because people love it and it has a great location. I really want to stay there someday but at the prices Disney charges for Deluxe, I can pretty much guarantee it'll only be for a 2 night stay before I move to a moderate or value for the rest of my trip.

Look into renting points before you count a deluxe stay out!

I think it depends on how much you are at the resort. If you simply eat and sleep there then any resort would do. DS can't talk a full day in the parks, so we spend oodles of time in and out of the parks and our resort. Bigger rooms, nicer pools and more resort options matter to us.

I agree, I'd rather stay home then spend more than a night at a value resort.
